We loved staying here! The scenery was breathtaking and the cabin was comfortable and very clean. It was the perfect spot for the start of our family vacation!
The cabin was great but the views were amazing, especially during the snowy season. The owner was very responsive and accommodating. Would definitely make the trip again!
We were looking for a quiet place to let our Florida kids experience snow. This location was perfect! The house had everything we needed. The views were beautiful, and the location is close to so many attractions. We would definitely stay again!
The home was so beautifully situated with amazing views!! Thoughtfully stocked with soap, spices, everything you need !
So comfortable sleeping and lounging areas. Thank you for letting us stay in your home. We had a wonderful stay!
My family joined me for my 50th birthday here. They are from Florida and were able to really experience Colorado as it should be experienced. The boys had so much fun playing in the snow and the house itself was conducive to long family dinners and time spent together. We loved it!
Loved the property, beautiful views. It was perfect for our family of five. Very nice placeâŠvery simple decor (aka not a lot of breakable things for young hands to fiddle with). Literally 15-20 minutes max from all of the primary area sites. Would absolutely return, no doubt about it. We had a wonderful trip and made some great memories with this as our home base for several days.
The Kulsa home had more to offer than I would think. The view was impressive and everywhere we went to was so close by. My kids fell in love with Teddy, the neighborhood dog, who even showed us the way up the trail we were looking for. Katharine thought of everything a person might need being away from home. Thank you for making us feel welcome. We would definitely return.
Our family really enjoyed your house and location. The kids still talk about it a year later asking when we will return and if we will be moving to Colorado. We enjoyed all of the wonderful activities and even had a dog (which at first we thought was a bear) visit us one night while we were playing games. The vacation was one of our best and we hope to return some day with our seven children. Thanks for everything!
We stayed here for a week during graduation for the Air Force Academy and what a great choice it was. There was everything you could need provided and with four bedrooms, one on lower level and one on the third level, (two on main level) plenty of privacy for everyone who came. For people coming to Colorado Springs to vacation, you couldn't ask for a better location. The cabin is off Hwy 24 and so is Seven Falls, Cave of the Winds, Manitou Cliff Dwellings, The Wolf Reserve, Old Town Colorado Springs, and Manitou Springs. Staying here you get the best of both worlds, tourist sites close at hand and staying in the beautiful mountains of Colorado. (Can you tell I'm going to miss Colorado now that my son has graduated!). I do hope to come back to visit and will definitely stay at the Kulsa House.
My siblings and I stayed at this house from July 19 to July . 23. We found the house quite nice and have little negative to say. The lock box for the key was difficult to open. The huge windows lent to a beautiful view but provided blinding light during the morning. Perhaps some blinds?
Very secluded and peaceful. Highly recommend.
This was our first time visiting Colorado and enjoyed our stay but did have a few issues.
The house is beautiful with mountain views but the house sits on a hill with a four lane highway below. You do hear the vehicles below anytime you are outside.
The second issue we had was when it came time to refund our deposit. This was not because we were not entitled to it but that we did not rank very high on someone's priority list. After several failed attempts I had to resort to filing a formal complaint with VRBO before finally receiving a check in the mail. (a month after our stay)
Katharine's Cascade cabin was an absolute delight. The home was beautiful, clean, spacious, and served us well for our family getaway. The view from both decks is breathtaking and provides a great hangout space for all. The cabin is located near the foot of Pike's Peak and is a small trek to get to, but once you make the drive a couple of times, it is rather easy to get to. Beware of deer though as we frequently saw them crossing the road to the home on a number of occasions. As expected with a home in the mountains, you definitely feel secluded, which is exactly what we were looking for. The home is filled with a ton of amenities and the kitchen is well stocked thanks to prior travelers leaving spices, sauces, coffee, etc. behind. Aside from the home, Katharine was an absolute treat to work with. She is so kind, communicative, and helped us out immensely with a last-minute request. The home is beautiful, and the owner is equal as great! If you are looking for a nice, relaxing, secluded stay this is your place! The home is very close to everything as well, so even though you can go to the home to getaway at night, you are a few short minutes from Manitou Springs, Colorado Springs, and Pikes Peak. We greatly enjoyed our stay and would definitely book again!
We had a wonderful time but the stay did not start well. There seemed to be a miscommunication between the owner and the cleaners. When we arrived on the check in day at about 5 PM the house was not cleaned from the previous tenants. Seems the cleaners did not realize the house was rented the week before us. We called the contact person Kim. She was very apologetic and quickly arrived with her crew to clean.
Once we got past the cleaning the stay was everything we had hoped for. The house is beautiful and the vista is spectacular! We have just two small suggestions. First, the house has WiFi but an Internet connection is only available if you are an Xfinity customer; otherwise, you have to purchase a temporary account (per device I believe). Providing an Internet connection (cost factored into the rental price of course) would work better. Secondly, a TV in the upstairs main room would be nice. We had a rainy day and watching movies in the great room with a view of the misty mountains would add to the experience.
All in all just a great vacation!
We love the location and layout of the cabin. However, we felt like the property was getting run down, beds not comfortable, sofa dirty. Listed as sleeping 10 but beds for only 8. Two air mattresses had leaks and sofa bed was broken. Beautiful scenery. Glad we had 4-wheel drive vehicles.
Need more kitchen towels and wash rags and clean pot holders. Stove top not clean. I worked on it because I didnât want to be blamed for it. Recliner didnât always work properly. Not that unhappy, but feel owner needs to have a talk with maintenance.
Hello, I'm a busy Mom of four kids ages 18 through 11 recently transplanted from central New Jersey to Oregon! My past job experiences have included teaching community college and co-founding one of the first parenting websites, Moms Online. Over the last ten years I've gotten involved in managing rental properties here in NJ/PA, volunteering (Girl Scouts and PTO), and working as Editor in Chief for fitsmi.
My husband and I bought this house as a bit of a lark - it was featured in a NYT piece in the Friday 'Escapes' section on Feng Shui homes. My mother-in-law was increasingly unable to travel and it just made more and more sense as we talked about it: why don't we buy it so we have a place for all of us to stay when we visit her? I did a little research about VRBO homes in the area and, at least at the time, there wasn't much competition (there's more now but we're still doing okay). We set up the house to please ourselves and our guests at the same time. It was a lot of work, and a lot of fun too.
We love, love, love the view at all hours, from watching the sun come up over the mountains early in the morning to dusk shadows and then sometimes a beautiful moon over the pass. My husband and I also love walking the Mt. Esther trail every morning we can (the head of the trail is a 10-minute walk away). When we're at the house, we enjoy complete privacy and the sense that we've gotten away from it all, but we also love the convenience of driving 20 minutes or less to many shops/attractions, from Colorado Springs to Manitou Springs, Woodland Park, Green Mountain Falls, Cave of the Winds, the local Rock Shop (our kids take forever to spend $5 in there!), Pike's Peak cog train, and more.
