We had a wonderful time staying at the home and playing at Bretwood! Everything we needed was available and Ruth was an amazing host! We plan to book again for sure!
My wife and I were looking for a quiet place to celebrate our anniversary and this place was perfect for us! The location was great and we were able to enjoy several great restaurants in the area as well as take some nice walks on nearby trails. Our host Ruth was very accommodating and responsive during our visit. We would absolutely consider coming again.
What a beautiful place to stay! The house was perfect for our family, and the younger kids loved staying in the loft above the garage. We had one small problem while we were there, which Ruth handled very quickly. Even the neighbor we met at the shared dock was great. I would highly recommend this place!
Ruth was easy to work with and the house was perfect - cozy and clean with all the amenities of a home. Blankets, fire pit, gas stove, dimmer lights, and more. Thank you Ruth for the opportunity to celebrate a special birthday at your lovely cabin!
Everything was great. Ruth was very responsive and accommodating! Nothing major but we werenât aware that the 3rd bedroom was above the unattached garage although itâs very nice!!
My KSC college roommates and I had a spectacular reunion after many years at this property last weekend. The house is so cozy and has all the amenities - it's well stocked with supplies and kitchen tools/utensils, a beautiful gas stove, and very comfortable beds. The bedroom above the garage is also fabulous. The lake is gorgeous and the walk around it on the dirt road is so peaceful. I think this is the perfect spot for future reunions and we can't wait to come back! The owner is so kind and communicative, and I appreciated her guidance on how to make the best of our stay. Thank you so much!
Photos don't do justice to this gracious, fully equipped lake home. Spacious inside and outside for our family of six adults and one child. The screen porch was perfect for meals. The dock on the beautiful, clear lake was big enough for chairs and families. The kayaks were a blast! We only used the outdoor shower--not to be missed. The bunk house over the garage was huge and had bumper pool! Owner Ruth was very responsive and accommodating. Many happy memories were created here! We would love to return soon!
This house was perfect for two couples. It was close to local golf courses and wonderful restaurants in Keene. It was nestled into a natural wooded area which was so pretty in the fall. The living room had plenty of comfortable furniture and the gas fireplace added to the coziness. In addition, there is an outdoor fire pit which we used in the late afternoon. There is one bathroom which is quite small however there is an outdoor shower. One bedroom had a good size television and both bedrooms had full length mirrors which made it easy to get dressed in the morning. The lake is beautiful and if the weather was warmer we would have sat out on the dock. We did get nice pictures of the foliage reflecting in the lake. All in all I would recommend this home. We would definitely stay here again!
From the moment we pulled up to the property we were in love with it! The house exterior is adorable and well kept. The property itself was spacious and private.
The home was well equipped and accommodating. Plenty of pots and pans, dishes, utensils etc. Towels were plentiful...for showers and beach. The indoor shower was only used once....the outdoor shower was a favorite!
The beds were comfortable as were the plush down comforters. The bonus room above the garage was perfect for our teenagers.
Extra blankets were around for our chilly nights and early mornings.
The dock was a short walk across the road. We kayaked, canoed and brought our rafts and inner tubes. The lake was quiet enough for leisurely rows.
Our evenings and early mornings were spent by the firepit, which had plenty of seating.
We truly enjoyed our stay in what we called our "Pottery Barn Cabin". We will definitely be back!
The Swanzey Lake house is just as charming as it looks in the photos. It was chilly while we were there, but the heaters and fireplace kept us cozy. The kitchen is very well stocked and we enjoyed cooking some meals for our 92 year old father who still lives in the area. The bedrooms are spacious and nicely decorated, and we slept well. Highly recommend.
My friends and I had a lovely fall weekend in the cabin. Keene is so close which is nice but we felt secluded away from other tourists. Great location to get to all the covered bridges too! We had plenty of space though didnât realize the cabin is only 2 bed with the third bedroom over the garage, thought it was a bonus space. Overall great property for a cozy cabin retreat
This was our second time staying at this cozy home. Ruth provides everything you could possibly need. There is a new large bathroom in the loft above the garage with a wonderful ârainâ shower. This loft space would be perfect for a family with children or teenagers.
We sat out in the evening by the fire pit and although we didnât use it this time, there is a beautiful screened in area for hot summer nights when bugs are out.
Unfortunately we didnât spend much time on the lake. We spent our days golfing at the gorgeous Bretwood golf course. The house is a short distance to Keene where we found many good restaurants. We had a great time at this house and definitely will be back!
My family just had a reunion and several of them stayed at this cabin. They reported back how pleased they were! It was comfortable, clean and a great option. We will keep it in mind for future get togethers. đ
Cute cabin has fun details to admire like a unique front door, obviously hand-made, and a charming sitting porch. From all rooms you can leave ok out onto the back woods area with ferns and trees and old stone wall in the far right. You will love walking across the gravel road to a small dock to enjoy the dock and wildlife. I walked the road all around the lake to explore which was a little belt 3-mile walk.
Both bedrooms are upstairs and the small bathroom is downstairs. Kitchen is great. All in all, this was a super relaxing and quiet place to enjoy.
Rustic, relaxing and redolent of pine and the surrounding woods
In a pine clearing with large granite boulders and staggeringly tall and slender pines standing guard over the property, this cozy little cottage welcomed me back home to New Hampshire after pretty much a 50-year absence. As the slowly cooling autumn evenings yielded to sunrise on these late September mornings, the hauntingly beautiful, low fog suspended over the lake's still water, reminded me why nature and the outdoors were so much a part of my life growing up nearby. An outdoor shower, a screened in porch, a fire pit, Weber grill and a fully equipped kitchen helped us comfortably host visits by family, and served us well for our one-week stay. Beds were comfy and tidy. An abundance of towels and Internet rounded out the amenities. Owner, Ruth, was a diligent, responsive host who answered my many questions. And to paraphrase a well known advertising slogan, "She turned the light in for me..." before we got there. Class act.
Enjoyed our short stay at the house! We kicked out with extra warm days at the end of summer and were able to spend time on the water. Ruth answered any question I had within an hour and I know if I had any problems would've sent someone over to help.
A very beautiful and well-equipped house, especially the possibility that the whole family will sit around to the bonfire in the yard of the house - a very special family experience,
This was a great spot and it met all our needs. Did not use the kayaks because the weather could have been warmer, but it did not stop us from having a great family get together!
We had such a wonderful time staying in your Swanzey Lake cabin this past weekend. The cabin is absolutely adorable and spotless. The rooms are large and it was stocked with anything we needed - which was a nice surprise. Our host was incredibly gracious - we had to email her a few questions and she answered us very quickly. The house is in a great location to enjoy the nature around it, including the lake. Thank you so much for your hospitality. When we roll through NH again, we will definitely try and rent your cabin again! It was simply perfection!
We are a family of 4 who love to spend time in NH. Glenn is a dentist in the metro west area and I help him with the business aspect of his practice. Our daughter Alex just received her Masters in Mental Health Counseling and she and her husband Sam were recently married and live in Bosston. We are an active skiing family and also love the Swanzey area for all it offers in swimming, kayaking, hiking, golf, tennis, shopping and just plain getting away.
