This was the most wonderful holiday. The accommodation was absolutely excellent, spotlessly clean and the welcome was second to none. The holiday was the best we have ever had. Ourselves and the dogs had the most wonderful time. We cannot recommend it highly enough. Please go and see for yourselves.
The booking process was very easy and the manager Martin was a great communicator throughout. The cottage was beautifully prepared and very comfortable. Everything so clean. Beds really comfortable. Cream tea provided which was a lovely touch and lots of helpful information in the cottage helped us prepare great days out. The location of the cottage is beautiful - lots of wildlife to see and pretty views from the private patio area. Hartland village is a short drive away (you can walk) and it has a well stocked shop for supplies, a post office, 2 great pubs serving good food and a coffee shop. Free parking to access these venues. If you want to go further afield, most interesting places can be accessed via the A39 which is close by.
I would recommend Yapham Cottages. Customer comfort and enjoyment is clearly important to the manager who could not have been more helpful and available.
Shipload Cottage was absolutely perfect in every way. It is exactly as described on here. It was spotlessly clean and welcoming, even though certain items, I am told, had been removed due to Covid19. Itâs a very quirky little cottage, with the kitchen and en-suite bedroom downstairs and the main bedroom and bathroom upstairs. Everything you need in the kitchen is there and the addition of a table top freezer is very handy. The hot water is plentiful and a nice soak in the bath, after an extremely long journey down from the Midlands, was most welcome. We sat out most evenings on the little patio area, taking in the beautiful views over the fields. Their woodlands, unfortunately, were not open to walk through which was a shame, but even though the cottage is very remote, you can easily get anywhere in Devon from it. The village of Hartland is a couple of miles down the road and a pleasant walk if youâre up to it. The beach at Hartland Quay was stunning. Itâs very rocky, but can be walked over in strong shoes. We were blessed to have had good weather which just made the whole view there quite spectacular - especially the way the rocks had worn away over the years! Very rugged, but breathtaking. Clovelly is about 3.5 miles away - we went with the intention of staying a couple of hours and then going on somewhere else, but there was so much to see we stayed all day, enjoying a jug of sangria on the quay. Clovelly village is a Heritage site and owned privately by a family. It is totally cobbled everywhere and the little streets down to the quay are very steep - although there is a landrover service to and from the village.
We had a fantastic time in Devon, and going back each evening to Shipload Cottage was the icing on the cake! Martin, the manager was very helpful and if we needed anything, we only had to ask. We were so impressed with Shipload Cottage, we booked a two week stay there next Summer, too!!
Very clean and well presented cottage. Martin was very helpful when needed and the area is very quiet and peaceful. Ideal for a chilled, relaxing break. Handy for the main A39 trunk road to get to places in Devon and Cornwall, would highly recommend.
Truly a wonderful break, such delightful place to stay. I think we had literally everything we could have possibly needed. Cleanliness was second to none, the cottage was charming and quirky. I think we'll certainly be back!

Beautiful and Peaceful
Four of us stayed in Shipload Cottage for a long weekend. The cottage was spotless, with everything one could possibly need, plus a delicious cream tea, bottle of wine and even a box of chocolates to welcome us. We were enchanted by the beautiful surroundings and all the little birds that came to the feeder just outside the front door.
We would definitely like to return and do some more exploring of this lovely part of the world.
Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.
This is a wonderful cottage to stay in as it has everything you could want. The perfect place to see the wonderful North Devon coastline. If you like a peaceful and quiet holiday and beautiful scenery this is the place for you.
Great cottage, cosy, warm, comfortable and clean with beautiful views plus a cream tea on arrival
Really enjoyed our stay, the directions on arrival were easy, the cottage was well stocked and cosy, everything you could want for a New Years holiday in Devon. The owner had ensured we had food on arrival, coffee, tea, milk and sugar, plus a cream tea and a box of chocolates. Lots of great pubs near by plus some amazing cliff top walks. Couldn't have been happier would recommend to friends and family and certainly go back again.
Recently enjoyed a great week (6-13 Aug) in Shipload Cottage with my wife, 2 teenage kids and our one-year old Labrador. I can honestly say this was one of the best rental properties we have holidayed in. Met by Martin on arrival to show us where everything was. Extremely well equipped, wi-if that actually works (which like it or not is pretty much the number one requirement of the kids) and access to a shared utility area with a washing machine, tumble dryer and extra freezer space. We arrived to flowers in the kitchen, homemade scones (with homemade jam and clotted cream), a bottle of wine (we were even asked our preference for red or white before arrival), a box of chocolates and some basics to get us going (including milk, tea, coffee, washing-up liquid, etc.).
Cottage is located on a quiet and peaceful farm just outside the village of Hartland and is alongside two other rental cottages as well as the owner's house. Easy access to the Devon coastal path and some lesser known but really beautiful beaches (there is a picture of 9 beaches on the kitchen wall and we managed to get to 5 of them - need to go back at some point to do the other 4). Short drive to some of the more popular surfing beaches both in Devon and Cornwall. Lots of information in the cottage on where to eat, where to shop and places to visit (Nearby Clovelly is definitely to be recommended).
Lovely cottage, excellent facilities in a very peaceful location. The cottage was very well equipped, comfortable, spotlessly clean with the added advantage of a second bathroom. Very useful when we needed to be out in a hurry as with our trip to Lundy! It was nice to sit out on the patio with the only noise the wildlife. We felt especially welcome when we discovered the flowers, wine, chocolates and homemade scones! These thoughtful touches really do make a difference. Although the weather was not at its best this didn't detract from a super holiday in a super cottage! Just wish we could have stayed longer! I can thoroughly recommend Shipload Cottage.
I have travelled a lot and I can honestly say that Shipload Cottage was the nicest cottage that I have stayed in. Martin the manager does an amazing job looking after the cottages and making your stay very comfortable. Upon arrival it took my breath away, the scenery is beautiful with lots of wildlife and we were greeted with a bottle of wine, and scones. The cottage is very well equipped, clean, cosy and warm and there are many coastal walks on your doorstep.. Hartland has a couple of convenience shops and a couple pubs which is only a five minute drive away and there is also the lighthouse at Hartland Quay which is a stunning walk looking right out to the sea. If it is a quiet break you are looking for and you like amazing walks then this is definitely for you and thank you Martin for making our stay so special.
