This cabin is a retro-style cottage, well-equipped, clean and tidy. Plenty of room for one or for a whole family. The cabin has views of Lake Superior. There is a carport so you can rest assured if bad weather comes, your car is protected. Perhaps one of the best features of the cabin is that you are literally steps from the sandy beaches of Lake Superior. Everything is right there for you, so much so that you could stay at the cabin your whole stay. This cabin is a great option when visiting Marquette. The owner is also very attentive and responds to emails quickly. Definitely a great place to stay.
We had a wonderful week at the Superior Beach House! The location is perfect, the beach is clean and sandy, and the sauna was a treat! Sue was very helpful and responsive and the neighbors were friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again.
Loved the 60s decor inside, spacious rooms, outside shower and sauna, beautiful deck and, of course, Lake Superior where we saw daily sunrise and sunset!!!! Sue was very helpful with all my many questions!
Sue's "camp" is wonderful. A small cabin, just a short short walk from the beach on Lake Superior, is simple but has everything you need. A perfect place to spend a relaxing vacation -- we'd stay again in a heartbeat. Very close to the bike path and a short drive into town. The only thing I'd recommend is a second fan and a few more window/door screens, but we were there when it was extremely hot (but we used the sauna even so!).
The beach is wonderful. The cottage is 1960 retro decorated.
Be aware there is no Wi-Fi
The microwave is on the lower power spectrum. Itâs probably from the early 70s â we made due with it though
The host was excellent in answering any questions that came up
Youâre close to town. We enjoyed ourselves very much
Beautiful spot. Glorious sunrises and sunsets. Pure water. Quiet neighbors. Lovely home. Secluded neighborhood but close to a market. The beach was never once crowded. It was an ideal base for our many adventures. Our son flew in from LA and loved everything about it. We'd rent again in a heartbeat. Thanks Susan for the gift of your home.
What more can I say itâs on the beach!!!! We had many walks up and down the beach enjoying the waves (all sand) We forgot our chairs but there were chairs already down on the beach so coffee in the morning was enjoyable. Beach house is right on a paved road and is about 10 minutes from Marquette. We had good cell service for both us cellular and Verizon. Beds were comfortable and it felt like home we will be coming back next year so sure
The location was great. A new couch, or even a new slip cover would be nice. I didn't want to sit on the couch unless I covered it with a towel. Remind the cleaner to get the sand off the couch between renters. Maybe a rug that actually fits the living room would be nice. Bedding from the 50's could use an update- none of these things would be too difficult or expensive and could really elevate the interior look.
Honestly, this property is in my top 10 All-time favorites. If youâre looking for that up north woods, socially unencumbered and disconnected vibe, then youâll definitely want to set your sites on a stay. Sueâs Superior Beach House, while not elegant in a modern technological way, still managed to represent everything a home should be. This place screams family! You canât help but feel the love emanating from the walls her father erected in 1965 for his family. As you sit on the front deck in a pair of weathered rocking chairs trying to make sense of the beauty of Lake Superior, you canât help but imagine the memories of past, present and future times this house has seen unfolded with in itâs walls. Sue, what a great property. For everything this home may not be for some. It was everything to myself and Sawyer!
We had the pleasure of staying here for 4 days in June, and loved it. Agree with the other reviews about the quiet of the street, the serene beach, and the close-to-everything but still-far-away access. We came to town for mountain biking and the trails are accessible from here, with a crushed gravel and then paved bike path connector just up the street, which ties in to the south trail system. Or, the trails are also a short car ride that passes a market, McDonalds, etc. The house itself is an original 1960's vacation cabin, and it comes with all the charms and quirks of the time. Having grown up going to a cabin similar to this, I was taken with the simple, everything-you-need-and-nothing-you-don't feeling of the place. Everything about it invites you to sit back and relax. The sauna attached to the garage and steps from the house was a really nice bonus. The only thing I would say could be improved would be the comfort of the mattresses; perhaps was due for a replacement. That said, everything else was so perfect that we would love to come back next summer if we come to Marquette!
We really enjoyed our week at the Superior Beach House! The location is fabulous - right on the beautiful Lake Superior beach with easy access and just a quick car trip to get to the grocery store or into Marquette to explore. Most of the beds were comfortable (the 2nd double not so much!) but there were not the appropriate size linens for all of the beds and we had to use twin flat sheets on one of the double beds. I am a cook and would have liked some better tools available - especially a decent knife. Next time, I will bring my own if possible! We used the sauna every day - my husband loved it. We experienced cool nights but thought it might get hot without more fans or screens in the living room (especially on the slider door). We got to see the resident fox run by a few early mornings which was fun! It is not a luxurious place but plenty comfortable. I grew up in the UP and this is a camp for sure! I would definitely book again.
My family has been spending a week on the beach in the UP every summer for many years. We have stayed in a variety of properties and this cottage has exceeded all of them. The house has just what a small family needs to be comfortable. It's charmingly "vintage" but clean. The location is excellent. Close to the amenities in Marquette and other area attractions but also right on one of the most beautiful beaches around. The owner is great and quick to respond to communication. My entire family agrees that this place is simply perfect. Thanks, Sue, for sharing it with us!
The biggest negative for our trip was the long drive....91/2 hours. My wife has a bad back and sitting that long is not easy. We did break the trip up with several stops but it's still a long way. Having said that, it is a trip we'll always remember. My wife grew up there in the U.P. so our visit included time with old friends and many of her relatives. My wife's back didn't like walking in the sand but I walked the beach every morning. Never saw more than 3 people (and some walks none at all) on my beach walks which were all over an hour in length. I'd love to go back but my better half claims it's too far to drive. I'm hoping like the pain of child birth, the memory of the pain will lessen over time and the memories of the good times will override the long drive.
