The Good: Property was mostly as advertised--well-stocked kitchen, balconies, and ocean in the distance visible via binoculars and through the trees. We appreciated the close proximity to town and activities.
The Bad: We werenât fans of the dusty dĂ©cor or spent candles supposedly offering âromanticâ ambience. Extremely dim lighting that is ironic considering the blazing lights in the photos on the website. Two standing lights in the living room did not work, and the overhead light was terribly dim. Bedroom lights were equally dim or not functioning. There is no functioning exterior light at the door to the unit (at least not one we found), so thank goodness for a flashlight on the smartphone! If you go out at night, keep the light on in the stairwell so you donât stumble up the stairs. Speaking of stairs, those decorative pots are a safety hazard, particularly when bringing luggage up and down the stairs. Cable TV and Internet werenât working all weekend. John showed up to check on it, called the cable company, but they couldnât do anything in a timely manner. It was an irritation that we handled. Most tenants would appreciate more than two washcloths per stay, and one roll of single-ply TP for four days was super stingy! They should stock toilet paper and tissue at the unit. They should also either replace all the used toiletries procured from their own hotel stays or dump them. The bed needs a king-sized comforter instead of a queen that doesnât fit. They could use some nicer pillows. Several on the bed were flat and spent.
The Ugly: No air-conditioning!!!! Despite the claim that adding AC takes away from the historic charm of the building, if they have heat, they can install AC. We noticed a space heater in the closet indicating some tenants must need it in the winter. The owners should be as thoughtful for tenants in the summer/fall and provide either a standing fan or install a ceiling fan in the bedroom. We stayed four nights, and two were utterly miserable. There were no ocean breezes offering any relief during those two nights. I don't think our expectations are too high, and for this price, we deserve a good night's sleep on a comfortable bed.
Bottom line: We wonât be returning.
