My Dad and I came here to relax and fish. It was the perfect place to do that. The owners were wonderful and went out of their way to make us comfortable. Would stay here again in a second!
The overall trip and stay were wonderful. It was perfect for my friends to have a quiet get away. My only issue was that were items not mentioned in the listing that were important and a few mislabeled descriptions. 1. There only a 5gallon hot water tank. With 3 people, we had to be strategic in our showers. 2. There is no oven. Amenities Listing stated âovenâ and later âtoaster ovenâ which I didnât catch3. The wood burning stove is no longer usableAll that said, the cottage is quaint and quiet. Perfect for a relaxing time away and I would stay again
The cabin was teh perfect get away location. It's set in a picturesque wooded setting that seems off the beaten path but really isn't. I was pleasantly surprised at how close everything was to the cabin. The cabin is the perfect size for 1 or 2 people and the location is perfect for a relaxing and peaceful get away. Thanks for a wonderful stay, Nancy!
This cozy cabin is the perfect place to get away and unwind. It had everything we needed for our three nights stay. The beds upstairs were very comfortable. There were coffee, bottled water, and snacks available on our arrival. The Hosts were very responsive to questions and very helpful. The cabin was clean and tidy. We liked the privacy of this location. There was a wonderful view of the river, with a path that takes you right down to the river's edge. I would highly recommend this place!
We came to this lovely cabin for a week long "working" getaway. What a wonderful place, quiet, beautiful, peaceful and rejuvenating! Perfect for what we were looking for! Everything you need for a getaway. Perfect hosts, wonderful surroundings and many things to do and see around town or even just sitting in on the front porch doing nothing. Really enjoyed our stay!
Hilltop Cottage is a lovely retreat in a beautiful area in Calvert County, Southern MD. It is located on a heavily wooded site uphill from the main house along a wide expanse of the Patuxent River.
The cottage is well appointed and cozy. It is perfect for two people. The loft sleeping area is a little tight and we did hit our heads on the ceiling a few times. WiFi was good. Couldnât get the TV to work, but we enjoyed the sounds of birds and the trees rustling, so it wasnât a big deal.
Itâs very close to Solomons Island, Jefferson Patterson Park, Calvert Cliffs and other local attractions. Enjoyed hiking in The American Chestnut Land Trust area.
Nancy and Kent were gracious hosts and we enjoyed speaking with them while sitting outside along the river near their home. Gorgeous views from a bluff. They offer the use of a single person kayak.
We definitely hope to return.
We really enjoyed our stay at Hilltop. Between the view of the water, trees all around, and a family of deer that we spotted on the first night, it was the perfect remedy to a stressful move. The inside of the cabin is really cozy and had everything that we needed including good wifi, a fridge, stove and toaster oven. There's also a wood-burning stove that you need express permission and instructions to use so we didn't get around to using it but it really added to the charm of the property. The only negative for us was the limited water heater; we had to take short, on-and-off showers so as not to blow right through its five-gallon tank, lest the next person need to wait an hour.
This was a wonderful get away, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The property was exactly what was listed. The Mountfords we very gracious and accommodating. The value of the cost per night was exceptional. I definitely hope to have return visits, and I have been telling family, friends & colleagues about Hilltop.
Kent and Nancy Mountford are marine biologists who have lived on this 20 acre property for over 30 years. Kent is the author of several books and many newspaper columns about the Chesapeake Bay. Nancy grows orchids in her greenhouse on the property and at her nursery in the Dominican Republic.
This cottage was fixed up as a guest house for friends and family and we would like to share it on a short term basis with guests who need a place to stay for a stop over type during a short job or a woodland vacation.
Very quiet, private on the south side of St Leonard's creek. Watch the deer feed in the orchard field below the cottage. Close to Solomons Island, the Calvert Cliffs State park.
