The house was perfect for our family. Being able to ride utvs right from the house was a bonus. The house was exactly as described and we didn't find anything wrong with it. The kitchen had everything we needed for our meals and we are a family of homemade meals. Check in was simple get the code and go inside and start enjoying. We would rent again and there are several lakes close by for fishing, win win!!
Loved how much shared space there was for our group to have dinner together, hang out in the living room, and enjoy the deck and fire pit outside. We didnât spend a ton of time at the house during the day, but it was exactly what we needed at night, spacious and great for relaxing. That said, the house couldâve been a bit cleaner when we arrived, and the upstairs shower was really small, so most of us ended up using the one downstairs. Still, overall a great spot for a group trip.
House accommodated our large group. Loved the big deck which was great for gathering. Sits above beautiful view of river with steps that lead down. Great fishing. Easy in & out process. Bathrooms were not very clean upon arrival
We were here to ski Wolf Creek and explore. Location is great, it needs a deep cleaning, layout is good, strange to have the dryer in the beadroom away from washer. It will do. Pleanty of beds.
The house was perfect for our big family. My only complaint is it didnât seem like the floors were vacuumed before we got there! Not an issue with the stay though!
Dan's place is the perfect size for our large group of ten to act as a base camp for exploring the area on our motorcycles. Fully stocked kitchen, variety of sleeping areas, and a large relaxing front deck. This is our second stay with Dan because it fits our needs so well. There was a surprise visitor, we're assuming a bear, that had knocked over the dumpster and spread trash everywhere before we got there. It just took us a little while to get everything back in order. Luckily, we had no run-ins with the bear while we were there!
We really enjoyed our stay at this property. We had 2 couples & 5 children. The kids had a great time at the river. We rode our side by sides straight from the property to the trails and rode over 250 miles in the week we stayed there. There is a beautiful lake really close by and the fishing was excellent. South Fork was a great place to go if you want to get away from the crowds. The only negative was a few areas could have been cleaned better. The upstairs bathroom shower and the kitchen. I think people before us put away some pots & pans that were still dirty. Overall, I would stay here again!
This cabin is in such a great location, but we showed up to a disgusting house. There were crumbs on the tables, floors and couches. Stains on the walls, the showers were dirty (and the upstairs shower leaks down into the bedroom ceiling below). Just a general lack of cleaning and maintenance throughout. Patio furniture and chairs were falling apart and probably a liability for the owner. We spent a good 3 hours cleaning before we even settled in, not a great start to our get-a-way. Also there was a propane grill but there was no propane.
Eating and cooking. Plenty of pots, pans, silverware, dishes.
Good stock of basic spices and accessories.
Lots and lots of beds.
Great location, e.g. national forest, South Fork, Pagosa Springs.
Looking forward to returning next summer.
We were here to hunt and to have a vacation and enjoy the stay in Colorado. The cabin was nice, it was dated and could use some updating. We did find a few things that would have been a better opinion of the house, and that is, it could have been cleaned better and that the dishes were cleaned. I might find another house keeper. Just a thought. We did enjoy our visit and we always love coming to Colorado!
The house was exactly what we expected and better. Itâs unpretentious, not fancy, not overly modern, but just what we needed as a family on a vacation to southern Colorado. Itâs within minutes of the Beavercreek Reservoir, and the Big Meadows Reservoir, great for fishing with Kids. One of our best experiences yet. We will come again!
While the cabin was in a nice location and the owner was very responsive and helpful when we had some pre-trip questions, the cabin was not the cleanest, especially upstairs. Also, we had lots of snow/precipitation and there is no gravel/concrete parking so it turned into a sloppy mess.
Lots of dishes were extremely dirty, sheets on one of the beds were full of fiberglass shards and my brother woke up itching like crazy, mold in showers, stairs were not shoveled and weâre covered in a massive ice block, smoke backdrafts out of the chimney through poorly sealed window into one of the bedrooms upstairs.
Loved the location of this cabin. The cleanliness of the cabin left a lot to be desired. Used contact lenses on dresser. Did not look like the floors had been cleaned upstairs or down. To the owners credit, I did call him about this and he offered to send the cleaning lady over in the morning. The picnic table needs some serious attention and the bench by the front door I would say just remove it as there is no seat left in it.
1). Started off with confusing booking dates. July 31 to Aug 5 was our dates. Three days before leaving, they send info, dates were through Aug 4. Another saying Aug 6. Being scare weâd be short on our vacay time. Iâd booked another home from 2 nights. Finally calling the owner, he was confused on our dates too. Finally they got the dates right, had to cancel our home.
2). Arrived at the home, nice room and plenty beds, BUT it was dirty and needed maintenance on several things. Thinking this man needs a better housekeeper.
3) we enjoyed our family time between at the home ad Fun Valley.
This was the 3rd time we have rented this property for a large family vacation. With 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, large dining table, and new deck, it met all of our needs.
The check in process was very easy. The door handle is missing some keys but the ones that are there are the ones you need so I guess not a big deal. This property shows way better in pictures than it looks. It is well use for sure. Nothing is updated. The washer is in the hall. The dryer is in the master bedroom closet. So if you short good luck at hanging cloths in there. All the bathrooms were old. They looked clean but the shower curtain in the big bathroom on bottom floor was moldy. None of the shower heads work. The need some serious cleaning or changed out. They sprayed every way but on you or they were pelleting you with the other setting. The water was good and hot though. The upstairs bathroom shower door was very hard to get open my mother in law almost got stuck in it because she couldn't lift it to open it. I think the upstairs shower is leaking into the the bottom room that doesn't have a bathroom. It was very hot when we got to the house there was 1 fan so we had to go buy some to cool house off. There are a few ripped screens so big got in at night. There are no instructions that are up to date about the house or what to do to check out. The carpeted stairs could use a vacuum they have hair pilled up in the corners. This whole house could use a deep clean from the ceiling that is covered in dust hanging to the corners of all the floors. It was ok for what we needed it for but not what we paid alot of money for. Also all the board games are dumped into a chest in the living room. You could have lost of fun figuring what puzzles the hundreds of pieces go to. I wish I could post pictures. We have stayed in other houses in South Fork and they have been way better taken care of with keeping the rustic older charm of the houses around them.
Dan has owned vacation rentals for 25 years. We know what people need when coming to Colorado, and we are always glad to help visitors make the most out of their vacation.
Dan Schmedeman (owner) has designed and built dozens of log homes through out the Colorado Rockies. There is no place in Colorado more scenic then South Fork, and our cabin is setting in the middle of one of the nicest location in the area. After a few days at the cabin, you will not want to go home.
My favorite time is the early spring or fall when i can get up early, get my cup of coffee and walk down to the river or Million Resevoir for some great trout fishing.
