We had a very nice, relaxing stay at The Barn. The property is very spacious with a nice outdoor space for enjoying the peace and quiet and views of the surrounding nature. The kitchen contains everything one needs, including large gas stove and oven for cooking and there is an outdoor charcoal grill. There are some minor quirks to the build given the age of the building, but that comes with the old country house charm. There were some problems with wifi during our stay but the owner was quick to respond and sort out with the Telco provider. Since we were traveling around the area during the day and had mobile data packages it didn't detract from enjoying our stay. Overall we loved the Dordogne region and really enjoyed our stay at The Barn.... we would definitely stay again!
Our stay rates 5 stars! House is charming and charmingly idiosyncratic, beautifully furnished (but not over-furnished), clean to a T, and more than well appointed â modern, functioning stove, fridge, showers, etc. Beds comfortable, linens clean and crisp. We even had a lovely bouquet of flowers on the kitchen table to greet us! All in all, it was better than the listing description. And Souillac is only 10 minutes away.If you have the opportunity to spend a week or so there, take it: just to sit on the terrace under the walnut tree looking out over the fields as you sip a pastis in the late afternoon is worth what you'll spend... We'd go back tomorrow if we could!
Originell ausgebaute Scheuer in traumhafter Umgebung
Upon arrival we found the property to be spotlessly clean, comfortable and very attractive. The barn was the perfect place to explore the region - castles, gardens, markets, caves, 13th century mill built by monks...and at the end of each day a glass of wine as we discussed our outings. One week was not enough; next time we plan to spend more time "at home", walking, lounging and enjoying the serene beauty of this amazing place.
Staying in this beautiful Barn was a dream come true, I have always loved the concept of a barn conversion and to experience this well designed artistically executed property was a delight. The place was immaculate and super clean on arrival, every detail had been catered for. We stayed for a week in January and enjoyed cosy evenings around a roaring log fire. The owner is so helpful down to the last degree when organising the holiday and her staff could not have been more pleasant. This area of the Dordoigne is a firm favourite with my family, we have been visiting for the past twenty five years. Staying in the Barn just exceeded all our expectations and gave us a new level of enjoyment. Thank you.
There is always a special pleasure for those who travel frequently, when we find that everything we hoped we would find is as described yet well beyond our expectations. The Barn is one such place! Immaculate spacious facilities with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. Despite the excellent photographs and descriptions of the barn what can't be described is the deep satisfaction the ambience and design of this place provides your soul. So rare in this age to step back into that warm feeling of waking up in the morning as a child on a summer day new fresh and happy. Spectacular in the most simple fashion.

I am a very active Francophile, designer, photographer and a teacher. I try to spend as much time as possible in France, in my beloved stone barn. I renovated the barn from scratch. Dirt floors, stone walls! It was a great learning experience It firmly 'cemented' the area in my heart. I love the barn. It is my spiritual home. It is filled with light and is very calming. Nothing makes me happier than to spend time there. Everyone who enters comments on the calming quality of the place; this without any prompting from me. You can walk to the Dordogne or bike along its shores directly from the house. Two towns are within minutes to supply you with everything you need, including two weekly markets. The area close to the barn abounds in things to explore and discover. Sunsets! Come and see!
I had visited the region regularly since 1983 and was completely taken with it. The pure simplicity and natural beauty spoke to me. I have friends in the region who have been there for over 40 years, so I was immediately immersed in vrai France, one filled with the everyday lifestyle of the French. This had a big influence on me and continues to this day. I love the area because I love being outdoors. I spend most of my free time hiking with friends and punctuating the hikes with either great picnics or terrific well deserved lunches out. There is so much to see! The biking is also stellar and not too difficult. The area appears remote and has many remote qualities but has every amenity one could hope for. The markets continue to thrill me, and I never miss a visit to one.
Serenity and Respite! Hiking, biking, canoeing, markets, gardens, history, vide greniers, cooking, outings with friends, Met HD opera 20 minutes away in Sarlat! All modern conveniences within 10 minutes of the house, yet the house is a world away. The house is designed in a very open plan so that there is lots of light and privacy yet open space through out. There are fabulous gardens and incredible towns and villages to visit, all easily accessed from the house. And when one returns in the early evening, nothing satisfies like a glass of cold rose, while sitting on the terrace enjoying the private view of the hidden valley.
