The house was great. It was clean with some great amenities. The pool was clean and had an umbrella and stand to help a mid-day pool day in the peak heat. A nice big screened in porch with ceiling fans was pleasant. Even had a couple retractable clotheslines to hang towels and swim suits. It was a short walk (probably about 1/8 a mile) to a nice, uncrowded beach. A great beach to take our dogs on a walk in the evening. Communication with Michelle prompt. We would definitely look to book again
Reviews were a bit misleading, wanted to leave an honest review.
I recently stayed at this property and, while it was conveniently located near the beach, we encountered a broken water heater, which made for an uncomfortable experience. The owner had someone come out to fix it, but the fix didn't work. Additionally, there were signs of roaches in and around the unit and dirty dishes in the cabinets. The dishwasher does not work at all. There was also plywood laying on one of the balconies, restricting the amount of room on the balcony. When we went to lift it up to allow for more room, there were roaches under it, so we left it alone.
The owner was very good with communication while we were booking and making adjustments to our booking. She did refund a small portion of our payment as compensation for these inconveniences, but with the amount of money spent, it didn't fully make up for the cold showers (especially while trying to get ready for a wedding), extra time spent having to wash all of the dishes by hand (with cold water) before we even used them, and the time we spent having to check all of our items for bugs before bringing them home.
Although we encountered issues, we made the most out of our stay. The property is in a great location, very close to the beach and a quick drive to all of the local shops and attractions. The decor was beachy and cute. The beds were comfortable. The screened in porch and pool were our favorite features. I think dishwasher should be removed as one of the kitchen items on the listing, or the owner
Loved the short walk to beach and having the pool which kids spent a lot of time in. Had a great week and loved the clean beach and even saw baby sea turtles the night we arrived, and a dolphin swimming the next day.
The house was casual and comfortable for us, 4 adults 50 +, and 2 small dogs. We loved the porch where we sat, had meals and beverages, hung out with each other (dogs included) and looked at the ocean. The pool was so cool and refreshing for the warm days. Tip: we brought our own sunshade and easily hung with posts provided around the perimeter of pool area. The beach was a block away, so an easy stroll to the sand! Island Dog is a great resource for golf carts, fishing wagons, bikes, umbrellas, etc⊠very close to the house. Also, Paddyâs Raw Bar is great for simple fish, oysters, beers, Prosecco, and friendly service (close to the house too!). We didnât cook much, but when we did, there were plenty of pots, utensils, plates, etc.. We recommend Shells for your laid back SGI stay.
Our trip was amazing! First time to St. George. The house was great, pool was an excellent plus! Communication with owner was prompt when we needed her! Definitely recommend St. George and Shells! Thank you!!!
Great house! The kitchen is well stocked with everything you could possibly need. The Keurig is a definite plus! The pool and screened porch are wonderful spots to relax after spending time at the beach. The host is very responsiveâquickly answering questions and providing assistance before and during our stay. We highly recommend this property and look forward to staying here again.
This house is perfect for our family. We are 4 adults and 3 kids and there is plenty of room. The screened in porch is like a second living room and is where we spend most of our time. The walk to the beach is so easy to go back and forth and Michelle is so responsive and kind! We canât wait to come back!
Very nice and enjoyed the laid back atmosphere of the whole island. We really enjoyed going to the park and just walking. We ate at Paddyâs and Blue Parrot and both were very good and reasonably priced. We met some of the locals and all were very nice and informative.
We just returned from a week at Shells and had a wonderful time enjoying the beautiful beaches and island of SGI! The house was perfect for our group of 7. We enjoy cooking our meals in during our vacation and the kitchen was one of the best stocked kitchens we have experienced after having stayed in many rental properties. The walk to the beach is an easy block away which is appreciated when taking beach gear and the pool is a nice option. Two full showers and a very nice outdoor shower helps get showers finished quickly. The location on the island is also perfect for bike riding. We rode to the bay side, lighthouse, restaurants, shopping and to get ice cream in the evenings. Our favorite by far was the spacious screened porch with an ocean view which we used for morning coffee, a lunch break from the sun and evening relaxation. You can hear and feel the ocean breezes from the porch. The clothes line was also a functional perk with clothes pins available. It is a relaxing and comfortable home with all you need if your primary vacation goal is being outdoors on bikes or boards at the beach!
My husband and I stayed here to escape the north winds of January with our dogs. This was the first time we took a whole month away from our business. This house was perfect. A cozy, relaxed space that is just as pictured. Great wi-fi allowed us to keep in touch on business matters when necessary. Quick and easy walk to the beach. Sunsets can be viewed from the back deck. There arenât many people here this time of year, but we enjoyed the solitude. It was almost like having a private beach. We understand why this area is called âthe forgotten coastâ. If youâre interested in a little nightlife and shopping, Apalachicola is a quick drive. We had warm days with sunshine and ocean breezes, and cooler days when we cozied up to the fire and listened to the waves crashing outside. We will definitely be back to SGI and would happily stay at this house again.
We loved our stay! Michelle was super responsive and very flexible. We had a family emergency and had to have our dates rearranged and she was very open to these changes. Would like to return next year!
Details in description was all accurate house has everything you need and more! Michelle was awesome to communicate with she answers very promptly. House is in a great location and has a great price for the house! Recommend anyone to stay here!!
This house was perfect for our family! Short walk to the beach and awesome pool and a huge screened in porch that we didnât know we wanted but will be must have for future vacations. Awesome trip!
It was a great house on St George Island. It was great to have a screened in porch and a pool to hang out and dip into the water.
The pool and house was super clean.
Planning to go back next year.
This was our 5th year on SGI and we always travel as a tribe of eight. It is 3 couples and 2 kids. This house was perfect for us this year! If you donât love the people you are with, I would not recommend more than 6 staying but if you are looking for a place to catch a few winks while enjoying the island and truly bonding this is the perfect place.
The pool was an amazing addition to our trip for the evenings and rainy days where the kids still wanted water time. I would recommend that people bring citronella candles to put around the pool, seeing as we are in the south and mosquitos can not be avoided.
The owner was extremely responsive and helpful. She responded immediately when a storm came through and ripped the screen off the porch. She even offered to get someone out to fix it while we were there. This far beyond what we have experienced in our other properties.
I think I have rambled enough, but I hope this has done its work. You will love your stay at Shells!
We stayed here with our three young children and had a great time! The size of the house was perfect for us. We have a 1 year old, so while she napped the older children could swim at the house. It was just a short walk to the beach and we just pulled a wagon with our 1 year old and beach toys each day. It was plenty close enough that the older two kids could walk. The house was the perfect distance from the busy center of the island. We had a great week!
We love St. George Island and have been numerous times. This house was perfect! So close to the beach and the pool was a bonus. Would definitely stay here again.
The house was just as pictured. The pool was perfect and we were just a few steps away from the beach. The house in front of us was under construction so that was a bit of a distraction when hanging out at the pool but that's obviously out of the home owners control. Communication was great and the location was perfect. We loved our stay and can't wait to be back!
This property was really perfect. Having a private pool was such a great addition to beach access super close. The house is super roomy with the best part being the screened in back porch. We would definitely visit this property again!
We are a family that have been going to St George island for 25 years. We started out camping in the State Park located on the end of the island. Over the years we've upgraded to renting various houses on the island. Now we spend many weekends fishing the waters in and around the island. One of our favorite memories is visiting the site of the original St. George Lighthouse by boat weeks before its final collapse. We enjoy spending time on the beach relaxing and watching our dogs play and enjoy the water.
After many years of renting, we fell in love with this house due to the large screened in porch with a view of the Gulf Of Mexico. We love the white sand beaches, the very good fishing in the surf, the bay and offshore.
Besides the wonderful screened in porch that allows us to relax and enjoy the view. The real draw is the lack of crowds on the beach. There is room for you, your children and your dog to play. We love that our home is located on the far end of the gulf beach where the east end starts and that the beach had plenty of space to stretch out.
