Cozy cabin on Jasper side of Smith Lake. Close to all amenities!
Last Straw Lodge is one of the most unique houses on Smith Lake. Located on Jasper side by Duncan Bridge. Closest spot to restaurants, grocery, boat launch and downtown Jasper as it gets! Located in a protected cove so you wonât get rocked on the dock. Thereâs plenty of outdoor place for the kid and furry friends to play. Relax by the fire, play corn hole, throw the football on the flat yard or enjoy the sunset on the amazing dock! This place is vacation turnkey!
We had such a great stay at this super cool, straw-insulated bohemian house. The loft was really neat, and the whole place was beautifully decorated and so comfortable. There was more than enough room for our family of five. The kitchen cabinets had plenty of dishes and extra supplies that came in handy, and the Blackstone was awesome for cooking meals. We loved gathering around the fire pit on the patio for sâmores in the evenings. The house was located at an awesome spot for swimming and relaxing by the water, and the boathouse was so nice. Jasper itself was an adorable town, and the grocery store was just minutes away. We also discovered a trail at Clear Creek Campground right by the lake, which was a fun bonus. This spot was the perfect mix of cozy, convenient, and uniqueâweâd definitely stay here again!
LOVED the location of this place! The cove was very well protected from the waves of main channel and the boathouse was great for parking our boat. The place is small and true to what is listed. Its was very clean and had a great couch to relax on and watch a movie with kiddos after a full day enjoying the lake. If I had to say something negative I wish there were thick curtains or blinds that could be pulled up and down because the sun comes raging in first thing in the morning. Another great thing we loved is that this property is pet friendly! We definitely want to come back.
While the location was very good and the property manager was very responsive in communications, the property was out-right dangerous. There were numerous electrical safety issues. The bath tub was very dangerous, for my handicapped wife and elderly in-laws. There was, what appeared to be, black mold on the wall in the bathroom. Numerous dangerous holes in the decking and rotten wood on the steps. The stairs up to the loft were also very dangerous. I understand that this house was an attempt at a traditional straw house, the finish work and cleanliness of the house were not good at all. I've included many pictures to show the issues we found.
Beautiful little place to relax. Love the feel of the house. Love to look out and see the water. Nice little place close to town but just far enough away to collect your thoughts.
