The little house was perfect for us, a very comfortable couch to lounge on downstairs in the well lit 'basement' kitchen/living room, always a comfortable temperature and quiet due to the thick old walls. A spacious and atmospheric bedroom, plenty of storage space. Cleverly retains the original character of the fisherman's cottage but with quirky and welcoming modern decoration. Very nice to have bathrooms up and downstairs. Good quality bedlinen and towels, beach mats, umbrella and towels a very nice touch. Everything good quality and very clean. A very clever conversion on the first floor means that with both the windows open, there is a balcony, always light and with a little sea view, a lovely relaxing spot for morning coffee or evening wine. The sea is only a few seconds away around the corner, and you can drink your coffee or glass of wine there too, sitting on the wall and looking at the lovely view; only fishermen and the odd sunbather make it to this end of the beach, so it feels very peaceful. Carmen herself made the stay very easy from the start, kindly picking us up and dropping us back at the station, leaving us coffee and milk, beautiful strawberries, and a sack of gorgeous oranges from her garden when we left (and we got them back on the aircraft!) She generously offered us lifts to local beauty spots and provided great advice on where to eat (Carpe Diem), and left us with guides and timetables. The house is perfectly located at the very end of the sea front road which meant a lovely walk of 10 min any time we wanted to go to the local grocery shops (full of helpful and friendly locals and delicious Sicilian food) or for gelato or meals. Over the week, we really got to learn the rhythm of the local people, recognising the same old chaps at the cafe at 5.45pm, the children out with parents for gelato in the early evening, families dining at 9pm, and we have many lovely photos to remind us of the fantastic moonscapes over the sea. So easy to get around, you don't need a car; bus to Taormina (take in the stunning cliff views) trains to Syracuse, Santa Teresa (seafood), Catania, tour of Etna booked in Letojanni. This stay really exceeded our expectations and we would definitely stay there again if we return to beautiful Sicily. Thank you Carmen!
