The host was very attentive and made our stay the best! The house was just amazing âŠsuch Key West character, very Zen. The patio in the back had beautiful palm trees, orchids and lots of privacy⊠We had a wonderful stay!!
This bungalow is charming with a lovely front porch, comfortable living area and fully equipped kitchen. The back deck is private and has a table for outdoor dining as well as a comfortable seating area. It was all I had hoped for and more.
Stephanie made everything easy, the house is well supplied with great outdoor seating. When coming back to Key West this property will be are go to listing.
We lucked out on finding this house when we decided on a whim to add December to our usual 3 month stay. The house was very roomy, the bed was very comfortable and we loved spending the end of our days on the front porch with our coffee and dinners on the deck. I would suggest some extra lighting on the deck for dining though as it was a bit dark even with the garden lights on! Stephanie was very responsive to a couple of issues that arose. We loved the location and the closeness to the small grocery store. Thank you Stephanie for sharing your lovely home!
House was very dark, inadequate lighting.
Not very clean
Second Bedroom totally unusable
Poor lighting in kitchen area
No indoor eating area
Bed lumpy
Furnishings in poor condition.
Both the property and location are perfect. In fact, to be perfectly candid, if my girlfriend wouldn't have objected to me leaving Boston this summer, I would have absolutely tried to rent the same unit from Stephanie again...but this time for both the months of June and July. That said, I will be back at some point, and I'll definitely look for this specific property again.
Concerning the house, I spent a lot of time on both the front and back porch listening to music and enjoying the atmosphere. It was simply perfect for me. Regarding location, since I spent most of my time on the beach, I would say it's a 10 minute walk to the Southernmost Point Beach Cafe and a 20 minute walk to Lagerheads (best beach bar on the planet) to the north. I pretty much ate breakfast at Sandy's every morning (best breakfast on the island), which is literally on the other block. Dinner at my favorite restaurant, the Little Pearl, is about a 7 minute walk down the street. Try the pot pie. My second favorite, Off the Hook, was just a couple minutes further down the street. Get the Grouper and the Gobbler. For those interested, a decently priced grocery store is walkable and just a few streets over. Bike rental is next door and the beer store is at the end of the block. Also, the neighbors were super nice.
Overall, the unit was clean and put together well, the owner was super responsive to any questions, and the location was ideal. I couldn't have dreamed of a better vacation in Key West. I think a lot had to do with the house. I'll be back. Soon.

The location is great, but we found many issues upon our arrival! Overall cleanliness was not good, poor to be exact. We had to spend the first part of our visit cleaning and rearranging the house. Our stay was for a month and had no place to put food as every cupboard had items in it. While cleaning, we found many bugs were in the kitchen cupboards! We had to put all our food in bags. We killed many cockroaches as well!! There was no dresser to put clothes in and no hangers in the closet. Owner was responsive and brought over hangers but there was not enough places to put all our clothes. We had to live out of our suitcase for the entire visit. Here's a list of other subpar conditions: kitchen sink was clogged, garbage disposal did not work, kitchen faucet was practically hanging off, kitchen drawer was broken off and laying against the wall. A handyman came over on the 3rd day and fixed these but the sink became clogged and the garbage disposal stopped working again. Broken patio furniture, nasty iron, no vacuum. Again, owner acted quickly on these items and rectified. Others... pillow covers were nasty, construction next door for the first week, electricity went out, cable TV went out and lost wifi for approx. 4-5 days. Some of these issues were out of the owner's control, but when you add them all up, it made for an unpleasant experience, thus a 1 star review!
If youâre looking for a real IN Key West experience, this homeâs location is great for walking to nearby shops, restaurants, etc. and a short bike ride to Fort Taylor which we loved. Perfect size for myself and I had one friend come along. All needed items were available in kitchen and bath. The outside sitting area is a great spot to unwind.
The owner is attentive and responds quickly and kindly to messages. Would stay here again.
Great, central location. We loved the eclectic, yet serene vibe of the house and spent many a morning/afternoon enjoying the back patio or front porch with our dogs. Stephanie, the property owner, was wonderfully accommodating and responsive.
The Varela Street location was a convenient half mile to 1 mile walking distance to the restaurants, shops, and beaches. The accommodations were fine for our party of two and two dogs. This was a great, affordable way to spend a month in the Keys.
I spent 10 weeks here while on a work assignment in Key West and it was a great little spot for me and my pup to call home for a summer. It's convenient to everywhere (Duval St, Higgs Beach and dog park, etc), but a quiet neighborhood. Although I never met her, Stephanie was easy to communicate with and generally responsive. The kitchen was well-stocked for cooking. The furnishings and decor could use some major updating to be a fully functioning vacation rental. The kitchen table is an awkward shape and size, and there is no full size couch, just a pretty awkward wicker love seat. Especially on an extended stay like this, it was a bummer not having a place to get comfortable at the end of the day. The outdoor space is really nice. Both the dog and I really enjoyed having the privat fenced in space back there!
This location is close to most attractions while remaining a quite home environment. The property owner was very attentive and easy to reach. The house was very clean and with all that you would need to be able to cook. Parking was very easy to find and neighbors were really friendly as well. I would consider coming back to this house on my next visut to Key West.
We are not the typical KW "vacationers"; as we lived there for 8 years until recently. That being said we were pleased with the size and location of the house. The front porch was wonderful for sitting and the back deck was wonderful for entertaining. There were a few issues during our stay here; some the owner fixed right away. Other issues I never brought up because, as I said before, we are not the typical KW vacationers...we stayed at the house for a month and spent more time there than doing any of the tourist things most people do. I was disappointed by the living room furniture as it was not very comfortable (for us, that is) and really no full couch to allow us to stretch out and watch tv. Also I cooked most of our meals instead of eating out, like most people on vacation would do. The kitchen, while spacious enough, needed more glass casserole cook/bake ware (this is just my opinion) and plastic storage containers. And there was an abundance of wine glasses but not but not many beverage glasses. I would have preferred a bigger coffee pot, but we made the 4 cup one work for us. I would have preferred a tv in the bedroom, but again, this is my preference. I would recommend this cottage to anyone who visits KW. Thanks again, Stephanie, for all you did for us. Hope to see you again soon!
