Great house tucked away in Devon but so accessible for Exeter and all the surroundings. Good size swimming pool for everyone to enjoy and excellent pizza oven. Hosts were fantastic and so helpful
The property is absolutely stunning, as is the location. It was even better in person than it was in the photos. The communication and check-in was flawless. I would definitely recommend staying here!
We had a fun and relaxing stay in this beautiful house in an idyllic location just outside Cheriton Fitzpaine village. The view from the house was wonderful to wake up to and the children had a blast in the pool which was clean and well maintained. We also enjoyed the outside pizza oven followed by an evening wallow in the wood fired hot tub. There is also a well stocked games room in the basement which kept the children entertained when they werenât in the pool.
The house is charming and spacious and though the furnishing is not modern it is perfectly comfortable and has a beautiful kitchen with an aga (and electric ovens) and sliding doors onto a lovely terrace with plenty of seating.
The owners were also very responsive and helpful and invited the children to collect eggs from the duck in the field just behind the house which was a lovely touch and a novel experience for them.
We rented this place as we wanted somewhere out in the countryside to get away from it all, and Homecroft couldnât be more perfect. The house itself is very spacious and clean, with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Lovely big rooms, kitchen and lounge and even an amazing games room downstairs that kept us entertained every evening. The gardens are incredible, totally secluded and well maintained but with some rustic charm, and the pool and hot tub area just topped it all off.
Thereâs a small village about 1/2 km away with an epic pub, but other than that you feel like you got the whole of the Devon countryside all to yourself, donât think we saw another person the whole time we were there.
Iain couldnât have been a better host and the whole process was really straight forward. The check in process is all remote as well so you can turn up whenever you like which is an added bonus.
Huge thanks to Iain for letting us stay at this beautiful property, we had the best time and I hope to be back again before to long.
Had a great week in this amazing house. Iain was fantastic beforehand with my endless questions and during our stay if we had any queries.
The house is fantastic for a large group. The children had a blast playing in the pool , games room and the mud kitchen. The outside area of the property is amazing. We made full use of the bbq, hot tub, pizza oven and fire pit. The cost of wood mounts up but is clearly noted in the information.
The house really has everything. A lovely terrace area with a stunning view.
The beauty of the house is the outside area. I have seen other reviews comment on the bedrooms - I would agree the bedrooms downstairs are a little dated but they are clean and we had such a great week outside this did not bother us at all. The kitchen and living room are a great space.
It really is a unique property and having searched thoroughly before booking there was very little else if anything that could offer what this house does and it certainly met up if not went beyond our expectations. Would thoroughly recommend. Thanks Iain for a great stay.

As the name suggests, Homecroft is a large, homely family house. The house is located overlooking the Doomsday book village of Cheriton Fitzpaine in rural Devon. There is a very high end farm shop, a community shop and two pubs in the village. The Ring of Bells pub is an award winning 14th century gastropub. Cheriton Fitzpaine is 12 miles from the county town of Exeter. There are excellent road and rail connections to any other part of the UK. London is just over two hours on a high speed train. Homecroft is set in two acres of paddock and garden. The house has six bedrooms and can sleep up to 20. There is a very large convivial kitchen which has two pyrolytic self cleaning electric ovens, a five ring gas hob and a large four oven Aga. The sitting room has a wood burner and a 65 inch TV. Games room/cellar has a snooker table, darts, air hockey and a "bar". There is direct outdoor access from the games room/cellar. There are two fridges, one large fridge/freezer and a wine fridge. The master bedroom has an en-suite toilet with a bath: there is a further bathroom with a shower upstairs and a toilet and shower room downstairs. Outside there is a large swimming pool which is heated in the summer. An 8 person, wood fired Scandinavian hot tub. A large covered pizza oven in a separate building in the garden. Floodlit table tennis. A tree covered outside barbecue. A large firepit and a willow Arbor. A covered hammock deck overlooking the pool. The patio has excellent views into the countryside and approximately half of it is wisteria covered. There are hens and geese in the paddock and guests are free to collect the superb hens eggs. Homecroft has something for everyone whether you want to laze the day or be super active with the various amenities. Mid Devon has a large range of outside activities: horse riding: clay pigeon shooting; sailing; coasteering; paddle boarding; sheep racing (!); paint balling; indoor/outdoor rock climbing
Homecroft is located outside the village of Cheriton Fitzpaine. The village was mentioned in the Doomsday book after the 11th Century Norman invasion. Mid Devon is one of England's great undiscovered secrets. Most visitors to Devon tend to gravitate towards the rather crowded north and south coasts so we are largely left in peace. The area is laced with thousands of miles (no exaggeration) of sunken lanes. Even In the height of summer it is possible to walk for hours through beautiful soporific countryside without seeing a car. You can see the village church tower from Homecroft yet you have complete seclusion with the no immediate neighbours and are within ten minutes walk of two excellent local pubs: real English pubs. The award winning Ring of Bells serves world class food and will prepare meals for collection by guests at Homecroft. The local farm shop serves a full English breakfast as well as offering pick-your-own fruit. We keep geese in the field surrounding the house and a small paddock of hens. Guests are welcome to use the hen's eggs. We have developed Homecroft to be as user friendly to as wide a demographic as possible. It will equally suit large parties seeking lots to do as well as those who might prefer a more leisurely break. There are a lot of activities for all tastes in Mid Devon. The section above lists only some of the many places to visit. The beautiful cathedral city of Exeter is about 25 minutes drive away. Exeter University is now one of the leading universities in Europe boasting a student population in excess of 30,000: the night life in the city is correspondingly large and varied. There are restaurants to suite all tastes and all budgets and excellent shopping.
