Welcome to Rockneâs Retreat
Notre Dame Stadium, famously known as âThe House that Rockne Built,â owes much of its legacy to Knute Rockne, one of college footballâs greatest coaches, who was instrumental in its creation in 1930. Rockneâs Retreat, however, is âThe House that Knute Rockneâs Secretary Builtââquite literally! Built in 1929 by Herbert E. Jones, Knute Rockneâs trusted secretary, this historic home carries a deep connection to Notre Dame and Irish football.
Over the years, Rockneâs Retreat has hosted many notable guests. According to legend, the entire 1943 National Championship football team and coaching staff gathered here to celebrate their victory, joined by Coach Frank Leahy. The house has also welcomed luminaries like Billy Martin of the New York Yankees, Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, and even Father Hesburgh, each of whom is said to have enjoyed time in this very living room.
Rockneâs Retreat is truly one-of-a-kind, offering not only rich history but an unbeatable location for all Notre Dame fans and history buffs alike.
