Please allow me to address Sarah's complaints: It was the local country club that mistakenly accused the guests of stealing, but of course I had to address it. Sarah was aware that our re-tile work on the pool was not completed but we had the pool tech prepare the pool for their use just the same. Unfortunately, only a night or two into their stay, something went wrong as the pool dropped a couple of inches of water over night. Since the pool is behind a retaining wall, I had no choice but to close the pool to save the integrity of the retaining wall. I offered to compensate them for the inconvenience. That's when the complaints started. First it was the black dog hair and I immediately offered to change all sheets to the new sets that had just arrived. She refused. Next she said there was no adequate trash space. In 4 years I've never had a family to fill up 2 commercial grade bins in a week. I asked them to simply put their overflow next to the bins. I was notified on trash pick up day, Friday, of the immense overflow. After checked out Saturday morning I went to the house to find they had filled up BOTH bins in less than 24 hours!!! I had to call the trash pick up service for another visit/fee. They left all of their kitchen food, fruit, and veggies saying there was no room which attracted fruit flies. The following guest commented on how wonderfully clean the house was except for the fruit flies in the kitchen. We got rid of most but evidently missed a couple. As for the house being unclean, it is true that my family helped me (knowing my rigorous requirements) and we got the job done. When I asked Sarah about specifics so that I could address her concern, she had no specifics to be addressed. At check out, I found enormous amounts of goldfish, crumbs, and limbs, yes limbs, all in the furniture and carpet. Their "frenchies" had chewed up limbs from outside and they left them tangled into our carpets that had to be handpicked out as well as several sheets ruined with purple candy/gum. It was this text however, that changed my tone once I realized what was happening: "I would like to know the level of compensation before leaving a review." We compensated them generously for the pool but had we been really fair, we should have deducted for the extra trash, the ruined sheets, and extra housekeeping. Sarah and I will have to agree that their non-return is best.

Unfortunately as owners and property managers we know there exist renters who will complain about anything to attempt to use their "review" as leverage to wrangle a refund. After calling Nancy within an hour of her self check-in Nancy said, "Oh it's lovely! It's so refreshing to finally arrive at a home that actually looks and feels like the listing online!" The evening of check-in, her brother-in-law calls our pool tech and treats him very ugly, who immediately responds to the request. The next morning I'm made aware of the call and how he was treated. I called the brother-in-law to remedy anything needing attention and was immediately treated with the same nasty disrespect. I immediately called Nancy. I promptly offered a list of equal accommodations for Nancy's party to transfer to and they refused to consider the option. Despite the treatment, my staff was onsite within 24 hours of check-in tending to their requests - much of which was unrealistic. Our home is on the river and despite best efforts, the occasional spider slips through - in the gym, not in the living quarters. My staff did an excellent job both doing their job and acting professionally through the ordeal. After our ready-inspection the day prior to their arrival, a storm went through as often happens on the river and threw some of our breakers; all of which were immediately remedied. She and her brother-in-law refused my list of other accommodations but stayed at our home for 6 remaining days, and of course, after their departure, sought a refund of which I did not grant because they chose to remain after I had offered them other options. Nancy also chose to review us almost 3 months later. Makes one wonder why. There's a time to make things right, which we give 110%, and there's a time to stand your ground and I stand behind my wonderful staff.
