Our family of 5 stayed here for a long weekend with extended family who stayed on Lake Nantahala. The house is beautiful, comfortable, and well-appointed for a relaxing stay. It IS up a very narrow, at times steep road but the view and quiet are so worth it. The wifi is not strong enough for doing telework, but for a vacation it is adequate. Highly recommend for groups. The main bedroom is a loft but has a gorgeous view out of the wall of windows in the living room.
John and Melissa's NC chalet was well appointed, clean and charming. Our stay was a relaxing mini vacation and our hosts thought of everything right down to a welcome gift and bath soaps (shower cap too). Great communication with both John and Melissa and a beautiful family reunion for us.
The Chalet was everything we had hoped for!! Very clean, great location and very homey. The pool table, swing, arcade game and hot Tub⊠my goodness- it was AWESOME!! Thank you to our Host- John!
We really enjoyed the cabin and location of the property. Truly left like a getaway! Everything was clean and updated. The layout and bedding work great for the group.
The property was very peaceful and there was plenty to do both inside and out. The rope swing was to die for. Comfortable beds and everything we need for cooking. Would definitely recommend and come again!
The cabin was very nice! The mountains were amazing.
Was very easy renting the cabin and communicating with the property manager was good. John answered back right away when we had questions! Thank you for a nice trip! Being in the mountains was beautiful!!
We had a great time visiting family in the Nantahala Lake area. Lots of awesome scenery, water activities and hiking to keep us busy. Our spacious cabin was very clean and nicely decorated, the owners were pleasant and helpful, and the views were to die for! We had everything we needed for a relaxing family vacation. Can't wait to go again next year!
Our weekend at Bear Chalet was the perfect getaway for our family. The house was very clean. The Mountain views were amazing! The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed and more. We loved exploring the area around the house, including the rope swing! Communication was excellent with the owner.
If we decide to venture back to the Topton area, we will definitely stay at Bear Chalet again. Thanks John!
This is our second time at this property, as we love it.. beautiful Mountain View, beautiful cabin, my kids LOVED the tire swing and acrcade/pool table and the adults enjoyed the hot tub! There is so much room in the cabin to spread out, great for multiple families! Just a few minute drive to a great cafe and boating activities on the water!! Host was great and got back to you quick! Thanks John.
Stayed at this property for a long weekend getaway with friends. The property was more than spacious enough to accommodate all of us. John was always available with a quick phone call to answer any questions we may have had. The cabin is perfectly located for day trips to Asheville and the Smoky Mountains, but still secluded enough for some well needed R&R. The lake itself is amazing. If you want to hit the lake for an afternoon of boating or kayaking, the Lake End marina down the street was awesome and staffed by some of the friendliest people I've ever met. Would definitely stay again
A very charming and comfortable mountain home. Ideal for families and a true get away.
Very clean and well appointed. We had everything we needed to be comfortable and to enjoy some quiet time in the mountains. Kids loves the swing, pool table, arcade and board games. Parents loved the deck, the hot tub and the view of the mountains. Directions are accurate just need to follow them and not rely on GPS. Lots do do in the area including boating on the lake, whitewater rafting and a nearby trout farm!
I highy recommend this place and appreciate Johns prompt attention through the process.
This cabin was fabulous...from the view to the cleanliness and the entertainment it provided. It was dark when we arrived, so we were surprised/delighted when we woke up the next morning and saw the view.
It was perfect for my children ages 8 & 19- we spent many hours playing pool and old school video games. The kitchen had plenty of pots/pans and other items any cook would need. Can't wait to go back again soon. BTW...our favorite was the rope swing by the cabin- not sure if it belonged to this cabin or not but we had a blast.
Our family loved this property. It is very secluded and private which is great for us, you can only see one other house and no one was there the whole week. Hot tub was great for sunset views and kids loved the big rope swing. The view from the master loft early morning was great, it's like being in a big tree house. House was very clean. Roads are steep but well maintained and once you get close to house drive and parking is level. No complaints at all with property, house was well stocked with everything we needed. The owners communication was top notch and he even went above and beyond and let us adjust our stay forward by one night due to a death in the family since the house wasn't booked that night, we are very grateful for that, thanks again for everything!
Bear Rock Chalet was a very clean, pretty property and very secluded. We enjoyed our family time together there. The pool table, hot tub and tree swing were nice extras for sure. It would have been nice for my parents if there was a chair in their loft room upstairs as there was no seating anywhere other than the bed and toilet. Make sure to plan ahead for all food, vehicle gasoline, etc. as everything is a good distance away. Low profile vehicles need to be cautious as the sides of the road have eroded a bit in areas making the center higher. Everything in the cabin was in excellent condition. The owner seemed extremely nice and prompt in answering questions. Overall, I highly recommend the property.
My wife and two kids, along with my mother, and my sister and her husband/daughter enjoyed our stay at Bear Rock! This was our first time to this area and we loved it!
The Cabin- For our two families, it worked out great. The basement/gameroom level has a kitchen, bath, and bedroom that worked out great for us. The main level was large enough for all of us to hang out/eat/relax. The whole house was very clean, and nicely decorated. You have a beautiful view of the mountains and plenty of privacy. The tree swing was the favorite part for the kids. And communication from Melissa(the owner) was wonderful. We plan to rent from them again.
The area- We enjoyed the Lake alot! It is very clear and was offered lots of access. We brought some paddle boards and were glad we did, as it was hard to get ahold of anyone from the marina(slow season this time of year). We visited the town of Franklin(which as nice), as well as Rose Creek mine, which the kids loved.
Overall Great Stay!
The cabin, the lake, the area are all five stars! John is a great communicator! He gave perfect directions and the cabinâs description was spot on! The peacefulness that you feel after decompressing from your ride is beyond explanation! The roadâs are winding for us Floridians, but the end is worth it!
I made a horrible mistake in planning and thought weâd booked one additional day/ night on our stay. I contacted John as soon as I realized it. He said heâs never had that happen before! I felt horrible, but he quickly sent me an invoice for another night and we resolved it immediately. I was very appreciative that we were able to work it out! Bottom line, gorgeous location beautiful cabin, especially great hosts! Donât miss out on enjoying the lake. Make reservations early for a pontoon boat! You wonât regret it!
We enjoyed our stay. The log cabin itself is sparkling clean, with beautiful views and plenty of beds for 9 people to sleep comfortably. Communication with owner was fantastic.
My only concern is the drive up the mountain, and this is true for all homes on the mountain/lake, that you will have to drive up the steep gravel roads, and there are a number of blindspots along the shared mountain roads (caveat: some places have mirrors to help with blind spots but not all). We encountered cautious mountain drivers fortunately, who shared the road graciously - as only one car can pass at a time. If you are unaccustomed to these roads, a car with good tire traction or four wheel drive would help (though owner said is not necessary).
The nearest grocery store is not far in distance but takes awhile to get to due to the curvy mountain roads, so plan accordingly.
Be sure to follow the ownerâs directions exactly as you will need them to find your way to the chalet (no cell service on the mountain but wifi at the house is good).
Nonetheless, we loved the hot tub, satellite tv, the silence and the spacious cabin itself. Everything is easy to find in the kitchen as all cupboards are labeled - makes clean up so easy! Thanks for a restful stay in such a beautiful natural setting!
My wife, Melissa, and I are both native Floridians. We own a floor covering business and live in Central Florida. We have three amazing children and have spent many wonderful times with them in our mountain home.
We don't think you will find more incredible and beautiful long-range mountain views anywhere in the area. Sitting in our rockers or soaking in our hot tub while taking in those views in the quiet and peaceful surroundings is simply a little taste of heaven.
