We enjoyed our stay at the riverside house, it is true to its listing. The bedrooms being open to each other was fine with us, but definitely better for kids! When we arrived the house was a little dusty, like people hadnât been there in awhile & needed a little maintenance, as closet doors were broken and balcony door in the master does not lock easily. Overall, we had an excellent stay and loved Stowe!
The house was a good size for our family Christmas. The two living areas (large one upstairs with fireplace and cozier one downstairs) meant everyone could spread out and relax. The bedrooms were comfy, dining room had seating for everyone, kitchen was spacious and having a boots on/off area was really helpful.
The house is at a great location. Close to the mountain and Stowe Village. However, the bedroom set up is not ideal. Three of the bedrooms are connected with no wall for separation. The loft is connected to 2 other bedrooms. So for us, we were multiple couples/family with young children, it was very hard to figure out sleeping arrangements. Otherwise it is close to everything and fine stay.
We had a family ski trip at The River House . The house is perfectly located by a river with easy access to Stowe Village and close the ski resort . There is plenty of space and 2 living room areas. The kitchen is well equipped. The how lacks basic maintenance however. There was a large pantry door in kitchen fall off , which we ended up taping shut . The access to upper deck has no door handle and hand held shower in master bathroom tub does not work so you must shower elsewhere. There is no door to master bathroom, , just a makeshift curtain. Very uncomfortable and weird. . They did not remove trash from previous rentals and was overflowing in garage, so there was no.place to put our trash. They outside deck area was decorated with lots of dog poop from a rather large dog .we ended up leaving a night early because the dirt road became a quagmire of mud from warm thaw and we afraid we might not be able to get out the next morning.
Will return to Stowe, but will not stay at this home again.
Visited Stowe with 5 other women for a birthday trip. The location/size of this home was perfect, accessible to everything, big enough spaces for us to relax or eat together. The beds were also very comfortable!Other than that, we didnât have a great stay. The stove wasnât fully functional, kitchen essentials werenât well stocked, we had to purchase hand soap for the bathrooms, etc. In advance of our stay, we asked about firewood and was told by the property manager she wasnât sure if the home would have wood. Upon arrival, the house manual said there would be wood in the garage, but there wasnât. We spent approx. 100 on firewood only to find wood behind the house on our last day. We did share the above with the property manager after our stay and she said these issues would be addressed. The house also ran out of propane due to an error made by the propane company, so no heat or hot water for one evening in sub-freezing temps. We understand accidents happen but were surprised the property managerâs customer service wasnât better. She responded quickly but did not offer solutions if the propane company couldnât refill the tank that evening â space heaters, another rental, etc. and she wasnât able to tell us if the company had come after we left the house to go somewhere else to warm up. Luckily, when we returned to the property the propane company had come and our heat/hot water had been restored. After inquiring about compensation, the property manager refunded us 140.
This property was a great location for Stowe, has a great open concept living area, and a great upstairs living area with toys and games for the kids.
However, there are a couple things to be aware of that could be improved upon, and would prevent us from booking here again.
1. The queen bed in the loft overlooks TWO bedrooms. This is misleading in the property description. Coming here with kids and friends, we needed to make a sleeping arrangement plan ahead of time, and this realization did ruin our plan. The open loft, and therefore, essentially 3 connected bedrooms should be pictured and transparent in the property description.
2. The water smelled like sulfur, and consequently had a bad taste. It was actually really bad. The property manager should be running the water periodically if there are no tenants staying for long periods of time. Hopefully the property manager does read this and takes a look at this problem.
3. No bathroom door for upstairs shared bathroom. If you come out of the shower to brush your teeth in your towel, you're exposed to your other housemates with no door.
4. No shower in master bathroom
5. Stairs and railings on upstairs living room stair area have large gaps (only concerning for young children)
6. Limited Internet connection
A great rustic gathering place. Big dining room table for a bunch of people where we ate and played games. Big upstairs fireplace room where we had evenings in front of the fire after skiing all day. Pretty nice place to make memories.
We had an amazing stay
House was 10 mins from the mountain
Lovely cozy home for 2 Families to stay
House was very clean and spacious a two family rooms and large dining room table
We had a wonderful week in Stowe
We had a great time. The house is very well located halfway between town and Mt. Mansfield. It is near a whole bunch of restaurants, shops, markets, services, etc. making it very convenient for a Stowe vacation. There were 4+ bedrooms, making it easy for people to find places to sleep. The children loved the bunk beds and the loft while the adults enjoyed the two private bedrooms suites (one is a real suite and the other is a very private first floor bedroom next door to the first floor bathroom making it close to a suite). There were two very very comfortable living rooms, one a true mountain great room and the other a more cozy room in which to relax. The kitchen was well stocked and nicely set up for real use. There was easy access to the parks and trails of Stowe and I imagine in the summer months, the lawn down to the river is beautiful. Thank you for a great stay.
