We spent 4 nights, 11 people including children. The house is amazing, had everything we needed. The pool was great fun and a highlight of our stay. Close to town for pubs and shops, as well as nature walks. A wonderful place to spend time with loved ones in a special location away from the hustle and bustle.
Myself and my families my enjoyed two nights at the Manor. Had a wonderful stay. The children lived the pool. The private chef( one of the recommended) was amazing. House was big enough to accommodate 11 of us 4 of which were children. Really recommend this property if you want to be in a property with a lot of history. Thank you for making our stay memorable.
We booked the manor as a family group to celebrate my mums 80th birthday. Our group ranged from 7-80 and the manor suited us all. The accommodation was spotless and had all the amenities we needed. The pool was a lovely temperature and enjoyed by all. The walks around the gardens were lovely. We ate out 2 nights and ordered take away the 3rd. Uber taxis and food delivery drivers came to the manor. All communication with the owners was responded to quickly and professionally. We had a wonderful stay and would thoroughly recommend the manor to anyone who wants a peaceful and relaxing getaway.
12 family members stayed for a long weekend instead of a trip overseas. The stay was amazing. We almost felt the history walking in to the home - even one of the teenagers got excited about history! Everything is beautifully presented and we were able to relax in all the spacious lounges. The kitchen is a great size and the round table in the conservatory acted as a family magnet, as kids and parents came, ate and crept away for a dose of reading or watching the secret TV. Our kids loved the pool, which is a terrific size and depth. The weather was a little mixed so we spent quite a long time playing in the water. All the bedrooms were very comfortable and the whole home was spotless. We would strongly recommend this amazing Manor house for a wonderful family gathering and a place to hang your hat over a relaxing weekend. Terrific.
We were a group of 12 who spent a most fantastic weekend (Friday to Sunday in Novemember 2010) in this most amazing property with a moat and its wonderful history. The bedrooms are very beautifully made up, the kitchen is huge and well equipped with everything provided included milk, coffee etc, and the other living spaces are just gorgeous. The whole property was spotlessly clean. We had a dinner for 14 on the Saturday, using one of the Manor's recommended caterers, which was superb.
We meant to take walks into the nearest village but never made it there. All weekend was spent in the house, apart for a walk around the grounds.
Our welcome and service by the 'caretakers' were very friendly and we received plenty of information beforehand with a quick tour and history of the house on arrival.
Free treats are offered and we managed to use them all except we never got to one of the treats which was use of the swimming pool as we stayed to enjoy the comfortable feel and cosiness of the house with our friends. All in all, we had a wonderful weekend. We will definitely recommend this property to friends and others.
Many thanks goes to Great Tangley Manor.

We booked and paid the non-refundable price and told the property manager that we would be celebrating my motherâs 70th birthday. We also paid a large amount extra for late checkout which, at other nearby venues, has been free. We later informed them of the exact number of people attending (adults and a 3-4 babies) for about 3-4 hours on Sat afternoon. At this point the property manager revealed theyâd be charging another large extra amount per person (babies would also be charged) for their visit because he is ârunning a businessâ. We explained that we would be using our own cutlery, that it was a dry event and that babies do not cause wear and tear to a property.
It feels like we were being charged a premium for a professional, luxury experience, however, the fridge and some of the kitchen cupboards were dirty. It said it had salt and pepper - these were broken and empty. The owner came around to ask for the champagne glasses as he had been told it was a dry event - which was awkward.
The owner didnât want us to ruin the driveway as it had been raining. Therefore, we had to use the back driveway, which meant our guests all got lost as there is no signage or view of the house from the back. This meant one of us had to wait by the back gate and missed half of my mumâs birthday.
The bedrooms were very cold and there were not enough indoor heaters.
Overall, we definitely felt we had been overcharged and the property under-delivered. There are much better value properties nearby.
Amazing stay at Great Tangley Manor, gorgeous original features of the house made the week feel extra special.
Amazing space for all the family. Use of the tennis court and swimming pool everyday kept the whole family busy!
Would highly recommend to everyone!
The manor was an idyllic location for a hen weekend. One of our friends taught a yoga class in the morning in the beautiful grounds. We had some lovely meals in the impressive finding room and had a lovely afternoon in the pool.
We enjoyed Great Tangley Manor with two families (4 kids ages 4 - 7). The indoor pool, which was heated to 30 degrees, was a massive hit with our crowd. Two swims / day tired out our kids and allowed the adults to enjoy the many reception rooms with a glass or two of wine. Lovely place to spend a weekend and what a beautiful property!
Overall, we had a really good experience and a wonderful 10-day stay at this 1000-year old Manor House. We were a family of 9 ranging from grandparents (age 68 and 70) parents in their 30âs and 40âs, two teenagers and a three year old. There was a plumbing issue with the bath in the master bedroom (broken tap) which couldnât be fixed despite best efforts by Nicho and the owners but apart from that relatively minor inconvenience the house was perfect for our needs. The grounds are magnificent (enhanced by the moat and our very own family of ducks) and the indoor swimming pool was warm and very popular. The house itself is comfortable and interesting with plenty of nooks and crannies to lose yourself in. All five bedrooms were well furnished and comfortable. We would recommend GTM to any family who want to spend some relaxing quality time in a lovely part of southern England. Many thanks to Nicho for being readily available at all times when needed. A great staycation was had by all of us.
We spent a fantastic week at Great Tangley Manor and it was the ideal venue to relax with family and friends. The house and gardens are as great as the pictures suggest and is very well equipped with everything you would need. The indoor swimming pool was put to much use by both children and adults, especially during the mixed English summer weather. Great Tangley Manor is fully recommended and we wouldnât hesitate to book again. Thank you
I am Brit that lives in the US. I wanted to find something quintessentially English to host family and friends at Spring Break. It needed to be easy to get to, big enough, comfortable and all weather (particularly for kids). I found it all at Great Tangley and more. The best part being the wonderful combination of history and modern comfort all mixed together.
Adult dinner for 14 in the 1,000 year old panelled dining room, BBQ in the courtyard, Easter Egg hunt in the gardens, kids in the pool; just fantastic.
I just returned from a weeklong stay with a literary group at Great Tangley Manor. The manor is in a wonderful location and has all the amenities to make you feel at home. I would highly recommend walking on the public footpaths that lead from the manor into the countryside, playing tennis on the manor tennis courts, going for a swim in the heated pool, reading in the library or drawing room, day trips into the Surrey Hills of Outstanding Beauty, and just soaking up the history of this 11th century manor.
We had a wonderful stay at Great Tangley when we based ourselves there for our daughter's wedding which was nearby. It is a beautiful setting and we have got some memorable photos of the bride in the gardens. The house is well equipped and comfortable and very homely despite its size and we all had a great time. The manager was very helpful and welcoming - and everything ran smoothly.
We were stunned by this impressive 11th century Manor House. It was certainly more than we had anticipated. The house was warm and comfortable and it felt like home. We were all able to relax and enjoy the weekend of celebrations. A truly wonderful experience and we all had a splendid meal on the Saturday evening provided by the caterers. Thank you for making the weekend so memorable.
Frankly, words fail me...it was an honour and a privilege to turn 40 at Tangley, joining an impressive list of historic figures that preceded us. Tangley is stunning, a great place to go back in time whilst having all the modern conveniences you'd ever need. Thank you Nicho for making us so welcome and filling us in on the history of the place, it felt very special. Karen (Birthday Girl, Easter 2015)
Great Tangley Manor is a wonderful house with great facilities. We all had a fantastic stay, everyone was impressed, the photos do not capture the true beauty and atmosphere this place has. The people at GTM couldn't do more to accommodate our requirements, having additional guests for a day. The people were lovely and so helpful. Would highly recommend this as a holiday house for anyone!
A very enjoyable weekend at Great Tangley Manor with the family, celebrating my husband's 60th birthday. The house is exactly as described. Very spacious, very clean, superbly equipped for a large gathering and extremely comfortable. I can't think of anything it doesn't have that you could want. The grounds are beautiful too and the swimming pool is large for a private pool and reasonably warm. The grandchildren loved it and our son and daughter in law played tennis and gave the court the thumbs up. The house is so close to civilisation yet feels in the heart of the countryside, so it was perfectly situated for our family to get together in nice surroundings without anyone having to travel very far from London.
I would recommend this house as being just the ticket for a gathering of any age group. There is so much space in every room that you can't possibly get on top of each other. All of our children agreed that it was far and away the best house that has ever been hired by our family, and we have hired quite a few! It was a shame not to have met Nicho, due to his being away on annual leave, because everyone raves about him in the reviews. But he was very helpful in the first instance of making sure our needs were met by providing extra beds for children. Maybe next time....
We stayed at Great Tangley Manor for 5 days over Christmas having flown in our children and grandchildren from Australia, Thailand and the USA - a total of 9 adults, 3 young children and 1 infant. The property is absolutely amazing, very clean and beautifully maintained. Nicho, the manager, was extremely helpful in accommodating our two preview visits and facilitating our moving in. The history of the property is fascinating and one can almost feel the presence of King John (with a wench from the village!) and other royalty who have stayed there and having Christmas dinner in the incredible dining room was a wonderful experience. The grandchildren loved the indoor swimming pool and some of the more energetic ones among us made use of the tennis court. The living rooms, bedrooms and kitchen are very spacious and all very well appointed.
All in all, the perfect venue for our family reunion and we would highly recommend Great Tangley Manor.
All in all the perfect venue for our family reunion
We'd all highly recommend staying at Great Tangley Manor - it's a wonderful house with so much history. Genuinely stunning. Great service from Nicho and the owners. And a fantastic pool too. The only downside was that we couldn't stay longer!
12 of us stayed at GTM on the weekend of the 16th May 2014. The property is stunning, spotless and well worth every penny. The staff and owners were incredibly helpful from the day of my initial enquiry, to the day we checked out. All of us said the pictures on the website did not do the property justice. GTM had everything we needed and anything it didn't have, the estate manager offered to get us. I cannot recommend it enough.
