A great house with stunning views, heaven!

We wanted a relaxing base for a familly wedding, we got that and so much more! The house easilly accomodated the 9 of us and while the description could not be faulted, we also benefitted from the 2 brand new bathrooms which are a great addition. Arranging it all with Laurence was a breeze, he even accomodated us wanting to extend our stay by an extra day. Bread, cheese and a chilled bottle of wine were a lovely welcoming touch and much appreciated. Pujols is a lovely little village with some stunning views. The bells from the church next door provide the wake up call (7am), time for a short walk up the hill to pick up bread and croissants. The bells chime throughout the day ( no need for a watch!) but you quickly get used to them and they add to the charm. Getting everyone going before the heat of the day is also no bad thing! Lunch at Chez Sylvie is a must (so good we did it 3 times!), with a short stroll back down the hill and an afternoon next to the pool, the perfect lazy day! You need a car to explore the area but the roads are quiet and the supermarket only 10 minutes away. We got to see some of the area as part of the wedding celebrations, wine tasting in St Emillion and caneoing on the Dordogne, all just a short drive away. It is a lovely area and we want to come back and explore more. The Old School House is a perfect base and we would certainly stay there again.

Simply Stunning

The Old School House situated in Pujols just minutes from the Dordogne is simply stunning; sitting at the top of the hill with wonderful views of grape vines and woodland as far as the eye can see. This is an excellent choice for those looking for a peaceful haven away from the stresses of daily life. The eloquent property description of the old school house is spot on and can be trusted for its accuracy. The property is very well maintained, clean and welcoming. The kitchen in particular is extensively equipped with high quality goods in excellent condition. Having stayed in quite a few properties throughout France, we found it refreshing that this property was not too personalised by the owners. Whilst it was very homely you did not feel as though you were staying in someone elses home. This was evident too with the arms length but easy access to the owners - if you wanted it. Alot of thought and experience had been applied throughout the entire booking, arrival and post holiday period - the owners are very customer focused - quick to respond to enquiries and always professional. The instructions prepared for our arrival were clear and very helpful and with sound recommendations for local restaurants and places to visit. High spots of our holiday was the quality of the School House with a special note for the courtyard with the fabulous pool and covered eating area. Add to this the beautiful countryside and our holiday was simply stunning. We had a wonderful holiday and confidently recommend this property to others!

Hillside high note.

This property has lots of character. The views are glorious especially the afternoon sunsets. The property was well catered for. We prefered this proximaty to St Emillion, in a quiter rural village. However it is just a quick drive and you are able to enjoy all the wonderful restaurants and wine estate for which St Emillion is famous for. Perfect for a family or family & friends for a relaxed holiday.

Rustic old schoolhouse/farmhouse in great location. Has everything you need in a location with vineyards all around. Lovely Abbey next door with bells hourly (except during sleeping hours) - quaint and not too loud. On edge of town of Pujols - sleepy town with one nice restaurant. Beautiful views!! Owner communicates well. For an off the beaten path holiday, this was fantastic!!

Picturesque family stay at the old schoolhouse

The house had lots of character and beautiful views from the top of the hill. It's right next to an old church which is worth visiting, but fair warning- the bells go off very loudly every morning at 7am and periodically throughou the day which wasn't super fun to discover. The village is full of charm and close to the larger Saint Emillion and Castillon, and there's a big supermarket nearby. We enjoyed the proximity to Lac de la Cadie which is great for swimming and picnics and only 3 euros for entry. The rooms at the house were spacious and the beds very comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped and the outdoor area was cosy and perfect for dinners. The swimming pool was enjoyable and the pool robot cleaner was a nice touch. It offers lots of privacy and space, and overall was a great place to relax, overlooking all the vineyards and chateaux. We were pleased to find that there were automatic hand sanitising dispensers provided as well. Only minor drawback was the amount of cowbebs and insects in the house when we arrived- the house was generally clean but hadn't been dusted probably since the last guests stayed. We recommend bringing plug ins or citronella candles to help ward off the mosquitoes and critters!

Wonderful

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Pujols and our stay at the Old Schoolhouse. The westward evening views over the bucolic countryside to the sunsets were truly divine. On those few evenings when the weather did not allow us to enjoy the garden, we found cozy solace from the wood burning stove in the living room, accompanied by a glass (or two) of the local wine. Laurence and his onsite team were great! Highly recommend.

Perfect, charming setting for family reunion!

Our family lives all over the world so each year we meet up for our annual get together... this year in the beautiful surroundings of The Old School House. A quaint, idyllic setting like something out of a provincial movie, we had a truly fantastic time in this unique property (with views of surrounding vineyards and sunflower fields)!! Bike rides, wine tasting, canoeing, peaceful walks and lots of food were among the activities we enjoyed. Would recommend!

True French character, great for larger groups and families, excellent pool

We've just returned from a stay here in Pujols, and really enjoyed this property. It has plenty of space for up to 10 people - would be ideal for a couple of families holidaying together. There were 6 of us and we wanted 4 bedrooms and there was ample space here. Parking was very easy outside the property (car absolutely essential), and easy to access with very good communication from the owner. It had everything we needed for our stay, beds were clean and comfortable, good sized kitchen. Yes, it is next to the Abbey, which means that you have stunning views but also that you are woken at 7am with the ringing of the bells (didn't bother us, but you do need to be aware that they ring every hour up to about 10pm). The pool was excellent, a good size - a bit cold for me, but the kids were hardy and used it every day, even though the May weather was very changeable and we had some impressive thunderstorms. The village is very, very quiet- has a good shop and local restaurant but only open during the day mon-fri. Pujols is a good base for exploring the region, but you do need to get out and about if the weather is dodgy. We explored St Emilion, Bordeaux, Bergerac, Eymet and visited a couple of Chateau's (Chateau de Bridoire was a favourite of the kids). All we would have liked would have been more sunshine - but hey, you can't guarantee that in May.

Beautiful house in peaceful & stunning location

This is a one of a kind property! A beautiful old schoolhouse full of charm and character with simply stunning views. We actually couldn't believe how spectacular the sunsets were! The house was extremely comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. The two rooms off the pool that were recently refurbished were really lovely with great bathrooms/showers. There was nothing nicer than opening the wooden shutters in the morning and looking down over the vineyards. Followed by a stroll up to the local shop where Didier had taken our order for fresh croissants for our stay. We spent many happy days by the pool and evenings on the terrace. Laurence was extremely helpful providing information in advance and during our stay. We had lunch twice at Chez Sylvie in the village which was delicious (go for the menu du jour) La Mounan in Castillion was a great spot for dinner. We also enjoyed a fabulous long lunch in La Poudette on our last day where the owners couldn't have been more accommodating. We were spoiled for choice in terms of Chateaux nearby and of course St Emillion. Highlights for the kids (aside from the fabulous pool) were kayaking on the Dordogne from Pessac. They also loved doing the tour of the underground monolithic church in St Emillion. And they enjoyed swimming (and trampolining) at Lac de la Cadie for a change of scenery. There is a brilliant supermarket just 15 minutes away in Castillion. And of course fabulous markets. We went to a night market in Blassimon on the recommendation of Jan the caretaker (thank you!) which was amazing fun. I loved that it was so quiet and peaceful (you get used to the bells!) and you could be as active or not as you choose. If you are looking for an authentic, beautiful and relaxing holiday then this is the place for you.

Absolutely lovely

we stayed here for a week in August and it was a lovely experience for all of us - peaceful and relaxing. The house and courtyard have been beautifully restored and are tasteful and comfortable spaces to spend time in. We were reluctant to move from there and when we did we didn't venture too far but highly recommend Chez Sylvie in the village for lunch and the local lake for a change of scene and a swim. Down the hill is La Poudette where we had two of the most stunning meals, particularly lunch in the garden - the hostess, Sophie (I think), is friendly and helpful and the food is superb. Back to the house: Laurence is so easy to deal with and patient with all enquiries. Some guests have mentioned the abbey bells and we would like it on record that they are a wonderful, mellow and atmospheric aural backdrop to a very special place. It wouldn't be the same without the bells!! Thank you Laurence, we hope to return soon.

Enjoyable location & villa for a family holiday

5 adults, 1 child & 2 Bulldogs had a very enjoyable stay at The Old School House. The pool was chilly as it was late September but still used most days. The villa had everything we needed. Laurence was very helpful & full of information about the area. The views from the windows were really good & great sunsets. The village was very pleasant as were all the local people. Plenty to see & do in the area. Excellent & relaxing holiday.

Beautifully done in a perfect setting

We absolutely loved this place. The owner Laurence was extremely accommodating of our last minute booking and provided lots of information on the house and the area. He also opened the pool early for us because the weather was so good! The house has been done beautifully with a big living room and bedroom. The kitchen has everything you need and we even had a chilled bottle of white wine waiting for us when we arrived. The surrounding vineyards and Abbey make for a stunning setting and with the elevated position, you see some amazing sunsets. We sat in the garden and enjoyed some sundowners. The shop is just a few minutes down the road by foot and so perfect for picking up your morning baguette and croissants. Hopefully we will get the chance to stay here again.

Lovely Old Schoolhouse

Just back from a lovely fortnight spent staying at the lovely Old Schoolhouse. The property has bags of character and has a homely feel as opposed to a typical holiday let. We arrived late on the Saturday night, after the local supermarket closed, and we were very grateful for the provisions that had been left for us that saw us comfortably through to morning! The house has lots of rustic French charm, and the bedrooms are comfortable and cool. The kitchen is really well equipped and although the bathroom is a little dated, is perfectly acceptable. The pool area and covered cloister area are great and we spent a lot of time relaxing and dining here. The Abbey is near the property and you do hear the bells, but it wasn't a problem for us, and certainly wouldn't put us off booking again! Pujols is a sleepy village, the local restaurant Chez Sylvie is worth a visit, although mainly open for lunch only. La Poudette at the bottom of the hill was a real treat, the food was fantastic! I would definitely recommend St Emillion for a visit, although, as long as you can manage the c. 1/2 mile walk uphill, I would suggest parking at the train station just in the right hand side on the way in and walking up as it can get extremely busy and tricky to negotiate by car! The owner was really helpful and there are plenty if handy notes covering all aspects of the house and staying there. We hope to return soon to this lovely property.

Perfect Setting for a relaxing holiday

We have had the most relaxing time at the Old School House. The setting is stunning and the views over the Dordogne are mesmerising. The house is perfect, it has everything you could need and more! We took 2 dogs with us and the enclosed pool area was perfect for them with a great shaded area. The owner couldn't have been more helpful with all our questions before, on arrival and also during our stay and was always prompt with their replies. I have stayed in many self-catering villa's/ apartments over the years and this one comes out on top. Thank you for making our holiday a very special one to remember.

Lovely relaxed holiday

We cannot recommend this property or the owner enough...beautiful house and pool - well maintained and in a charming French rural village. We stayed for 2 weeks and had a great, relaxing, interesting, delicious time! The owner answered questions by email and provided lots of info before we arrived. The house was extremely clean and comprehensively equipped. A genuine old school house with some quirky features and an immaculate new pool area. We went in October and couldn't believe the weather - perhaps we were lucky!

The Old Schoolhouse

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Old Schoolhouse in Pujols. The owners were very helpful and full of information in advance of our stay which helped us to prepare, especially as we had an 8 month old baby in tow! The house was fully equipped with everything you could possibly want including cot, high chair and bath for our baby. The reason for our stay in the area was a wedding and the Old Schoolhouse was right next door to the beautiful Eglise Notre Dame where the wedding ceremony was held - very convenient. Overall, this was an excellent place to relax and enjoy and we hope to return someday.

We live on the West Coast of Scotland among the mountains and beside the loch. It's a sensational location - but sometimes we find it a little wet and cold. The climate, culture and style of the south of France is compelling! As a family of 7 (youngest is 14 and oldest is 28), our French home needed to fulfill a wide range of criteria, and The Old School House hit the spot. - it's large and spacious, and seems to always expand to take more family and friends. - there is lots to explore, to do and to see right on the doorstep. jogging and cycling is fantastic - there is night life in towns, not too far away - the property has two old classrooms, yet to be refurbished (another project in the wings)!

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?

Having spent some time holidaying in different locations around the South of France, we decided we would like a base of our own. The Gironde was our instinctive target: we love the rolling countryside and the beauty of the vineyards and the villages. It has a remote, unspoilt charm and is "real" - the whole area is deeply agricultural and the land is worked. The wide range of majestic wines are an attraction (there are remarkable bargains to be had), plus the fabulous local ingredients and good food all around. Importantly, it's also so easy to get to. A quick drive from Bordeaux airport with so many low-cost flights, and the option of Bergerac, too. Plus, public transport to the door if we want it. Simply a wonderful location!

Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?

This is a very special location, and the pictures show how we are endlessly mesmerised by the views, the panoramas from the windows and the wonders created by this elevated position. It's also a great pleasure being in a home with age and character; there are many features of the Ancienne Ecole that remain and this building clearly played an important part in the village during the 1900's. Whilst the sensation is that the house sits amongst the vineyards, the village is just on the doorstep and being able to walk to the bakery is a fundamental part of each day. Then there is something magical about having the old Abbey next door, and waking to the gentle chimes of ancient bells . . . .
