Welcome to Last Cast at the Y
Right here at the famous Caney Creek Y â where serious Texas anglers have been coming for generations â sits this newly renovated, cozy 2-bedroom fishing retreat with its own private lighted pier. Dad wrote it best: fall in love with Sargent and enjoy the magic it has to offer. And there is genuine magic here. The kind that happens when the sun melts into the creek and turns everything gold, your line goes tight, and nobody wants the day to end.
Just 80 miles southwest of Houston. Close enough for a long weekend. Far enough to feel like you actually left.
The House
Newly renovated and thoughtfully set up for fishing families who know what matters. Two cozy queen beds upstairs, a comfortable living room with futon and new furniture perfect for relaxing after a long day on the water. One full bathroom upstairs with shower, plus a second full bath downstairs in the utility area â so the whole crew can clean up without the wait. Heating and AC throughout keep you comfortable year-round. Smart TV and free WiFi for the evenings. Fully equipped kitchen with microwave, stove and oven, plus an outdoor grill for cooking your catch. Washer, dryer, and extra refrigerator downstairs. Your dog is welcome too â one pet up to 50 lbs.
This place is clean, comfortable, and set up exactly right. Everything you need. Nothing you don't.
The Pier & The Fishing
Your private lighted fishing pier sits right on Caney Creek at the Y â one of the most productive fishing spots in all of Matagorda County. Fish day and night. The lights draw bait after dark and the action follows. Less than one minute to the Intracoastal Waterway by boat. East Matagorda Bay in under five minutes. Charlie's Bait Camp and boat launch are right around the corner for live bait, ice, and whatever you forgot to pack.
What you're fishing for: Speckled trout · Redfish · Flounder · Black drum · Sheepshead · Blue crab
The Sunsets
Plan to be on the deck when the sun goes down. The way the light hits the Y at golden hour â amber and rose and deep gold spreading across the water â is the reason people keep coming back year after year. Bring your camera. You'll use it.
The Wildlife
Sargent sits on one of the great bird migration flyways of the Texas Gulf Coast. From your pier and deck you'll see great blue herons, roseate spoonbills, brown pelicans, and egrets working the shallows daily. Seasonal visitors include magnificent white pelicans and dozens of warbler species. The San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge is 45 minutes away if you want to go deeper into it.
