Welcome to Kota Ridge, a peaceful family retreat in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Set on 13 serene acres with panoramic views, this rustic 3-bedroom lodge blends rich oak interiors, majestic stone walls, and modern comfort. Minutes from Watauga Lake, enjoy abundant wildlife, scenic trails, and endless outdoor adventures for all ages.
We want you to enjoy your stay with maximum privacy and comfort. Our property management system allows for seamless self-check-in, and hosts are readily available via phone call or digital communication should you need assistance.
Kota Ridge is nestled in a tranquil area of Butler, Tennessee, part of the enchanting Watauga Lake community. This region is cherished for its pristine natural beauty, clean air, and the sense of peace that comes from being surrounded by the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains.
The area offers a perfect blend of seclusion and accessibility. While you'll feel wonderfully removed from the hustle of everyday life, you're still within easy reach of local amenities. Mountain City (30 minutes away) provides essential services, while Johnson City (50 minutes away) offers more extensive shopping, dining, and entertainment options.
Outdoor enthusiasts will find paradise here with multiple marinas around Watauga Lake, access to the Appalachian Trail, and countless hiking paths that showcase the region's spectacular beauty. The changing seasons bring their own special magic, from spring wildflowers and summer lake activities to the breathtaking fall foliage and winter's peaceful snowy landscapes.
The property is accessible via a well-maintained mountain road. A standard vehicle can navigate it easily during good weather, though we recommend four-wheel drive during winter months if snow is in the forecast. There is ample parking space for multiple vehicles on the property.
The main house is a single-level structure with just a few steps at the entrance, making it relatively accessible. Once you book, you'll receive detailed check-in instructions and door codes for keyless entry, allowing you to arrive at your convenience.
The main lodge features three comfortable bedrooms designed to accommodate up to 8 guests. The primary bedroom features two queen beds and an attached bathroom, while the second bedroom offers a king bed. The dedicated kids' room includes a full-sized bed with a pull-out and a bunk bed with twin mattresses, creating a perfect space for children. A second full bathroom serves these rooms.
Throughout the lodge, heated stone floors provide cozy warmth underfoot, and the efficient climate control system ensures year-round comfort. Every window frames a stunning view, connecting indoor living spaces with the natural beauty outside.
The property's front 6 acres offering panoramic mountain vistas and the remaining wooded area providing a sense of peaceful seclusion. Ample outdoor seating and a patio area allow you to fully immerse yourself in the tranquil mountain atmosphere.
A personal vehicle is essential for exploring this beautiful mountain region. The property is approximately:
- 40 minutes from Boone, North Carolina
- 30 minutes from Mountain City, Tennessee
- 50 minutes from Johnson City, Tennessee
- 134 miles from Charlotte, North Carolina (about 2.5)
- 225 miles from Raleigh, North Carolina (about 3h45m)
For those flying in, the closest major airports are Tri-Cities Airport (TRI) in Blountville, TN (about 1 hour away) and Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CL) in Charlotte, NC.
- IMPORTANT: Hot tub and sauna are both under construction and not usable right now. We have discounted the property accordingly, and expect to have these online ~Sept 2025.
