Lovely week in Sheringham

Ashley cottage was the perfect base for our late summer break in Norfolk. The cottage is comfortable and very well appointed in an ideal location close up the beach and shops.

Cleanliness and ongoing maintenance issues

Checking in late on Saturday afternoon, we were disappointed to find the cottage was in poor condition. We contacted the booking agents, Keys Holiday Cottages, first thing on Monday; their manager visited the property and confirmed a lack of cleanliness and the many ongoing maintenance issues. The soft furnishings were filthy, as were the carpets. The worktops and table tops were sticky and the oven was disgusting. The double bed mattress and mattress topper were both heavily stained. The mattress protector was worn out, leaving the plastic layer exposed which made sleeping both uncomfortable and noisy. In addition, many maintenance issues appeared outstanding, i.e. the shaver socket/light unit was not working in the shower room, a bulb in the ceiling lights needed replacing, and the extractor vent was clogged with fluff and dust, the same situation existed in the 3rd floor bathroom vent. In the kitchen a cabinet door was hanging off, and an area of one of the tiled worktops was cracked from front to back. As a result of the manager’s visit, the owner has had a deep clean of the carpets, soft furnishings and oven carried out. However, no mention of attending to the any of the outstanding maintenance issues was made, despite being noted during the manager’s inspection. The booking agents, Keys, did their best to the alert the owner to these problems, immediately following their visit to the cottage. Our advice would be to check, in advance of booking with Keys, to determine if any of the above maintenance issues has been addressed.

Great Holiday Let

Really great property. Not necessarily modern and new but has EVERYTHING you need for a holiday seaside break. Kitchen is well equipped and the cutlery and crockery were spotless. Washing machine and dryer both worked great. Parking spot is very tight but plenty of advance notice is given when booking on whether your car will fit or not. The house has 2 showers and a bath with the downstairs shower being of very high quality. Plenty of seating and overall a brilliant location

Great location

We booked a short stay Wednesday to Sunday. The parking is tight as documented, we took a MG HS and made it through okay. The property is dated and dirty marks on carpets and furniture, unpleasant odour in front room but we got some air freshener to solve it. Lots of cobwebs and appliances were not clean, we contacted Keys and a cleaner was sent back within the hour. Double bed in back bedroom was hard, suited my mother though as has a bad back. Had everything in apart from a hairdryer! Great location can be a little noisy at night with people are coming home from the local pub but doesn’t last long.

The house was in a great position - so close to the sea. It does need to have Wi-Fi if possible that was missed by my grandchildren. The shower’s were very efficient. There were some lovely toys for my grandchildren to play with.

Amazing location and beautiful home

The property is in an amazing location for the high street and beach as it is situated just down the road from both. The check in process was nice and easy and the private parking was useful. The house itself was clean, however some cups in the cupboard were dirty and probably needed a wash before being put back in the cupboard. The beds were very comfy and the bedrooms were quite big as well. The only other thing I’d say is that the doors are very heavy and as we had my elderly Nan with me we had to wedge some of the doors open as she couldn’t open them on her own. Overall, this house was a really good find and it was a lovely stay.

A lovely cottage one minute from the sea

We stayed over Christmas. The owners provided a decorated and lit tree - a lovely personal touch. The layout is quirky, but in a good way. A very spacious kitchen-diner is great for breakfasts, although there's a bigger dining room next door. There's also a roomy shower room (the shower would easily fit two people) with a toilet, and a comfy living room. The first floor features three bedrooms and a small lavatory room. The second floor has a single bedroom, a double bunk room and a really large bathroom. I'm a little surprised they didn't make more of the space: if the bath wasn't so tight against the wall and the angle of the chimney, its shower could be mounted higher. Although the cottage does have a parking space assigned to it, I really don't recommend using it, as it's ridiculously difficult to manoeuvre a car into the tight little lane leading to the space, and you risk damaging your vehicle. Instead, park in the Salvation Army car park just before it, to unload, then move your car to the East Cliff car park off Cliff Road nearby, and buy a week's season ticket, which is also good for the Station Road car park.

Family holiday

Very difficult to find any negatives. For the younger members of the family the lack of WiFi was an issue. The house and facilities were excellent. Amazing house for a holiday and will be booking again without any qualms.

Dirty cottage, we wiped everything over and our cloths were dirty, I had to ring up after 3 days due to bank holidays because bathroom was moldy and dirty, was spacious and loads room and location was great which was 2 mins from beach and shops walking, just let down by cleanliness

Second visit to Ashley Cottage

Our extended family loved our week at Ashley Cottage , location is just fantastic for beach access and trips to town. Lot of room to spread out and have own space but comfy when all together in lounge or dining room. Stayed in Sheringham 5 years in a row, twice in this cottage, and certainly hope to be back.

Another lovely holiday at Ashley Cottage

Ashley Cottage is a lovely house which is conveniently located for both the beach and High Street in Sheringham. It has plenty of space for our family of 5. The kitchen is well fitted, with the benefit of a dishwasher plus a useful breakfast table in addition to the main dining room next door. The main improvement that is needed is the addition of WiFi as this is considered an essential by the younger members of the household, and increasingly by the majority of people.

Superb location.

Spacious, comfortable, so close to beach and shops. Well appointed. Bathrooms, kitchen lounge etc clean communal areas stairs etc very dusty. Excellent if WiFi could be added. But we had a good week and enjoyed staying here.

Ashley cottage Sherringham

As expected from previous reviews it was dated but very spacious in a great location. It was however filthy especially the kitchen which we did report and they offered to send a cleaner out. It needs more than one and at least a day to clean the grease and grime from years of dirt. The cleaning was very poor and the small garden was and still is full of weeds with broken garden furniture. We expected more for the money we paid.
