We had a wonderful holiday in this cosy, well-equipped gite - a tasteful and well-conceived barn conversion adjoining a larger gite and the owners' lovely home. Both gites are full of character, with old stone walls and beams. Jan and John are wonderful hosts - thoughtful in the details, and nothing was too much trouble. The pool area is perfect for relaxing, and the views are wonderful. Nearby Montaigu has all you need, and there is lots to see and do in this area. We will definitely come back!
A second visit can often be disappointing. Not this one! Our experience in 2017 was very positive, and we are so very glad that we went back a second time. We had a wonderful stay. The small gite is very suitable for us as a couple - clean, comfortable and well equipped, and the shared space around the pool is great for relaxing and getting to know the neighbours! The owners, John and Jan, were their usual kind selves ... attentive to every detail and so helpful. There's loads to do in the immediate area ... beautiful bastides like Tournon, Lauzerte, Penne d'Agenais, Roquecor ... Cahors, Sarlat and St Cirq la Popie are also very accessible. We will be back!
We were staying in Jan and John's 2 bedroom gite for one month and had family joining us for one week. They stayed in this beautiful little gite which was close to our gite, but private and secluded. The gite is a good size, well equipped and decorated. We had 2 children with us and there is lots of garden for the kids to play in and amuse themselves. There was also a great pool which was in a beautiful setting. Whilst the gite and the garden are very tranquil and relaxing, you are still within walking distance of the local town which had many good facilities. Boulangerie, Restaurant, Coffee shop, Pharmacy and Supermarket. This really is a great little gite for a couple on holiday looking for relaxation and tranquility.
We had two great weeks staying in Lavande, the perfect gite for two people. The location was just right for us being just a two minute drive to the centre of Montaigu-de-Quercy with its Intermarche and Saturday market. Keeping stocked up with fresh food was therefore easy and quick.
Jan and John are excellent hosts, very welcoming and able to provide plenty of local knowledge. We are most grateful to them for inviting us to the marche gourmand avec musique one evening at Montaigu-de-Quercy. Great food, drink and new friends made. From the gite there are also interesting walks to the town, and leisure lake in the vicinity.
The gite is clean, comfortable, well equipped and has excellent internet connection which was a must for us. As we had two weeks of sunny and hot weather the pool was great to have as well.
This is a beautiful area amongst the bastide towns of south west France and we would certainly recommend this as a base to explore the area.
John and Jan moved to France in April 2014 from Doncaster in South Yorkshire. Having worked in education and training, we were keen to do something different. Why France? Well it was one of those heart led decisions - we fell in love with the area, the climate and the amazing walking and wildlife. Since moving here we have become active in the local community and are members of the International Club and a local amateur dramatics group. John is a keen rugby man - a former player, coach and referee, he is now a passionate supporter of local teams (Tournon d'agenais, Agen and Castres). Both Jan and John are keen walkers and offer both guided and unguided walking routes to their visitors
We bought this property as it ticked so many of our boxes - location (within walking distance to a village with all necessary shops, doctors, dentist etc), in a rugby area, with sufficient land to grow a lot of our own fruit and vegetables. The property had formerly been a ferme auberge with a conservatory room which was added as a restaurant. When we first came we had ideas of running a vegetarian cafe/restaurant, or possibly a tea room but we simply use the room as a social space. We have put on Christmas meals for 40, have had some play readings, use the room for meetings and for private parties out of season.
Fillol gites is a new development - combining the traditional stone walls of former farm buildings with modern conveniences of en suite bathrooms. The WIFI here is very good - one of the most common complaints in this area is poor internet connectiivity but we have good wifi in all gites. There are 3 properties on the site - Lavande, the 1 bed gite, Tournesol - a 2 bed gite which adjoins and the farmhouse. We can be flexible over rooming requests
