This is a beautiful home to spend your vacation or a weekend away. It is just one block from a super cute coffee shop and barely a block from the beach. We had a fantastic time. You can easily walk to Haystack rock. Itâs a quiet and lovely location with everything you could possibly need. Most important to me is that the bed was incredibly comfortable and warm highly recommend.
We absolutely loved our stay. The beds were so comfy. The room that my husband, my 3 year old and 10 month old stayed in was dark so we could get as much sleep as possible. The couches were so comfy as well. We enjoyed the kitchen and the bbq for dinners at home. The kitchen was extremely well stocked. We loved the little bath on the main floor for our toddlers. The den was much appreciated on the main floor with the television so our little ones could watch shows while we visited. The house was so close to the beach which worked really well for us. House is also close to a coffee shop, pub, and grocery store. Everything was so great!!
Nice location away from busy downtown but close to a very beautiful area of beach. My family enjoyed our stay, loved having fires on the beach. The house was equipped with all necessities including plenty of towels, soap, tp, etc. We were all very comfortable staying here and would return if ever in the area again.
This is the 3rd time I've rented this great house to host a number for friends from different parts of the country, all of whom love Cannon Beach. This time there were 7 of us and the house easily accommodated us. The kitchen is very well equipped; there are even good knives, everyone found the beds to be comfortable, there was plenty of hot water. The view from the deck makes cocktail time even more enjoyable. The location can't be beat. I hope to be able to make a return visit next Spring.
My family had never visited Cannon Beach and we were blown away by the beauty of this place. The Dorothy Lou Beach home was perfect regarding location, convenience and outdoor/indoor spaces.
Everything was great, our stay at the Dorothy Lou has become a yearly tradition. The house fits our family perfectly and itâs an easy walk to the beach. The decks are great to sit and relax.
return trip to Dorothy Lou Home for a 3-generation family vacation
We had another very enjoyable week at the coast thanks in large part to this ideal home setting. The home and kitchen are very well-equipped and the location is ideal - a short walk to the beach; far enough from town to escape some of the busyness, but close enough to make it there and back on a nice beach walk. Sand toys our 2 and 5-year-old grandchildren, a pack-n-play for the 8 mo. old to sleep in; a wagon for transporting toys, wood, s'more and hot dog fixings to the beach. A nice spacious 2nd floor open living room/kitchen for all, and 2 nice outdoor decks, with the back deck looking out onto a green space. Ample and nicely furnished bedrooms to accommodate a large extended family. We hope to return in the future.
Our family (my husband and I, our 7 year old son, and his grandparents) all loved staying at the Dorothy Lou. The home itself is very clean and well appointed, plenty of towels and linens. Having access to the beach, amazing coffee shop, and grocery store all within walking distance made our stay a breeze. Some of our favorite memories we will take from the trip are our morning walks to the tide pools by Haystack Rock and playing board games around the table in the evenings. We would love to stay again!
I booked in for a 9 night stay this year and had a number of friends come and go over that time. Everyone enjoyed their stay. The house is very well equipped, the beds are comfortable, there is an ocean view from the living room and deck and from one of the bedrooms upstairs, the location is terrific and Karl, the owner, is very responsive and quickly answers any questions. I hope that we can come again next year.
This was a great property and experience and it enhanced our visit to Cannon Beach. The location is perfect for access to the beach, hikes, biking, shopping, etc. We would definitely stay here again when we visit Cannon Beach.
This house is perfect. Plenty of space for everyone to move around. The decks are great for catching some afternoon sun and the kitchen has everything you need. The owner is prompt with check in details and very reachable if needed. This was our 3rd stay and already have the house booked for next summer. Beach is also a very short and easy walk.
The Dorothy Lou home was ideal for our extended family vacation. Very nice and spacious 2nd floor living space and dining area with access to 2 decks. Very well-equipped kitchen. The owner had beach toys available in the garage for our 2 and 4 year old granddaugthers, beach chairs for the 1st generation, and a wagon to transport it all on the short walk to the beach.
Owner Karl was helpful and very responsive to messages.
This was a very comfortable setting for my two grown daughters and myself for a couple of days while we explored Cannon Beach. We were very pleased to be a little removed from the busier part of Cannon Beach and enjoyed walking down to the nearby pub for beers and dinner and to the two stores to get any missing items.
The kitchen seemed well stocked, although we did no cooking. The beds were all comfortable and had plenty of extra blankets available if needed. It is worth noting that there are two steep flights of stairs in this house and one flight is unavoidable if one is to make use of the kitchen and communal area of the home.
Wow! Had the time of our lives. Plenty of room to sleep our family of 5 adults and 4 children with one under 2. Had pack and play for baby to sleep in, and high chair too. Close walk to the beach. Only problem we had was it had a lot stairs, which we already knew, but the grandson broke his ankle the first day and that was a challenge. We still had a great time and I would recommend this place as a great place to stay. Thank you to the Hadley family for opening their home up to us.
Hi, we are Karl & Kelly, co-owners of The Dorothy Lou. We are native Washingtonians & we enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking, boating, good music and good food often shared with family or friends. We're experienced property managers, having operated a Hood River VRBO vacation home for 20 years. We bring those skills and customer service to this home in Cannon Beach, OR.
Cannon Beach is a long time favorite destination of ours, and Karl's mother, Dorothy, purchased this home in 1980 when her mother died. On Dorothy's passing in 2013, we just couldn't sell the home, so we decided to buy it, and did an extensive remodel in 2016. To honor my mother's memory and her affection for Cannon Beach, we've named the home after her.
It is just a short 2 minute walk to the beach, and situated away from the more crowded area of Cannon Beach proper. Haystack is in sight & just a 10 minute stroll away. You'll also enjoy quick access to Highway 101 if you want to explore towns to the south, like Manzanita, Nehalem, Rockaway & Tillamook, or beaches like Hug Point, or Oswald State Park. To the North is Seaside, Gearhart and Astoria, with great history of the Lewis and Clark Trail, Maritime museums, great golf courses, restaurants and breweries.
