We have stayed in many houses in the area over many years, and especially love staying on the buttlands. When we arrived at holly house we were really disappointed, one of the table legs had come off the table, a chairs seat had fallen through, the main blind in the front room didnât work and the toilets smelt of urine. I immediately reported these problems and someone cane out the next day and fixed the leg, but nothing else was done. Throughout the week door handles fell off lights didnât work and the smell in the bathroom got worse, I again reported a problem, but no real apology was made. For the money that was paid the condition of the house was really poor, I will not stay there again.
Overall we were very happy in this brilliant location. Our only criticism would be the awful condition of the garden furniture which is so old to be barely usable and an umbrella fit only for the tip. Also no pegs provided for the washing line. So on balance the house itself scores very well but the garden was uninviting.
Brilliant location, well equipped, comfortable stay for dogs and their humans in Wells-next-the-sea!
Holly House is the perfect place to stay in Wells. It is a comfortable, well equipped house with a safe garden for escapologist dogs! It is within spitting distance of three lovely dog friendly pubs that serve delicious food, so not far to go in the evenings for a decent pint and supper. If you fancy eating in, as we did a couple of times, the kitchen has everything you need to produce a decent meal or there is excellent take away fish and chips or pizza within a 10 minute walk. We had the most wonderful stay and the dogs really enjoyed exploring the beach, pine woods and the rest of the Holkham Estate. Thank you Norfolk Hideaways, we will be back!
Excellent location. Good facilities. The only issues would be that there was only one wardrobe for 7 adults - could do with more hanging facilities. The house smelled of the previous occupiers cooked breakfast. I certainly wouldnât hesitate to recommend and would certainly go back myself.
We enjoyed our stay at Holly House but there were issues with parking and some areas of the house. On arrival we were unable to park anywhere near the house and had to make a few trips to and from the car in the rain to transfer our belongings. Ultimately we had to leave our vehicle two streets away. The house is in need of a thorough clean - the plug holes in the wash basins need attention and there was discoloured limescale in the toilets, there was a large rug on the landing which was stained and curling badly along one edge, there is a lack of shelving in the kitchen cupboards meaning crockery and saucepans were stacked precariously. The hotchpotch of saucepans and the layout of the kitchen made cooking a meal problematic, there was a small, dirty aluminium pan in the back of the cupboard. Outside on the patio was a dirty parasol and an old badly weathered wooden table, lots of weeds in the patio and dead plants in the pots. For our next trip to Wells-next-the-sea we will look for alternative accommodation.
Attractive house and good layout. Lack of storage space in twin bedroom. Baskets under beds, hooks on door would help. Even better remove hanging cupboard, replace with row of hooks and hangers, and chest of drawers. Not fun living out of case in tiny space.
Kitchen, well equipped apart from lack of small saucepans and frying pan.
Major drawback is the noise from the pub at back, so no one could sleep until closing hours.
Holly House is ideally situated at The Buttlands which has a lovely green for the dog to run around on. House could do with redecorating and a few large cracks on the walls being filled.
Spacious accommodation and comfortable and so suitable for families. Didn't like the ants on the work surface in the kitchen and the sugar in the canister needed to be thrown away and the container cleaned. Delighted with the bits in the kitchen cupboards eg mustard etc which was a real help when self catering. Everything I needed was there even down to t he electric hand whisk. Some of the dining room chairs need to be upholstered or be fitted with pads as they are uncomfortable to sit on. Confused as to which house is responsible for putting out the bins. Apart from those few negative but I hope helpful comments we enjoyed our weekend thoroughly. Won't mention the parking!!!
This is the second time we have stayed in one of the 'Hollies' , Holly House is spacious, has all home comforts including books, DVDs and games and is in a fantastic location next door to pubs and restaurants in Wells-next-the-Sea.
