This is a decent stay. Location for Hessel and Cedarville is perfect. The pics donât do the home justice as itâs much roomier than what you think. Perfect for a family as there is a nice size living with an open floor plan to the kitchen area. Then there is a good sized room beside that with a ping pong table for others to gather. The house needs a little TLC, but nothing is an obstacle. There is also a real nice separate apartment behind the garage for two people that is done real nice. A perfect little getaway for guest who donât want to sleep in the main house. We used it for command central for a wedding. We were able to cook and store a ton of food for the wedding. Large fridge and freezer is excellent. It was perfect for what we needed. We had family stop in and out as they arrived in town and everyone loved the setting. Enough room for a few people to drop in and change cloths for the wedding and continue on. We would stay here again and recommend to others with no concerns. Host was excellent and attentive. Thanks so much for a great stay!
Its a nice home on the water. It was perfect for our group. It is dog and family friendly. Very cute place. Good communication with the host. The extra guest house was nice for privacy.
This is an older house but was clean and comfortable. Anne, the host, was easy to communicate with and even stopped over to help us get the Lions game on TV! Easy walk to the Hessel Marina and restaurants. Would stay here again.
A lovely property ! Having a dock was wonderful with having our boat . Quick walk to town . My parents stayed in the room connected to garage and they loved it . Will book again in future ! Very private location .
We enjoyed the location and the space. Beautiful views and an easy walk to Hessel. Anne was helpful and promptly answered my questions. Great space - large table and enough seating areas for a large family. The kitchen was well supplied with pots and pans and dishes. There also was a nice grill to use.
A few minor repairs needed but overall we would rent this place again.
This property is great for a family or a group of friends. My husband and I stayed in the bonus room we had our 3 kids and mother in law. It was nice to be able to have extra privacy. It was super convenient to have a dock if you like kayaking or boating. My boys fished every free moment they had.
Clearly, this property is not ready for guests. It is over-priced and misrepresented. The studio bedroom/bath did not have curtains, they were laying in a box on the floor. The sink water was not turned on, light bulbs were burned out, and the room in general was unsettled. In the main house, the refrigerator has a serious leak issue, the ice maker does not function, and the dishwasher does not work. Both coffee pots were moldy inside. There was a used towel left hanging on the bathroom door.We ran out of hot water, and the "self-contained" fence area had big gaps at the bottom so was not safe to leave our dog. On a positive note: the main living area has a beautiful stone fireplace. The property has potential, just needs attention. The view of the lake is beautiful.
The host was nice, I did message her the day of check-in with a few complaints/suggestions. She didn't respond and I didn't push it. I messaged her again after check-out and she responded she would notify her cleaner of certain things. We definitely left it cleaner than we received it. It is pet friendly, so a little dog hair was expected, however there was a lot and clumps of it in corners, dead bugs and food on pots and pans and counters (I get it bugs are up north, but we vacation north all the time and never had anything like this). Dirty towels in the bath off the garage and also it wasn't until after booking we were informed the shower in the room off the Garage didn't work. The smell when we first got there was strong, it was a musty almost mold like smell. Definitely needed aired out. There were a few windows where the screens had fallen out and were laying in the yard so my husband fixed those so we could open the windows. The lawn wasn't mowed and the poop had not been cleaned up from the previous travelers pets. Overall we would not stay at this location again especially to have to clean it before use at their nightly rate.
However, the setting is beautiful, and the town is great!
We enjoyed the views and tranquility of the property. It is evident that the hosts are working to update the space and while there is some work yet to do, so far have done a nice job. The new beds are very comfy and the lake house vibe they have created is cozy and inviting. During our 3 day stay, we visited St. Ignace, Sault Ste. Marie, and Tahquamenon falls. Each location was a good distance for a day trip. Greg and Anne were great to work with and we hope to book with them again in the future.
We had a great stay boating every day!!
Nice having a dock to use. Campfire every night great burning wood available to use!!
Walking distance to town enjoyed the annual boat show!! Eagles , Blue herons,
various ducks. Awesome view. We would stay here again!!!
The porch and water view were outstanding. A very peaceful stay.
I did not realize access to the water in front of the house would be so difficult. We brought a kayak and sup. There was lot of growth at the waters edge and no platform. Water is very shallow in the cove and not swim able. Out side the cove the water was fine for swimming. Owner shared that the houses water had iron and that you may want to bring bottle water which I was glad we did. Shower had a strong iron scent and drying skin. There is a water softener for kitchen. Unfortunately it is very loud and ran at 3 am for a long time. Scared me and had trouble getting back to sleep. Not sure if it was musty or the water but the house had a scent. We were able to run fans and have windows open to air out.
We enjoyed the location and easy for some lovely hikes and bike rides. There were 2 of us but supposedly sleeps 10. For 2 people it seemed somewhat overpriced.
My sister and I vacationed with our teenage sons and one pup. This place was perfect for accommodating us! Plenty of space (and a ping pong table!). The yard had a picnic table and fire pit. The deck had lots of cushy seating. The dock was large and easily fit our 2 boats as well as low enough to get onto our paddle boards. The setting was very quiet and next to a small woods while close enough to town to walk to restaurants and shops, plus the farmers market on Sunday.
We grew up summering in LCI, so are familiar with all there is to do, but for anyone new to the area, there are abundant trails and scenery that will knock your socks off!
We had a great time and would have liked to stay longer!
The house was great for our family. The studio off the garage was a big plus. The wildlife in the area was fascinating, & the fishing was great. Sunset afterglow was amazing! Anne was very responsive & caring.
The cottage is located about a 5 minute walk to the Hessel Marina and is on a protected former mill pond which is connected to Lake Huron on to sides of an island south of the property. It was clean and had everything we needed for a week away. The pond was calm which was great for paddle boarding, views of a resident eagle visiting daily, and a heron fishing off the shore. Thanks for a great stay!
Loved everything about our stay. Beautiful view, comfortable beds, plenty of room, great location, cozy feel and everything we needed!! Plan on staying sometime again next year. Thanks for sharing your place!
dirty house, malfunctioning toilet and bathroom door.
The house it self would be very livable with a cleanup and a few minor fixes. The view is incredible.
The house was dirty when we arrived and the bathroom door malfunctioned trapping one of the people in there a couple of times even though we thought that we had it repaired.
One of the toilets had to be manually tampered with to get it to refill on occassion.
Good kitchen that had a good assortment of the supplies so our group, that was bird hunting all day could cook, then lay back watch some football or sit by a fire. Looking forwarding to doing it again.
We had a great 5 days with the location, we had 10 stay and there was plenty of room! Everything we needed was provided and the place was very comfortable! Thank you for letting us rent from you!!
Very nice location and nice property. Good communication with property owner. I wish some items where taken care of before we arrived but I would stay here again.
We stayed in this property in June 2021. We checked out two days early due to the condition of the home. Contrary to the âremodeled homeâ and âready for your vacation experienceâ description on VRBO, much of the home is dated, dirty, and in disrepair.
Some of the issues we experienced:
âą Ants all over the kitchen, on the floor near the sliding door in the main living area, and on carpet in room adjacent to kitchen.
âą Carpets stained and dirty throughout home.
âą Dishes, silverware, and cookware dirty in the cabinets, need washing before use, likely due to the poorly-functioning dishwasher.
âą A bed comforter was stained with blood (?) and other mystery stains. So too was a âcleanâ pillowcase put on a pillow on a made bed at check-in.
âą Many of the towels were stained and should not be provided to guests.
âą Above one of the showers is a large dark stain (mold?). Both bathrooms are dated with stained showers.
âą Dressers in the bedrooms are missing pull knobs. Dresser in master is missing so many that 2 of the 3 drawers are not useable without extraordinary effort.
âą The coat closet door at entrance is off its track and propped-up in closet.
âą The yard is not well-maintained and the fence has gaps. Barriers need to be placed along fence so that dog canât escape, an important detail omitted from the âfenced in side yardâ description on VRBO, especially for a property that accepts dogs.
âą Dryer is extremely dated and with a large brown stain in interior â perhaps source of mystery stains found on linens, comforter, and towels (?).
We contacted owner about the ant problem. She represented that she would come over the next day at 4:30 pm to place ant traps. Instead, she texted us the next day at 6:30 pm and asked if we still wanted the ant traps, and offered to drop them off the following day for us place around home. We asked her to come that night as promised to place them since we did not know where the ants were accessing the home. She did, but we still had ants for the remainder of our stay.
We did not contact the owner about the other issues because we did not want to spend our vacation dealing with the repairs and cleaning that should have been done prior to her accepting paying guests - such work should precede rental, and not interfere with tenant occupancy. If the owner chooses to rent the house âas is,â she should provide more robust disclosures regarding the propertyâs true condition so future tenants are not disappointed.
