We spent a lovely week at Buckland. The house and garden are beautiful and spacious. We were unlucky that it rained through the roof which was an outstanding repair not yet completed. But this didnât compromise our stay.
12 family members together for a week. A few issues as always but generally things ran smoothly. The accommodation was ideal and the location was good apart from having to navigate narrow lanes to reach everywhere. The weather was great apart from one day allowing us to enjoy the area and the gardens of the property.
Comms were great prior to arrival
Property was ideal for large family gathering + 2 dogs - plenty of space, with very large enclosed front garden
Location is two miles from the beach - roads are very narrow thru Slapton village
A really wonderful property, very spacious and an amazing garden and grounds. Plenty of room for everyone to eat together and the games room provided lots of entertainment. A perfect location to see South Devon and visit some beaches and neighbouring pretty towns. Richard was brilliant with his communication. Iâd highly recommend this property.
Huge house with massive beautiful grounds. Was a shame that is rained throughout our trip but it didnât matter as the house was big enough to accommodate. Could do with a little bit of updating, but this wasnât a problem. We loved the bar billiards table!
Really enjoyed our time, and Devon is a lovely place to stay.
Thank you x
Great house for large groups in fantastic location
We stayed here for a family birthday party in October half term,. We were 8 adults, 5 teenagers and 2 children and there was plenty of room for everyone. Lots of bathrooms, huge garden (although this is shared with some other cottages on site, so do be aware of that), two reception rooms as well as a conservatory and a very welcome games room with bar billiards. It was lovely that all the adults and teenagers could fit round the dining table in the kitchen and eat together. The house is well supplied with all amenities and was spotless on our arrival. The decor is slightly dated, but for a large gathering of people it did the job brilliantly. It was also in a fantastic location: short drive to glorious beaches. Richard was incredibly helpful and swift to answer our queries and requests. All in all would thoroughly recommend.
A bit surprised when I came across lots of dead small flies in conservatory on window sill. Lots of room for everyone. Good place for a family get together. Certain areas could do with some attention, but overall, a good experience.
It was very spacious. It does need updating, but having said that we didnât have to keep telling kids âdonât touch â the only criticism is that there is a distinct lack of mirrors with electric sockets nearby.
Beautiful old fashions traditional house. Very spacious! Lots of room for the kids and adults. The grounds were amazing - so much space including lots of fruit tress too.
Richard was brilliant, we even had a new vacuum delivered next day when the old one broke.
This is a beautiful property, as an old building donât expect anything too lavish and modern. The property would really benefit from a very deep clean but that would be my only slightly negative point. Weâd definitely visit again.
Everyone loved this house and the beautiful extensive gardens and surrounding countryside. We had breakfast outside in the sun nearly every day! There were plenty of rooms and alternative places to eat/play games/get some space. Getting about along the single track roads was a bit daunting until we got used to it. Expect it to take longer than planned to get anywhere, but there are plenty of beautiful beaches and places to visit not too far away. We were sad to come home and leave the house!
The property was ideal for our family holiday (8 adults plus 6 children). The property had everything we needed for the stay and was well situated for local attractions.
I am Richard Smith I live in England our children having now grown up. I spend most of my spare time & holidays at Buckland, where the family enjoy developing the house, cottages & garden to improve the holidaying experience for our guests. The large gardens are a joy to work in with some unusual plants due to the very warm summers with mild winters. We have really fallen in love with the South Hams
Having holidayed here as a teenager, learning to sail and canoe on the river Dart my wife and I wanted to have a holiday base in the area for our young family. We looked to create a family friendly holiday home and first bought property at Buckland in 1988. The areas beauty and opportunities for youngsters to enjoy water sports together with the pace of life in the South Hams convinced us this was the right place. It is a joy working to improve the house and develop the large gardens and so we have plenty of experience in holidaying with young children and looking after guests!
