Large house with private pool in stunning rural location - 4km to the beaches

Casa Maiz Ponte is a large modern house set in enclosed gardens with a sliding covered swimming pool and wide open views over the picturesque valley. The first floor terrace offers great views of the surrounding countryside and the downstairs partially covered barbecue/dining area is well equipped with a wood fired pizza oven, dishwasher, fridge, ice machine and a large home-cinema screen for movies. The house is split into two self contained apartments giving everyone their own space. On the ground floor there is a games room with table tennis, table football, vintage arcade game and four bicycles. The first floor has a open plan living area and kitchen leading onto a large terrace, 3 double bedrooms (one en suite) and 2nd bathroom/shower room. The second floor has a sitting room, 1 double bedroom (en suite), 2 twin bedrooms, kitchen and 4th bathroom/shower room. 5th toilet in barbecue area. We have a very large enclosed garden with many fruit trees which you are welcome to pick when in season. We are ideally situated for exploring the North of Spain. Our nearest town Castro Urdiales is a beautiful fishing village only 10mins by car (35mins walk). Castro boasts of two blue flag beaches and numerous restaurants and bars. Bilbao is 30mins, Santander 45mins and San Sebastian 1 hour 30mins.

Montealegre is a small village. The house is situated in a stunning valley overlooking neighbouring farms. There’s a local bar in Montealegre 5min walk from the house. There is also a children's playground, football and basketball court within walking distance. Local activities within 30mins include horseback riding tours, guided canoeing, paddle boarding, quad biking tours and many more. We are only 10mins by car to the A8 motorway giving you easy access to many amazing locations in both Cantabria and the Basque country. For guests travelling without a car, there's a bus stop in the village 5min walk from the house to Castro Urdiales. From Castro Urdiales you can take a direct coach to Bilbao, Santander, San Sebastian and many more local places. This is the perfect location for combining rural relaxation, seaside fun and city sophistication. *Occasionally but not normally in the summer months, a designated area in the valley is used for stacking logs. Great stay in a great location

We had a fab stay, the property is in an excellent location for exploring the northern coast with great beaches and lots to do. Good hosts, and there were plenty of things to do at the property on days when we wanted to stay in - including a really good pool, various games and bikes. 10 out of 10!

Wonderful

We were a family of 12 people, between 8 and 72 years old. We loved it!The house is very well equipped and comfortable for everyone. The garden and the swimming pool are perfect, but our favourite places were the porch and the barbecue, we could spend a month there!It's a great location—very close to Castro Urdiales. There are tons of things to do and visit around, including Bilbao.Kelly and Luis are very friendly, helpful and always available.We are definitely repeating soon.

Great house and facilities in peaceful location

The welcome from Luis and Kelly was excellent and the house spotless. Any queries were dealt with. You arrive over a small hill from the local village and it is like you enter a world of calm, with the only sounds being the local animals, including the bells on some of the local farm animals. If you close your eyes you could be in the Swiss Alps. The house is perfect for large groups. Our kids loved the pool, games room with table tennis, table soccer and 80's games machine. The ice maker in the outdoor kitchen was also a particular attraction when we attempted pizza on the outdoor stove. Castro, the nearest town is about a 10 minute drive away, but a great spot to spend a day / get the shopping. Thanks Kelly and Luis!

Lovely Rural property

Excellent accommodation. Kitchen, well equipped. Lounge and bedrooms comfortable. Lovely swimming pool. Only problem, the sun disappeared shortly after 1.30pm due to the surrounding hills. We visited in October, probably ok in the summer.

family fun in large spacious house on 3 levels

family of twelve aged from 11 months to 60 celebrated a big birthday. Spacious accommodation with ensuite bathrooms, brilliant outdoor living space, good pool and table tennis table for the family tournament. House is set in a lovely location with a very attractive local beach, Miono, about 4k away. Kelly and Louis are very helpful and friendly and cooked a brilliant feast one night, which had been requested by us, comprising of small plates of tasty dishes, a stunning seafood paella, some succulent meat and delicious cake. Highly recommended!

Fab house with fab entertainment for the kids in a lovely edge of village (with pub), rurual setting

We have just come back from a week in Luis and Kelly's amazing house. It was perfect and totally hit the spot for us. We are two familiesw, with 4 girls aged 9 to 12 and the house gave use all that we needed. The best part was the great entertainment for the kids (and adults!) a big games room with table tennis, a great vintage table football, a vintage up-right games machine with around 400 or so vintage arcade games (we were hooked on Pac-man!), 4 good quality mountain bikes and a great pool. House was great, the terrace, the hammocks, the garden, the views from the terrace and the undercroft dining was perfect shade or protection from the odd rain drop. The pizza oven was a real hit with the kids (make sure you know the ingredients for pizza dough before you go) and the vegetables from the garden or from Luis's small holding were much appreciated! Yummy! The location is great for exploring the region - a great cheap local pub with good food a 5 mins walk and it was possible to walk to Castro Urdiales in 30 minutes through the countryside though we didn't. Gorgeous views from the house/terrace. Would highly recommend this to anyone and we have stayed in a few houses like this. Just perfect and great hospitality from Luis and Kelly! Wonderful complete stay with endless possibilities

We were 11 people ranging in ages from 10 to 75 - three generations - celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary. Due to the location and the facilities of this excellent home, we swam, biked, watched moves on the terrace, danced, read, barbecued, played card games, and baked many pizzas. We also toured - Bilbao, Santander, and the San Sebastian area - to appreciate the natural and cultural beauty of the region and its world-famous cuisine. A couple of cloudy, drizzly days did not inhibit us. Luis and Kelly were extremely helpful and generous with their time. In summary, a prefect region, city, and vacation home.

Lovely spacious house in a wonderful setting

The property was large and easily provided for a family of 5 and Grandparents. Light airy and comfortable. Kelly and Luis the owners were always able to give help, suggestions and advice. They were very generous allowing us the use of their bikes and the youngsters the use of their games in the large basement which kept them happy for hours. The swimming pool was great and thoroughly enjoyed by all. The house was in a great location with very easy access to many attractions. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and have very many lovely memories, thanks Kelly and Luis.
