đ€ Neighbor Awareness
While you may never see them, there are neighboring homes through the woods. We kindly ask that you respect their privacy by staying within our property boundaries and keeping noise levels reasonable. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers shoreline is public, and you are welcome to explore along the waterâs edge as far as you wish.

đ„ Outdoor Living
The fire pit overlooking the private cove is a favorite gathering spot, complete with Adirondack chairs for evenings spent under the stars. It is perfect for quiet conversation, reflection, or simply enjoying the sounds of nature as the sun sets over Lake Lanier.
đ Lakeshore Access
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers property along the lakeshore is public land and may be freely explored. Guests are welcome to walk the shoreline, enjoy the waterâs edge, and take in the natural beauty that surrounds Huckleberry Hideaway.
đż The Experience
Huckleberry Hideaway is peaceful, natural, and intentionally simple. Wildlife sightings are common, mornings are quiet, and evenings are calm. This is a place to unplug, reflect, and enjoy nature without distractions, making it ideal for couples or solo travelers seeking solitude and renewal.
đĄ A Bit of History
The original structure was a 12 x 24 foot cabin built in 1985 by a scoutmaster who brought his scouts here to camp. At the time, it had no water or power, only a simple outhouse. In 2022, the cottage was thoughtfully expanded with the addition of a living room, and the original cabin was transformed into a full kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom complete with power, water, and heat and AC. The spirit of its humble beginnings remains, now paired with modern comfort.
đïž Living Area
You enter the cottage into the living space, filled with windows that frame peaceful views of the surrounding property. A door opens to the back deck and yard, inviting the outdoors in. A smart TV is mounted on a pull down bracket that extends approximately 27 inches, so please watch your head. The dining table doubles nicely as a workspace if needed. High speed fiber optic internet is provided, and games and puzzles are stored in the coffee table for relaxed evenings indoors.
đł Kitchen & Bath
The kitchen is small but well stocked and functional, featuring a midsize range, midsize refrigerator, and microwave. There is no dishwasher or ice maker, but ice trays are provided. The bathroom includes a step in shower and all the essentials for a comfortable stay.
đïž Bedroom
The bedroom offers a queen bed, a front double window, and sliding doors that lead directly to the back deck and yard, making mornings and evenings especially peaceful.

đż The Experience
Huckleberry Hideaway blends history, simplicity, and comfort. It is intentionally quiet, naturally immersive, and thoughtfully equipped, offering guests a place to slow down, reconnect, and enjoy a meaningful retreat surrounded by nature.
đ Driveway & Parking
There is parking for up to two vehicles directly in front of the cottage. The driveway is long, private, and gravel, offering a peaceful, tucked away setting. For the smoothest and most stress free arrival, we strongly recommend traveling to the property for the first time during daylight hours. This allows you to comfortably navigate the mountain roads and the private gravel drive with ease and confidence.
đ Uber & Lyft Availability
Uber and Lyft do operate in the general Lake Lanier and Gainesville area, however service is not guaranteed at Huckleberry Hideaway due to the rural location and long private gravel driveway. Some guests have been able to secure rides, while others have experienced longer wait times or difficulty finding a driver willing to travel out this far.
đ What We Recommend
For a smooth and stress free stay, we strongly recommend arriving with your own vehicle. This ensures reliable transportation for groceries, dining, wineries, and exploring nearby towns. If you plan to use Uber or Lyft, it is best to check availability in advance and be prepared for limited service, especially in the evenings or early mornings.
We want your experience at Huckleberry Hideaway to be relaxing, not stressful, and dependable transportation is an important part of that. If you need help planning ahead, Iâm always happy to guide you.
đ¶ Lake Access
There is a natural walking path from the gravel drive down to the lake, beginning near the old outhouse. Guests are welcome to carry their own kayak, canoe, or small boat along this path. Please note, there is no dock on the property.
đ€ Boat Ramp Access
A public boat ramp is located less than one mile away at Lula Park. Lake levels are managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and during periods of low water the ramp may be difficult to use. If lake access is important to your stay, we kindly recommend checking current water levels in advance.
