Wonderful Lakeside Getaway!
Weâre stayed at this lakeside rental, and it was absolutely perfect! The location is breathtaking, with stunning views of the lake from every angle. The cabin was cozy, clean, and well-equipped with everything we needed for a relaxing stay. We especially enjoyed the outdoor spaceâhaving morning coffee on the deck while watching the sunrise over the water was unforgettable.
The property is private and peaceful, perfect for a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle. The lake was clear and calm, it was great for fishing and kayaking.
We can't wait to come back again. If you're looking for a serene, beautiful place to unwind, this lakeside rental is a gem!
We rented the property this past week, launched the fishing kayaks right off the dock and was a perfect homebase when my Son and his friends went exploring neighboring bodies of water. The Lake was quiet except on the weekend when there were recreational activities and Wave Runners but it didn't bother the tranquility or the atmosphere.
Pros: quite location on the lake, canoe and kayaks were are in great condition, house has all of the necessary kitchen appliances and accessories.
Cons: the bedding and pillows could use an upgrade. lake is shallow and is not the best location for swimming.
Overall: would rent again
Overall we had a very nice stay. The cabin is a nice size and with two bathrooms, was convenient for two couples to have their own space. The kitchen had everything we needed and the furniture and television in the living area is newer than the photos in the listing. The internet speed was fine. It's nice that there are kayaks and the access to the lake is great.
A few things to note - towels and linens are not provided, so this is problematic if you are flying and limited on suitcase space. The downstairs bathroom needs some love, the tub surround is coming loose and there a lot of moisture and no vent. The water in the toilet tanks was colder than the ambient temperature, which caused condensation and water on the floor. The weather was unusually wet and foggy, so the cabin never really seemed to dry out. I suspect that's not the norm, but without A/C things stayed pretty damp. It would be great if the bed downstairs was on a frame and not on the floor.
Again, overall we had a nice stay. We had plenty of space for four adults and enjoyed our time there.
We had a wonderful stay. House is super clean and well supplied, views are amazing. Centrally located to Portland, Kennebunk and Freeport. We will be back!
This cabin was exactly what we needed! We arrived with the house clean and welcoming. There was a perfect amount of room for my mother, husband, our three boys, and myself. It had more than we expected, with paper towels, toilet paper, every dish that could be needed, games, canoe, pedal boat, kayaks, a beautiful fire pit, 2 docks, 2 showers, and enough area to set up some games for my kids. As a previous reviewer had said, i would bring towels and sheets. I havent been to a cabin on the lake since i was a kid and this was just what i needed to give my kids the same memories. We sat outside for the majority of the time, the deck was a perfect area that also fit all of us so we could see the gorgeous views of the lake. Each bedroom was roomy and perfect for all of us. We made sure to replace the paper towels and toilet paper for the next people. Fridge is newer and big enough to fit anything you need. The fishing was amazing (i caught the biggest bass out of all 6 of us!) Highly recommend this rental!!!!!
Thank you Charles!
We had another great stay here. The place was spotless when we got there. It had everything we needed. We spent most of our time outdoors. Even when it rained we sat on the deck under the overhang. We enjoyed lobsters at the picnic table while enjoying the view of the lake. We were lucky enough to see the Full Buck Moon over the lake. That was a spectacular sight. Thank you Charles to you and your family for sharing this beautiful spot.
We look forward to spending our annual vacation at Lake Arrowhead... for my husband and my brother-in-law, it is all about the fishing. This was a new cabin for us and we weren't sure what to expect. We were not disappointed! The compact kitchen had everything we needed with dining area and living space in view. And while the indoor space might have been challenging during colder months, the late summer temperatures allowed the outdoor space to be thoroughly enjoyed! Deck, overlooking the two docks, and the firepit were great! And, having other boats available to supplement the two kayaks we brought was helpful. We will book again! (Just fyi - house was clean when we got there!)
Nice place. Living area was a little small for the number of people that it can accommodate, but the deck was nice to eat our meals on. The kayaks and canoe were perfect on the lake.
I sent the message below to the host on August 10th. I gave him 2 weeks to reply and have heard nothing. I post it here so no one else need go through what we did. It was so bad we left early.
Charles,
This is to let you know that we vacated the cabin this morning, August 10th.
Iâm not in the habit of leaving bad reviews. Iâd rather let you know what the issues are in case youâre unaware of them.
When we arrived the house was filthy. Pools of coffee and coffee grounds around the coffee maker, piles of dirt in the corners. Food and debris all over the sink. The counter was flooded with water and the rubber mat was mildewed. The stove top had burned on food stuck all over it. The table was so sticky it peeled the rubber bumper off the laptop when we picked it up. I spent the first day cleaning.
When I searched for pillows and a blanket for the bed, I found them on the closet floor with the vacuum cleaner on top of them.
When we tried to use the oven to cook, it filled the house with toxic fumes. There was some type of mat on the bottom that melted to the oven. Iâve left it on the railing outside the kitchen door.
Within two days of arrival, we had mice in the kitchen. They ruined much of the food we had on the counter and we spent the rest of the visit hiding our remaining food and cleaning up mouse poop every day.
The last straw was the bed bug looking bug that crawled out from under the sofa cushion. We gave up and left. I hope we did not bring along any hitchhikers.
I rent houses several times a year. Iâve never had this degree of trouble. It is sad to see an otherwise lovely cabin in this condition. I hope you can find someone to clean it properly before someone else looses half of their vacation and has to spend extra money on a hotel.
Respectfully,
Dawn Gibson
The area lost power twice during our stay, neither time for any obvious reason. Perhaps high demand on a weak electrical grid? It came back in <2 hours both times so the impact was minimal (other than the not knowing), and the fact that it was a regional event means it was beyond the home owner's control.
We had a wonderful week at Lake Arrowhead - we made good use of the kayaks, canoe, and paddleboat that came with the property, and the lake is shallow enough that it was warm even though it was early in the summer. We climbed two small but beautiful mountains within a half hour drive (Sawyer and Knox) and the kids caught fish right off of the dock. We ate almost every meal outside on the porch. The house is on a little point of land and we loved having the lake around us on 3 sides. We had fabulous weather, and spent almost all our time outside - definitely 5 stars for the property and location. I gave 4 for inside because the common spaces are a little small for the number of people the house can sleep. But it's perfect for a mostly-outdoor week and we had a great time here. We would definitely stay again!
As far as property and location this is a 5 star. Itâs in a beautiful spot. The deck over looking the lake is where we spent the most time. We loved the house. It had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We enjoyed the canoe and exploring the lake, and even tested out the peddle boat. We had a fire almost every night. The only small hiccup was the cleanliness. We did have to do some cleaning upon arrival. But that being said we will stay here again!
The wife and I had a great stay for my 40th birthday. Challenging fishing with the milfoil but it was totally worth it. So many place to explore on the lake, especially in a kayak. Love the location and the privacy and would definitely come back.
Beautiful location outside but not so inside due to the cleaning u have to do from last tenants!
So Iâll start by saying the properly is absolutely beautiful. Although the inside is very roomy & decor is fascinating, not having the house cleaned on a regular basis is not acceptable! My family & I had to clean out the fridge, toilets & bathtubs not to mention vacuuming & dusting. There was a layer of dust & dirt along w/ gnats & spiders abound in the house constantly. I should mention that I grew up in Maine in a lake house & understand that there are bugs & dirt everywhere but this was over & above. The house should have consistent cleaning (COVID or not) every time a renter leaves. Leaving the cleaning to the last people to clean up before they leave is ridiculous! I was led to believe that VRBO charges so much for their fees because vacationers should not have to clean on their vacation plus, as in my case, we had to clean someone elseâs disgusting mess!!! So basically, my family & I cleaned when we got there & cleaned again when we left! To the owners credit, he did offer to pay us a minimal amount for cleaning but I was rather insulted by the amount. The window screens & sliding door screens were very frustrating due to improper cleaning or rather no cleaning as well as improper installation. I have saved for 2 years to come & see my family & unfortunately the house just wasnât up to my standards. Another major issue due to Maineâs unpredictable weather was no air conditioning in the house & w/ 90 degree weather, being in that house was definitely a negative. But I did know that beforehand!
This is such a lovely and relaxing spot located on Lake Arrowhead. Very private with two docks. Plenty of room inside and a spacious deck outside for enjoying the view!
This quaint cabin was perfect for our week long stay. The views were beautiful and the sounds were peaceful! We were grateful for the excellent communication and the opportunity to stay in a home so close to our family. Thank you!
Had everything we needed and more! From cooking to playing this home is well equipped. Make sure to bring your own sheets, towels and pillows if you like extra.
total tranquility... beautiful property right on the lake. Quiet, simple, peaceful.
We had a wonderful stay... the home and location was exactly what we were looking for. Tranquil and beautiful... and awesome fishing. My kids fished everyday! This home had all the accommodations for an âlike at homeâ experience.
