St Anns - magnifique cottage indépendant à Torquay

Thanks for your review. Yes the house is a period property, built in the earlier part of the 1900s, which we believe gives it it's charm. The house has had a lot of updating recently and our wonderful team are planning more little tweaks in the coming month. It's true the house is in a good location. It is only a 5 minute walk to the beach and seafront, with a charming parade of eateries and cafes.

I would respectfully suggest that this review is not entirely accurate. To start with our guest from Vancouver omits to mention the state that he left the cottage in, on departure. The guests left all their unbagged rubbish in the cottage, which included piles of boxes and wrapping and a great quantity of empty beer bottles. They had used the silk table runner from the dining room in the garden and it had been left there in the rain and soiled with bird droppings. They had left the outside windows sprayed with snow paint, so professional window cleaners had to be called in. There was a fault with the boiler, however, a plumber was called and the problem was rectified quickly. The boiler was intermittently losing pressure and needed to be reset. This was simple to do, and the plumber showed the guest how to do this again if required. The local management acted promptly and correctly by communicating with the guest immediately after the problem had been sorted. The guest was informed that the house would be warm in half an hour so there was no need for them to book into a B&B. We are currently replacing the boiler, so this problem will not re-occur. It is also true that I offered the guests compensation for their inconvenience, but they declined. Regarding the lighting in the dining room, there were spare bulbs in the cupboard. There is also a standard lamp in the room, which was unplugged on the guest’s departure. It was also possible for the guests to buy more bulbs, which I would have been happy to reimburse them for, if asked. We can’t make comment about dirty pans as they were all clean on departure. As owners, we were booked into the cottage following these guests and didn’t find the cutlery to be blunt. It was all perfectly adequate for use. We leave a welcome pack for each visit which includes dishwasher tabs, washing up liquid, dustbin bags, jiffy cloths, toilet roll and more. They are left under the sink. The parking – the drive is adequately wide enough for all normal size cars. The shower curtain is hung properly and falls just inside the bath. Obviously the space in the shower is limited to the width of the bath, which is normal size. Information re rubbish collections was included in the email with the voucher which confirmed the key details.

I was very surprised to read this complaint. St Anns Cottage is a lovely property in a great location, which is cared for and managed my our local caretakers to a very high standard. On the rare occasion when something does go wrong, our management team is very attentive to sort out any problems as quickly as possible and guests have often written to thanks us not only for the wonderful holiday, but also to praise our team. On this occasion our caretakers did receive one call from these guests at the beginning of the holiday about a minor issue. But when the offer was made to come and sort, the guests refused and said they would sort themselves. Nothing else was mention as per this review. I did investigate as this client states. But since the offer to visit was declined while the clients were in situ, it is next to impossible to verify the claims. Infact, on a later spot visit to the cottage to check that our standards are being upheld, I found no issues and remain very pleased with the work of our team. I do have an email from this particular client where she mentions that she was visiting Torquay because of a bereavement in the family and that she suffers from an illness which means that her senses make her very ill. So perhaps that was partly the reason for her disappointment. I am indeed sorry that she obviously did not enjoy her holiday, but I don’t believe the criticism is fair.
