We were a family of four who stayed in this cottage for a week. The location is by far the best as itâs just on the edge of Looe. Great views, even on a rainy day. The cottage has everything you need for self catering. It was clean, however the only downside was the King size bed. Both the mattress and frame needs replacing, because every move you made, the springs or frame were noisy, which woke you up. My husband ended up sleeping with my son for the rest of the week with a bad back as it was so uncomfortable. This aside a relaxing and enjoyable stay.
We stayed at Trevillis for a week with our teenage sons. The location was absolutely beautiful, the views from the balconies were breathtaking and the property was very comfortable, apart from a few little issues. The mattress on one of of the single beds was quite worn and concave in shape making it quite uncomfortable. We were lucky the weather was good because there was no obvious source of heat in the cottage. There was a gas fire, but I couldnât work out if it was actually connected. I searched for instructions (amongst the plethora of manuals from years gone by for equipment that was no longer in the cottage), but I could not find one for the gas fire. There were radiators, but I think the boiler and controls were behind a locked door. It was a bit chilly in the mornings until the sun came up. Unlike other places we have stayed, there was not much extra equipment in the kitchen, eg. No cling film, polythene bags, kitchen roll, salt, and only one bin bag which we filled up very quickly. When my husband had a shower on the first morning, the water came through the ceiling below and dripped down off the light fitting on to the utility room floor. We reported it straight away and the very pleasant lady we contacted said maybe we hadnât shut the doors properly and to try again being careful to ensure that they were shut. We did this and the water still came through the ceiling. I Contacted her again and said we were happy for them to come in and fix it if they wanted to. Apparently they did not, because no one came and so we had to use the bath all week. The other shower was also faulty as the temperature could not be changed. Unfortunately it was set too cold for my sons who found it a bit disappointing.
These issues did not detract too much from our enjoyment of the holiday and despite them, we thought the cottage was really lovely and would stay again, provided the showers were fixed!
We had a really great week and would definitely recommend Trevillis Cottage. The cottage itself was so comfortable, with a really well equipped kitchen and amazing views across the river. Only a short walk into town but very quiet and peaceful and very cosy despite the fact that we had snow the first few days of our stay there! Thank you very much for a lovely week and looking forward to staying again in the future!
Our family enjoyed a 10-day stay at Trevillis Cottage at the end of June, beginning of July '17 - the accommodation is absolutely spotless, well laid out, with the three balconies adding lovely outdoor living space throughout the day (from breakfast on the bedroom balcony, to afternoon or late evening dining on the patios, which are total suntraps). The views over the river and Looe are breathtaking - the positioning of the property also means you are sheltered from any winds coming off the sea. The kitchen is very well stocked with dishes and utensils for cooking/BBQ-ing at Trevillis. The only negative I had was that it should be made a little clearer in the description that the driveway up to the property is extremely steep (we were grateful we had taken my husband's 3-litre engine car as my little 1.2-litre Citroen would never have had the revs to make it up the hill) however, now we are aware of and used to the driveway, it would not stop us from returning to Trevillis. Instead of navigating the drive every day, we chose to walk down the pathway steps to the main road and walked into Looe a few days (getting the train to Plymouth one day). Trevillis is an ideal base and an extremely comfortable stay.
Unfortunately the weather was horrendous, which sadly cannot be predetermined. Making the property a more important feature to the enjoyment of the holiday. On some days, due to the atrocious weather and hazardous driving conditions, we were house bound and unable to visit other destinations, beaches, villages etc. I would imagine that in a less comfortable and accommodating environment the holiday could have been a disaster. On the contrary offering peace and quite and a stunning ever changing view over the river valley, my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this property to our friends and relations.
