We enjoyed a peaceful week with fantastic views. Lots of trips out and ferry crossings along with exciting boat trips. Wonderful lunches out lots to explore. The Chalet provided everything needed for a great weekâs holiday.
The property is good, though fairly basicâbut the stunning views more than make up for it! We really appreciated the lovely cream tea left by the hosts, a thoughtful and welcoming touch.Be aware that access to the property involves steep steps and a narrow, steep road, which may be challenging for some. That said, Downderry itself is a hidden gem, with plenty of great places to explore nearby.A couple of things to note: the listing photos didnât quite match the actual property. Adding a few board games and some books would be a great idea, especially for rainy days. Overall a great holiday and the weather was fantastic.
We spent 2 wonderful weeks in the cottage with the breathtaking view. Nothing was missing and we felt perfectly looked after. The place is also very nice, you can go on many excursions, the beach is within walking distance and there is also a great pub. Thank you for this unforgettable vacation!

Book with caution!
The Chalet offers a beautifully presented retreat with a charming seaside theme. The interior is tastefully decorated, with modern furnishings, a well-equipped kitchen, and a luxurious double bed ensuring comfort. The outdoor patio is well-maintained, and the views are nothing short of breathtaking. However, serious accessibility issues overshadow these positives. The steep, narrow, and unmarked road leading to the property is extremely challenging, particularly for larger vehicles. Despite reassurances from the owner, navigating this road in a BMW X6 was stressful and hazardous. The uneven concrete steps leading to the property add further difficulty, making daily movement strenuousâespecially with luggage. Location transparency is also a concern. The Chalet is listed under Torpoint, but the actual location in Downderry is only revealed after full payment. Some may feel this lack of upfront disclosure is deliberate, possibly to conceal the accessibility issues before booking. While The Chalet excels in presentation and scenery, its severe access limitations make it unsuitable for many guests. Prospective visitors should prepare for a difficult arrival and avoid booking if mobility or vehicle size is a concern.
Fantastic holiday hideaway in a quiet location with fantastic sea views. Very clean and comfortable properly, had everything we needed, cream tea and flowers were a lovely finishing touch.
A great base for exploring the area but favourite time was relaxing on the terrace, enjoying the sea breeze and the beautiful weather.
We couldnât have asked for anything more apart from maybe being a little fitter for the steps at The Chalet and all the hills in Cornwall!
What a place, fantastic accommodation, everything included that you needed to make your stay comfortable, lovely cream tea and flowers, lovely to wake up to that view! And what a view it was. It was better than the photos suggest. Lovely place to explore from, sampled the village life, pub and restaurant, fantastic beach, Buster, the dog, enjoyed himself. Would come back.
What a wonderful retreat!!!
Seeing, hearing, smelling the sea for 24 hours... I'll miss that!
The small and clean house is functional and perfect for two people.
We put the small table right next to the window and felt like we were sitting outside.
Despite the great weather, we didn't sit down on the well-equipped terrace to eat - the two (domestic) seagulls were too intrusive for that.
When I tried to bring a plate of bruscetta outside, the bread was stolen by one of the seagulls in a matter of seconds đ
(And we never (!!!) feed them bevor or after that story!)
We were able to do lots of great walks on the SWCP and Dartmoor.
Bewsheas is a great restaurant where we had wonderful meals several times.
We really enjoyed the two weeks! Thank you!
Also many thanks for the delicious welcome greeting and the flowers - very special!
P.S. We would have found it helpful to describe how to get there if it had been described that the street has no name, is very steep and leads up from Main Street directly opposite the Oak-Bee House....

Had to cut short due to road closure
First 7days were lovely. However we had to leave on the 9th June as the access road was due to be closed. Having checked with National Grid the road closure was from 10th to 15th June. There was pedestrian access to the village, but the village offered no facilities. No shop and the two eateries did not cater for my husbandâs dietary restrictions. An alternative route was suggested but we were not willing to drive our car up this very steep/narrow track. We had to walk up this track each evening to obtain a wifi/mobile signal and on one occasion a car was coming down it and there was nowhere for it to pass us. We had to walk in front of the car until the bottom in order for it to pass us. We were advised that there was no WiFi supplied at the property but was not advised that we would not be able to get 3/4G or phone signal. We were told that we maybe able to sign into ownerâs fatherâs wifi, if we sat on his driveway, however as this person had recently had surgery he was staying away from his house and obviously switched off his wifi as we could not connect to it. Had we known this we would not have booked this venue. Lovely property if you want isolation. We did not. It was our intention to use this as a base, but without a car this was not viable.
Alles in allem: GroĂartig, weiter so!
Insa + Michael
Itâs the second time we stayed at this property and there is a reason for that itâs just beautiful stunning views lots of beautiful little places to visit
The Chalet was just perfect for our stay. Totally peaceful and a wonderful view to wake up to each morning. The property was clean warm even in November. It's a bit of a climb up the lane, but quite unique and cosy and the chalet was very well equipped..
We had a lovely stay at the Chalet in Downderry. The place in small and cosy but perfect for a couple and it has everything you need. Very well equipped kitchen, decent shower but the main selling point is the balcony with the most amazing views over the sea! We could have stayed out there the whole holiday barring some rain! The only issue was the nexy door neighbour decided to start clearing his land with chainsaws and diggers, and then a bonfire which ruined our last 2 days at the place since the whole place stank of smoke. Hopefully that won't be an issue again but we would love to come back in the future.
