We stayed 4 weeks at Bob's property and really did not want to leave.
And after we left to another place in Tavernier, we wanted to drive back every day.
The house is massive and there is so much space for everyone, so people don't start annoying each other. I was there with my wife and friends.
It's super well designed, tastefully decorated, and well equipped so you don't really need to bring anything, even for a long stay.
Nice covered parking, the pool (though small) is a welcome Oasis for tanning and cooling down.
We were doing home-office all the white and internet and spacing was great for that. Kitchen very well equipped.
Garden is well done, you feel like you are in a djungle alone on the island, don't see too many people and houses, hardly any noise from the few neighbors.
Only slight drawbacks (which you'll get over) is that the house has no direct water access to the canals (or water views).
Also the washer dryer are very loud and located just right between the bedrooms or and the living room, so you kind of have to do laundry while you are out for convenience. Sorry Bob, maybe time go get a couple of quieter machines? But we are super noise sensitive, other people may not mind.
Since we stayed for four weeks and it is a big house, there were one or two instances where we had to get someone to fix some stuff and Bob was always 100% on point and got someone to fix things asap. Bob was always kind and courteous and quick to respond to any request, so he was a great host as well.
In terms of location, Duck Key itself isn't that interesting with only the Hawks Cay resort, not recommended, DON'T go to Angler and Ale, the Dolpin Connection (Recommended) and SOle Watersports for Kayak, Snorkle Tours etc. (also recommended).
We still liked the location because it was quiet and we used it as a strategic place to then do all our adventure trips throughout the keys: Whether it'd be Key West and Dry Tortugas 1h30m drive, or getting Scuba Certified in Islamorada 30m drive, or doing a little plane ride out of Marathon 15m drive.
Marathon itself has the Acquarium Encounters also good and the Turtle Hospital and all major conveniences if you need them (Publix!)
So if you want to explore the whole of the keys and not just a specific place, Duck Key is actually quite good. And despite the lack of water access, Bob's place never gets old !
