Wonderful property and great location on the lake. Devilâs Lake is a beautiful, clear water and sandy bottomed lake. The water was clean and the location is close to the sand bar. My family had a wonderful long weekend at a unique house.
A beautifully loved lake cottage. This cottage was built in the 40's and they conformed it without rebuilding it and has that old cottage feel but updated. Everything was very clean and Sara was a fantastic host! The home has everything you could ask for while staying at the lake. Thank you, Sara
A great lake vacation in Michigan all depends on the weather and it was glorious for all 5 days! Very quaint cottage, surprisingly roomy, with history galore on prestigious cherry point! Will return!
My wife and I found this property to be absolutely perfect for us and our adult children and grandchildren for a lakefront cottage experience. All necessary amenities. Excellent host. Beautiful setting. Simply perfect lake experience.
I feel that the property was great! So many places for my whole family to enjoy together and alone! My 14 & 11 years old had many choices. My 4 yr twins & 70 year old aunt made themselves right at home.
Rustic cottage with modern amenities. Very enjoyable stay!
Throwback cottage with a lot of character. Great waterfront and sandy beach. Family and friends had a blast despite a couple days of crappy weather. All basic items were provided. All sorts of memorabilia to check out if you're inclined. The owners (Sara and Leslie) give the cottage a personal touch and were helpful and responsive.
Haloma is a wonderful, well equipped cottage and lake location. And a "cottage" it is with all the artifacts and heirlooms throughout, telling the history of the cottage. The cottage and grounds are amble for family and friend time. You literally only need your favorite beach towel and swimsuit everything else is already there. Large deck at the end of the dock was great for just hanging out. Swim area is great for little ones (shallow) or just rafting, which we did a lot of.Had a wonderful relaxing time, looking forward to booking for next summer. Rented a pontoon from Rob's Rentals, great time cruising the lake and our kids enjoyed time at the sand bar.
Family members that live in the area came to enjoy sitting in the yard overlooking the lake. My wife grew up in Addison and spent summers with family and friends on the sandbar in the lake. As for the house we are sorry to safe it was not very clean. Linen and towels were excellent however. My biggest concern was the property did not have ground fault breakers in kitchen or bathroom. Many outlets were clearly from the original construction. In addition there were numerous extension cords being used by owner to provide lighting. I have pictures if you wouldn't like me to share with others. I will just end with that. I will be surprised to see this review posted. It is clear that many reviews are not published or there are many months that this unit goes without being rented.
Fun family time over the holiday weekend. The place was just as pictured and really felt you were lent the cabin from another family member. On site introduction from one of the owners really made us feel welcomed. Great family heritage here! The windows were very new and easy to use making for great cross breezes throughout the whole place. Loved the views from the living room on both sides and the sunroom. The dining area is small for my big buys, but we ate dinner outside - on the patio, looking at the lake. THE VIEWS WERE AMAZING. We loved having access to the kayak and paddleboards.
The owners were very, very responsive both before and during our stay. We had a small issue and it was addressed immediately with a solution greater than I would have thought of myself.
My recommendation would be to add some sort of light on the stairs, even a battery operated push light, the steps did get very dark.
Everything you need is here for a great family weekend, games, BBQ, beach towels etc. The water was shallow enough for our granddaughter to play endlessly while we watched from the dock.
Great recommendation for Luigi's Pizza on the last day. MMM.
We rented a pontoon from Rob's Rentals and had a wonderful time - we would suggest getting their before 9:00 as they recommend and you can really have the boat ALL DAY!!
Keep in mind that you are very close to the famous sandbar, great if you want to be with the action. Saturday (Labor Day weekend) the party was jamming with full karoake - not so peaceful.
My parents raved about it too!
First I want to say that the location of the cottage is perfection! The lake is so clear at the dock and the trees allow just enough shade from the hot summer sun. The owners were welcoming and extremely responsive to any questions and concerns. That being said, the property is apparently in the process of being updated but many of the planned updates had not been completed. The stairs from the patio to the dock need to be done. The current âstairsâ are pavers with 2 stones that rock and are slippery. The cottage is old..and the posted pictures are current, but the place is so dark and dreary. The clutter is almost suffocating.. There was so much dust and cobwebs covering the shelves, stairs, and lights. The bathroom upstairs was clean but is in urgent need of being recaulked and there were multiple mildew stains that we scrubbed with bleach cleaner prior to use. Our biggest concern was the electrical. There were so many cords and extensions with inadequate lighting and we truly worried if it was up to date and not a fire hazard. There were 2 refrigerators and the one in the kitchen was empty and somewhat clean but the garage refrigerator was filthy with expired food and green liquid on the bottom. So we avoided that refrigerator at all costs. My humblest opinion is that this property shoukd be overhauled, updated, and thoroughly cleaned top to bottom. That being said, despite the condition, my family made wonderful memories and I do appreciate the responsiveness of the owners.
We had 4 days to get away and unwind and we were lucky to have found such a warm and charming cottage. The cottage is such a cool rustic home, located on a very quiet street. We really didn't see or hear any neighbors. It was very clean and so many vintage photos on the wall, as well as lamps and other antiques. The lake was simply beautiful. Very clear and extremely quiet in the mornings. We were on the lake at 6 am and watched the sunrise every day. We had the entire lake to ourselves. In the afternoons, the lake comes a live with many pontoon boats, jet skiers and water skiers. Fun to watch. We ate at several local pubs/restaurants and all of them were great. Very friendly people with extensive menus. We truly enjoyed ourselves and Sara and Leslie could not have been better hosts. Very responsive and really wanted us to have a relaxing week - which we did. : ) Dave R
This cottage is what I remember a lakefront home to be like. It's beautiful wood walls and windows looking out over the lake. The dock and sand bottom lake made it nice to enjoy the water. Even though it rained a few days we still had a great time.
We rented this property for my parents for a week in September. The rest of our family had reserved another cottage directly across the lake. The house was perfect for them. Both owners were lovely to work with and we appreciated the face to face welcome we received when checking in. The views from the house were incredible and my dad enjoyed reading his book out on the patio. The private dock made it easy for us to pick up my parents with our boat before heading out on the lake. We will definitely be back to Devils Lake and we wonât hesitate to look into renting this property again! Thank you all so much!
Very nice location and host. We loved our stay! Highly recommended. Note: We did not have a good experience with Rayâs Rentals and were charged for a broken propeller - despite not being warned about the depth of the sandbar.
Very nice lake house for a family with kids ages 12-16. We enjoyed the lake all week. The lake is shallow by the dock and good for kids to play in especially with the paddle board. Owners very nice. Charming place.
Great location, as described. AC unit in middle bedroom does not disperse out anywhere even with use of fans and that bedroom becomes an ice box in middle of night. Suggest owners keep windows shut rather open as was when we arrived and a very hot day therefore cottage extremely stuffy. Suggest owners perform a routine deep cleaning and check the sofa pull outs for sheets to be changed. Our concerns were addressed promptly.
Lots of interesting things, family heirlooms/antiques to look at. All basic things (kitchen/bath) are provided.
We had a great experience. They have so much history in this cottage. It is not modern, but has kept the cottage charm, taking you back in time. You are right in the lake at Cherry Point - the most exclusive part of the lake. The owners were very kind and took care of any concerns before and during our stay. They put posts in for us to store our waverunner and let us use a lift for our boat. It was a wonderful trip for us.
An old college friend of mine was getting married at the Yacht Club on Devil's Lake, so I rented this beautiful cottage/house for the long weekend for myself and a few of our other friends who were attending the wedding. The house was perfect. Very clean and in great shape, but with a lot of old family charm. It had everything we could possibly need, plenty of beds and outdoor seating, fully stocked kitchen, clean sheets, towels, and blankets, etc. The yard and the view of the lake are beautiful. It was nice to just wake up and walk right out to the lake. We spent a lot of time sitting on the dock. There was a fire pit on the edge of the lake, where we sat at night time in front of the fire. There is a lot of boating on the lake during the day, but in the evenings, it was as peaceful as could be. And the communication with the owners was excellent as well---quick responses, gave me all the information I needed, and were very accommodating. Thanks Sara and Leslie!
I would rent this house again without reservation!
My sister and I are the proud owners of Haloma after having spent a lifetime of summers here. We grew up in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, 90 miles from our cottage. My sister lives three miles from the cottage and I live in Grosse Pointe with my son and husband.
Haloma was built in 1940 by our grandparents. It has been a beloved family gathering spot for our family and friends for over 80 years. It is our desire to share our home with folks who appreciate a classic lake house, continually updated and meticulously maintained, while preserving the charm of a classic vintage cottage. Please view photos before renting. Haloma is best suited for those who seek a lake cottage with the feel of days gone by while still offering the modern amenities you expect in today's world. We love spending time here with our families and you will too. There is truly nothing like summertime at the lake.
Spending time at a lakefront retreat with family has been a lifelong joy for us and numerous families return to rent from us each year. The cottage is situated on a double lot, so it offers plentiful outdoor space and 90 feet of waterfront. Whether enjoying the water, sitting on the dock, patio or on the inside porch, or playing family games in the large yard, the feel of lake living surrounds you.
