Extremely Disappointing ExperienceMy stay at this Palm Desert condo was unacceptable. Upon arrival Tuesday, the unit was 89F because the AC had not been turned on. It took 7 hours to cool down. The floors were so dirty the bottoms of my feet turned black. The sheets were old and pilling, the bedding was stained, and the wall furnace filter was dirty. There were no washcloths, dishcloths, or dish detergent.Most disturbing were the ants crawling all over the kitchen counters, coffee maker, and paper towel roll, as well as in both bathrooms. I had no way of feeling comfortable preparing or cooking food in that kitchen.When I contacted the booking company, I was told the previous renter had reported the same bug problem. However, the company said the owner would not authorize an exterminator, and they were afraid they would not be paid if they sent one. The same issue prevented them from sending a house cleaner. Nothing was done to resolve the problem.I ultimately left the condo and paid out of pocket for a hotel for the remainder of my stay. The booking company had communicated through VRBO messaging that I would receive a 50% refund. After I left in reliance on that promise, they reversed their position and now refuse to refund anything.This experience was stressful, costly, and completely unacceptable. Basic cleanliness, pest control, and a properly prepared rental should be the bare minimum. I would not stay here again.
