A record-setting hard freeze at Christmas meant that the house, along with many others in the Cashiers community, had no water. We and the owner did not realize this until after we arrived. Other than this major inconvenience, our stay was fantastic. Great location (isolated, yet 5 minutes from Ingles supermarket). Setting is wooded with large grassy area for outside play, and view of basalt massif. Floor plan--two wings widely separated by large common areas-was ideal for our multi-generational (ages ranged from 1 year to 78) reunion. Kitchen is small, adequately equipped, with limited counter space. Need a quick guide to operate chef-grade stove.
Beautiful property-itâs tucked away and so peaceful. Spacious home. Great location! Our family spent Thanksgiving in Cashiers and this home was perfect for us. My brother loved being able to walk the trails with his dog.
Love the acreage, sprawling rancher with lots of room to breathe. Bathrooms nicely remodeled. Great property for dogs. Nice trails & driveway for daily walks.
This property has 30+ Acres of land, with a fantastic view of a mountain for your morning coffee. The property is dog friendly, which makes it a rare find in Cashiers. The house itself is a touch out-dated, with numerous antiques that are often more beautiful than comfortable. The owner is very responsive, and was helpful in resolving some plumbing matters that arose during our stay. With a little investment in just a few key pieces of furniture and carpeting, this would be one of the premier properties in Cashiers. However, those are minor items compared to the beauty of the land, the fabulous location adjacent to the Kroger shopping center (though you would never even know it existed due to the size of the land), and ease of communication with the owner.
We had a beautiful and peaceful Thanksgiving week at Owl's Nest with family. We enjoyed the privacy and the sense of being alone in the mountains. The property is amazingly located next door to the grocery, but you cannot hear a thing other than nature. Helen is the most gracious hostess and is quick to respond. She even decorated the house for our family gathering. We hope to return when possible!
My mother bought this house as a summer retreat from Fla, heat in the 60's. Our family enjoyed the falls, pond and trails in the scenic natural beauty & country charms of the Cashiers plateau. Decades later, after my mother died, I brought my twins from Palm Beach Fla. to Cashiers and we made the move to year-round living. That was the best decision we made because as the saying goes "it takes a village" and this generous small rural community welcomed us! the boys and dogs thrived at local Summit Charter School and Good Shepherd Church. We drove all over Western Carolina to ski, camp, raft , shop, theatres and explore the natural treasures of our adopted mountain home.
This property's main structure grew to include a wormy-chestnut new Master bedroom & bath suite, another guest room and a double garage thanks to my mother's foresight. When I acquired it, a series of renovation projects followed that expanded and updated all the bathrooms, electrics/heating and kitchen. Now the home is really two wings each with its own master suite and guest room with the tray ceilinged living room, T/V den, two dining rooms & kitchen in the middle. Garage access direct to master suite & Chinese queen bedroom for handicap/wheelchair guests. Last year, we have redone the wooden kitchen floor, replaced the back deck and front steps and added a scenic small garden pond with flowing water near front entrance. A fresh coat of paint inside and outside,a blue grey new roof, and a few hundred small repairs were our spring improvements this year.I lived in our home all winter and enjoyed hikes, reconnecting with old friends at church and shopping for new linens.
Location LOCATION location: u could walk to town if you wanted to yet nearly 40 undeveloped acres surrounding our home to insure privacy and peace. The layout allows at least two families to share house and yet each have their own private wing. Dogs enjoy use of house, have a fenced in yard and lots of walking trails on site.
