My family had a great time getting out of the city! House is charming and just as pictured. We spent a lot of time in the pool which was very clean and the perfect temp! Host was very responsive and helpful. Would definitely stay again
Beautiful property with a beautiful view. Great communication with the hosts. The heated pool was a great benefit for this rainy weekend. Super comfy beds. Loved Callicoon, a little town 15mn drive away.
We rented to be near a concert at Bethel woods, easy 1/2 hour ride. House is just as expected, Marcus communicated well and answered our inquiries quickly! The pool is amazing, front porch was a favorite spot for morning coffee and conversations watching 2 beautiful horses across the street. Kitchen was very well stocked. Flower gardens are well tended and enjoyable with the views surrounding property, small waterfall was a nice surprise!
Well, first and foremost the house was charming! It was such a wonderful experience and Marcus was beyond accommodating. The entire outdoor space was great, thatâs where my family and I spent most of our time. The house was fully equipped, all we really needed to bring was food and drinks because aside from that everything was provided. Definitely will be back again!
Marcus was a very informative and helpful host. The house and yard were beautiful, especially after a fresh snowstorm! We enjoyed exploring Long Eddy and Callicoon, which was a quick drive and offered really nice scenery. Marcus kept his home in great condition, with a shoveled driveway and walk path to the back door. He offered good suggestions for places to go, so we enjoyed some snow tubing and nearby restaurants/distillery. Our dog, Jones, loved our experience too! He even met some new friends across the road, a cow and horse. Overall, we had a quiet, yet adventurous weekend and would loved to stay with Marcus in the future. Thank you!
I understand now why there are so many pictures not of the house and some of the pictures must be a decade old. The house is just short of disrepair and any efforts at all to maintain it would go a long way. Pool was dirty when we we arrived and although a cleaner was promised to show, never did. There were mice which left droppings around the house. Doors to bathrooms donât close and latch or latch and lock you in. Pool was heated and usable which was nice. Marcus was easy to get a hold of as needed but not local so canât really help with anything. Kitchen has every utensil you can think of. Wonât stay again.
We chose to stay here because I wanted someplace quiet to write that also offered fun things for the kids.
The house has a lot of character and the scenery is beautiful. My family was very comfortable in the home. I saw someone complained about counter space but I guess we are used to that since we have an old home too! That wasnât an issue. We ate some meals in and traveled to Callicoon to eat a few times. We really liked the town of Callicoon.
The pool was fantastic. Our older kids were in and out all day. There was a pool guy who came out and cleaned it while we were there.
Itâs mentioned that the home doesnât have AC. We were there at the end of July/early August and this was not an issue. Iâm picky and always have my AC on at home but itâs much cooler here. It was nice to have the windows open and enjoy those cool evenings.
While I worked, my husband took the kids to Bethel Woods and said that was wonderful. There is a museum there that they recommend. If you are staying over the summer, there is a farm stand a couple miles up the road with great fresh veggies.
I was able to get some Verizon service while at the home. I just had to be in certain spots.
We had the electricity go out while we were there and it required an elelectrician. The owner quickly responded and had someone out to fix it immediately.
My kids were sad when it came time to head home. We hope to return next summer and maybe stay a little longer. This is where you want to go to get away from it all.
I pride myself on being a patient and tolerant person and hate to leave negative reviews, but feel this rental deserves an honest one. Before getting into the reasons behind the 2/5 stars, I would like to state that communicating with Marcus was 100% positive - Marcus was responsive and pleasant.
This house is, however, just not set up comfortably for vacation renters. At the time of booking, the post wasn't explicit that there was no air conditioning. While I'm guessing it isn't needed 90% of the time and reasonable that a 100 year old farmhouse is without AC, we arrived during a heat wave to a closed up house, we were surprised and frustrated. There were plenty of fans in the house, so we got past it.
The rest of our 4 night stay was spent repairing and doing maintenance work on the house and pool. The pool was murky and full of bark and leaves (the pool cleaner simply not adequate), so we spent the entire extended weekend vacation cleaning the gunk out by hand. The garbage disposal wasn't working and clogged, so we unclogged the disposal (not something we wanted to do on holiday). The toilets were finicky and we were constantly repairing them.
The furnishings were modest, particularly in the living room (there wasn't really a good room for hanging out, although we spent most of our time outdoors). The kitchen was however fully stocked with pots, pans and utensils.
This home needs some TLC.
The pool was awesome, and the kids loved the toys, costumes, and games in the house. It was a remote spot, but we found Buckbrook Alpaca farm and Goldscheinâs Homestead within a reasonable drive to pet and feed adorable animals. We spent some time in Callicoon for groceries and restaurants. We also went tubing at Skinnerâs Falls. We had a great time!
Stayed with a group of friends attending Jimmy Buffett concert at Bethel Woods. Drive to venue about 35 minutes. Property was big with a great pool. Quiet area, great starry night. Had everything we needed! Would stay again!
We came for the pool, and the country setting. And it certainly lived up to our expectations.
I would highly recommend a stay in this property.
I only gave a four star rating under communication because I was surprised when a box truck showed up with a washing machine delivery, and didn't know what to do until a neighbor came over to sign for it. I was waiting for an email response about using the barbeque grill at the time. But everything worked out great.
And I had an amazing experience.
Our second night, I stayed in the pool, with the fire pit blazing, stargazing, until 11pm. The water was 30 degrees warmer than the night air by the time i got out. It was perfect. My son was creeped out in the dark though. Maybe a few solar lights could be positioned around the pool.
I couldnt get the gas grill to light. But I'm a charcoal fan anyway. And dont really have any gas grill experience. So I was probably just doing it wrong.
And we couldnt get the tv to work for us.
But the wifi was adequate enough for me to scroll and post on social media.
The man-made waterfall feature in the back was a lovely surprise. Not sure why it's not mentioned in the listing.
My only recommendation for renters would be to air out the house upon arrival. Window screens and fans are provided. (No A/C)
Thank you Marcus. And your friendly neighbors.
The home was located right in the middle of mountains and beautiful nature! We really enjoyed the pool, the fact that it was heated made it comfortable at night and when it was cooler in the day. I appreciated the rustic/old farm home style of the home, however there were a few upgrades Iâd make for comfort, those include adding some more blinds/curtains in the bedrooms (very sunny), and then looking into the water pressure of the shower and the floor mat / curtain for the shower because it was hard not to get everything wet. Other than that we thought the home was comfortable, very pretty and the pool made the experience very fun. We cooked every meal in the kitchen and it worked out great. We also found the fans very helpful if it did get warm, and the space works for 8 people. Thanks!
Had an amazing time with a group of 8. House was comfortable and well stocked, pool was excellent, and the secluded location provided for an excellent weekend with friends!
Marcus is a responsive, wonderful and hospitable host. Regrettably, I agree with previous visitors- the house does need work. Living room furniture requires updating except the White couch. Beds were comfortable. Kitchen is incredibly supplied with every pots and pans you can ever need. Pool was a huge plus, clean and well maintained. Bugs were a non issue at all, perhaps because we visited in September and temperature was relatively low. That said however, the road is a bit too close to the house and a meaningful 'backyard' is simply non existent. Overall, location is excellent, Callicoon is a wonderful town and the Upper Delaware River area is spectacular.
I stayed here for the labor day weekend with my fiance and some friends. The heated pool was the highlight of our trip. Marcus, the host, was responsive & very helpful. The kitchen is well equipped, has everything you may require, including grilling equipment for the charcoal grill outside. There is a big enough table & some chairs at the back for 6 people to sit which makes for a good grilling & eating spot. There is some lawn space on the side & front of the house where you can also picnic and look at the horse & cow across the street.
However, the house on the inside needs upgrades. There are 4 bedrooms (all upstairs), but only 2 are big enough for a couple, and 3 of 4 have no dresser/closet space. There are 2 bathrooms, but only one of them has a shower. The other bathroom upstairs has only a tub - so we ended up using only one bathroom for bathing. When we checked in, the house had a musty smell. That is understandable on the countryside and given the time of the year, but when we started opening the windows we realized the window frames don't have any fitted screens. There are self-made screens available throughout the house which you have to manually fit yourself in the frames if you want fresh air. Since the house is quite old, not each window frame is well oiled & smooth - so this takes a bit of time & effort. The front porch could do with some painting & carpentry work and the overall furniture, bolts & locks are outdated as well
Lastly, the house is at least 20 mins away from the nearest store (which closes at 5 PM) so you will have to plan ahead and arrive with all paper & food products for your stay. This is an old 19th century house and has a charming feel about it, but you have to be prepared for it.
We were looking for a property with a great private pool, and the pool was really great (and scenic - looking out at the mountains). The kitchen was very well equipped and the dining room was warm and spacious.
The bedrooms and bathrooms were a bit of a disappointment. Only one of the four bedrooms has a dresser, which is not great for long-term stays (the other rooms are probably too small for dressers) and the hardware (curtain rods, towel racks, bed frames, door locks, etc) all malfunctioned on us in various ways. The wifi was untenable - but to be fair Marcus warned us in advance that it wasn't great and I think he has also since looked into upgrading it. The house could also use some properly fitted screens. The current screens leave way too much space for the bugs to get in.
It's a great space (I think the listing actually undersells the living room area which is really more like two rooms), Marcus was easy to communicate with, and I would definitely consider going back after some small upgrades.
We had a very relaxing time in long Eddy. The house was just as advertised, the closest neighbors were a cow and a horse. The heated pool was perfect and private, also very nice sized. The kids loved the place and wanted to go back next week. Lol
We had a lovely time. The pool was fantastic. Location is very secluded, beautiful, and out of the way, which we enjoyed. The kitchen was very well equipped with every tool, pan, and gadget you could need. Only bring food and spices. Grill worked great. One note is the tv is small and the internet is very slow so you canât stream tv successfully. The living room couches were also falling apart and pretty uncomfortable. We went out and bought a DVD player, he said one would be arriving soon. There is a decent selection of dvds there though. The only time we really watched tv anyway was at night after the kids were asleep. Lots of bugs (which we expected in the country) and no proper screens in the windows, only half screens that you put into the open window which left gaps for bugs to enter. We just shut the windows but still had tons of fireflies inside the house after the few times we had them open with screens (which was actually pretty cool at night once they started lighting up) but in hotter months this would be challenging with no AC. This is to be expected in the woods though. Overall it was very peaceful and relaxing and we very much enjoyed ourselves. The house is charming and the pool was great, we would recommend the house and enjoyed our stay.
We loved our stay at Long Eddy. It was a lovely ride through the mountains. We enjoyed the scenery and the solitude. The home was full of turn of the century charm . We especially loved playing cards on the large dining room table . We used the pool both day and evening and would have gone in at night as well if there were better outdoor lighting.
We took short trips to the Buck Brook Alpaca farm, Mountain BrauHaus and Sam's Point at Minnewaska State Park.
Hope to stay again!
My family had a very nice three night stay. We spent much of the time in and around the pool. Our kids loved it! The house was comfortable and provided all we needed. The only addition I would make is to have some dressers in the bedrooms. The kitchen was fully stocked and ready for serious cooking. There were cool toys, games and dvds too. Bonnie and Marcus were very helpful, and even provided a Fire pit and wood when we asked about it.
All in all a fun and relaxing getaway.
Few places capture both the comfort and ease of a weekend retreat and the absolute peace and quiet of our 100-year old country house 2 1/2 hours away from New York City.
Idyllic natural beauty! Hikes, canoeing and nature trails. A fully-stocked kitchen for crafting awesome meals to have around the gracious family table. Nearby Callicoon-on-the-Delaware with brew pubs and restaurants and small-town country charm just 15 minutes away!
