We had a great stay at this house. Check-in was so easy with timely messages for entry. The house was just as described. We had 3 generations so it was nice to have a multi-level place which gave a little more privacy. The bedrooms were comfortable, and the bathrooms looked like they had all been recently renovated. The kitchen was well stocked with anything we could want. The weather was delightful so we began and ended the day on the spacious patio. Several adults used the sauna and enjoyed it. The location was wonderful. We walked to town everyday, and with 2 small boys, it was so nice to be near the Rio Grande Park and John Denver Sanctuary. We could also walk to a nice grocery store which we did several times. We had a fabulous family vacation and this house was a great place to stay. Again the location was the best!!
We were extremely surprised when we opened the door only to find out that the house had no air conditioning for our July stay. Unfortunately, this fact was not stated anywhere in the property description. It was fine at night with the sliding glass doors open and fans going However, the Cottonwood was so bad that the house was filled with it. We have a couple people with allergies and my daughter had to leave and cut her trip short because she got so sick having it in the house and in her bedroom 24/7. We reached out to the owner however thereâs nothing that one could do. Response time was a little slow. The house itself is very interesting and at one time Iâm sure very cool. However, it is in desperate need of updating. couches, chairs, etc., are thread bare. The pillows are tired with use flat, kitchen, and pans are crusty and really old. it just overall felt a little icky.
The house was really amazing. Had everything we could have needed or asked for. 4 levels of bedrooms so each couple had their own area and that allowed for utmost privacy. Kitchen was fully equipped, and the hot tub and steam shower was a nice added bonus. Bathrooms were spacious and convenient to sleeping areas. Multiple den areas. Easy to relax.
Wonderful place to stay in the summer (we visited in July for 9 days). Great location - walk to John Denver Sanctuary, Clark's Market, the Rio Grande River and Trail and town. No need for a car unless you want to explore away from Aspen. The house was clean, comfortable and well supplied. We ate most dinners on the outside deck near the kitchen. We had no complaints. Great place to stay unless you have difficulty with stairs - there are lots of stairs. My wife and I are are in our 70s and the stairs were no problem for us - in fact we like the different levels in the house since they allow more privacy when in the bedrooms. However, someone who has difficulty with stairs might consider staying elsewhere. If you are not physically handicapped, this house is a wonderful place to stay!
My family and I love Ellen's house- best views in town, in an expansive eclectic setting- super convenient to downtown, Clarks, JBar, and mega shopping. Large parking space for 4 cars at premises. Amenities and provisioning are super. Lots of conversation, visiting and dining space- and huge decks on multi levels.
My wife and I decided to stay here with our kids and grandkids for a week of skiing. Everyone skied and enjoyed the ease of getting to all 4 mountains via the nearby Galena Bus route to the Ruby transit center. The house is within walking distance to the town center with great views of Ajax. The unique house design permitted the under 21âs their own private rooms while the adults could enjoy some quiet interludes. Walking the nearby trails showed off the magnificent homes in Aspen. Everyone left Aspen with great memories!
The house is so interestingâŠkind of a blast from the past. Everything worked out so well for our family of 4 adult children. Ellen was accommodating and communicative. Location was convenient to town but very private.
Had a group of 8 stay at this property and it was perfect! The distance to town is perfect. We walked everywhere. The steam room is big and can fit 4-5 people comfortably and the hot tub was great. 5 stars!
It is a wonderful property...we have stayed for several years and love it. It is wonderful for family and friends as each bedroom has their own private bathroom.
Also it is an easy walk to downtown.
Another fabulous stay in Aspen at Ellenâs house. Completely equipped, well appointed and perfect for a family get away. Completely walkable to town and Rio Grands Trail. Steps from the Roaring Fork.
This property is a totally unique home that feels as if itâs been built into the side of a mountain. (Yes, as a result there are many stairs - not for the mobility impaired!)
There are some small issues inherent to a big house that hasnât been fully renovated - the primary bedroom bathroom door sticks and the tap is leaky, for example. But overall this house is pretty awesome. I especially appreciated the big ice maker in the kitchen (renovated and lovely) and the steam shower / sauna on the ground floor. The walk to town is about 15 mins and the sidewalks, as with everywhere in Aspen, can be icy but itâs close enough to be do-able without a car (we didnât have one and that was fine).
The host was super communicative and helpful.
Would I stay here again with my friends? Absolutely!
It is a wonderful property where we have stayed yearly. It has spacious bedrooms & bathrooms far enough from each other, so everyone has privacy. In addition there are stacks of wood and kindling so every night we could be cozy around the fireplace playing games & watching TV.
It is truly a special place that the owners share with us!
This is a very unique property, situated to take in the magnificent views Aspen has to offer - it's really quite incredible. Each bedroom has its own balcony, along with a balcony for the main living area. You have beautiful views of Aspen, as well as the Roaring Fork River, and the town of Aspen.
Great property for rental with family. Location is ideal. Kitchen fully stocked with everything you might need. Easy walk into town and Rio Grande Trail. Highly recommend.
The property is a unique architectural gem built into the hillside over an old silver mine shaft and incorporates some of the mine shaft into the interior of the home. It sits on a small hill just above the roaring fork river enjoying magnificent views of Ajax Mountain and the river valley. It is only ten to fifteen minute walk into town, which allows one to avoid the challenge of finding a parking space in downtown Aspen. It was a pleasure coming home each day to such a beautiful home. However, all this does come with a lot of stairs as the house is built on four levels and the master bedroom is 2 1/2 flights below the entry. My wife and I (both in our seventies) found the multiple levels offered privacy (guests and/or family members on different floors), great views and good exercise, but be forewarned. Overall, both the house and Aspen are very special and we plan to return.
This is our 2nd year and it is a wonderful property. With so many levels it offers privacy for everyone and a middle level for everyone to eat and hang out. Plus the added feature of a real wood burning fireplace with wood supplied. Perfect!
I stayed with my family and another family for a week. The house was unique in its layout and architecture, and the location to downtown, the grocery/wine store, Hunter trailhead made it easy to walk everywhere. We especially enjoyed the outdoor patio, steam shower, and hot tub after morning hikes. The top floor bedroom gets very hot when temps reach high 80s. Overall, we were very happy to stay here!
This house is unique, beautiful and has everything you need for a group stay. The kitchen was loaded up with all the necessities (and more) for us to cook some great group meals. Short walk to all the restaurants/shopping. The steam room and hot tub were used a lot! The house has very cool architecture and the amount of windows allows for great views. The beds were very comfortable too.
The hosts were very easy to communicate with and we really appreciated them being flexible with leaving our suitcases in the house while we walked around the town before our flights home.
Thanks so much for a lovely stay - we will definitely be booking this house again in the future.
Our family of 5 adults had a perfect week at this beautifully appointed very large and perfectly located architect designed home.
Large living/dining/kitchen areas on main floorâand we gathered around the wood burning fireplace every morning and evening. Bedrooms spread over 4 floors have lots of privacy for everyoneâall bedrooms have their own bathrooms and decks with Ajax views. This is a family home with all the nice touches, well stocked kitchen and obvious care taken to make this a lovely place to stay. Would definitely recommend it for couples or families. (Stairs might be challenging with toddlers or elderly but we loved being spread out!) Owner and house manager were both welcoming and responsive to any inquires we had.
This home is so easy to love! The location is ideal. Walk to town, shopping, and restaurants. Great hiking trails are just steps away. The free shuttle is also steps away and it will drop you at the base of the gondola.
