Must Visit

  • 5 de 5

We wanted somewhere we could chill out with good friends we haven't seen in a while. The house was just perfect for this. It is lovely, with all you could need and in a beautiful location - not overlooked at all, surrounded by countryside and quiet without being off the beaten track. It was nice to just be able to amble for occasional walks through the fields and woodland, but equally, just a few minutes to bars, shops and restaurants. We all wanted to move in permanently and it was a real wrench to leave. Very spacious with huge rooms and really well equipped. Hairdryers provided for us to use was a bonus, fans to keep us cool at night, flyscreens to keep the bugs outdoors and having two fridges - one a large American-style one - meant we could shop in bulk with plenty of room to chill enough white wine for eight of us to last the week! We did some excursions into surrounding parts, most notably Lake Bolsena, which is just on the doorstep and the hot springs at Saturnia and we ventured by train from Orvieto to Florence. We loved it and going by train was easy yet an adventure in its own right. We swan in the huge pool, held table football and table tennis tournaments and we even used the original outdoor bread oven- not for baking bread, but for slow roasting meat, which was utterly delicious and eaten one evening on the big table on the terrace as the sun went down. Unforgettable!

Réponse du propriétaire: This review pretty much sums up Laguscello - almost makes us want to go ourselves! But then we know how lovely it is. The hot springs at Saturnia are definitely a must - some previous guests went in October 08 in hot sun - there is an area you can go to which is free (directions in the Rough Guide in Laguscello's 'library') - came back smelling of sulphur apparently! Florence is wonderful too - and there are other places nearby in Tuscany we'd recommend for days out. The last guests had a wonderful day on a beach in Tuscany (west coast - gorgeous sunsets) - they emailed to tell us all about it. How nice is that!

Tuscan dream, idyllic!

  • 5 de 5

This wonderful Italian farm house set on the Tuscan/Umbrian hills is all one would imagine for the idyllic family holiday.

Beautifully restored with a touch of opulence. The extremely well equipped rustic Tuscan kitchen is supplemented along the pathway with a complete pizza room and delightful outdoor dinning area under vine clad pergola.

With the summer breeze wafting through the lavender and rose bushes it is heaven just idling by the pool though if feeling more energetic the surrounding area abounds with medieval towns set high on hills to discover and beautiful lakes to swim in in the valleys.

Great family holiday place with added attraction of games room, all guests need anticipated and good cheap restaurants close at hand. As you can see we really enjoyed our holiday here and cannot wait to return. Thank you.

Réponse du propriétaire: So pleased you enjoyed your stay at Laguscello and appreciated all its features, including the original walk-in pizza oven - which is always a favourite - and the garden, which we have added to this year with even more colourful flowers to enjoy.

Beautifully restored gem

  • 5 de 5

We had a wonderful stay at Laguscello with our extended family of 4 adults and 2 small children. The property has been beautifully restored, the finishes and furniture are of a high standard. It is located amongst beautiful fields and is set back well from the road. It is blissfully quiet.

When you are trying to locate the property make sure you read the instructions that are sent to you and follow them. If we had done this instead of trusting the GPS to get us directly there we would have saved ourselves a few u-turns!

The property is spacious and the rooms are huge. Jane and Peter have thought of everything a family could need, even down to stairgates at both the top and bottom.

We had a great time, unfortunately we didn't get to use the pool enough as it was just getting into the warmer season. We did brave it a couple of times even so.

We spent a good 4 days trying to source some firewood, eventually after a tip from our friends at the Ritrovo del Cacciatore (great restaurant on the main road on the way to Orvieto, just before you get to the bendy turns) we found a timber yard selling firewood in an industrial estate just before you get into Montefiascone.

A few musts:

- Orvieto, a day at least but you could spend a couple here.

- Civita di Bagnoregio, gorgeous little town that looks like it's going to fall into the valley around. Loads of restaurants there to choose for a relaxing lunch before heading back down and up the other side. The walk over and up the bridge looks worse than it is. If you have small kids I would recomend taking a backpack over a pram though.

- Lake Bolsena, if you're drving and head from the town of Bolsena down to the lake turning left and follow it along you'll get to a good playground for the kids and then a minute further on there's a good beach to play on. Opposite a small hotel called Hotel le Naiadi sul Lagomore.

Overall a fantastic stay and would recommend to anyone considering a visit. There is so much to do in the area and so many towns and restaurants that you won't need to travel too far. A visit from the friendly neighbouring dog Basil was a highlight for the boys. A car is a must for this property.

Réponse du propriétaire: It is very easy to spend a week just chilling out in the area around Laguscello as these guests did - without having to worry about driving too far afield. There's plenty to do in close proximitiy - but equally, Laguscello is well placed to have one or two day trips to places like Rome, Florence and Siena. Lake Bolsena is just 10 minutes away and is so big, it is like an inland seaside - with beaches, lovely views and glorious sunsets. On summer evenings, the lakeside often plays host to outdoor discos, which are great for families with young teenagers.

Lovely Laguscello

  • 5 de 5

We had an idyllic week. Laguscello is a gorgeous house, so pleasingly thought out, with wonderful proportions and use of light. The bedrooms are highly covetable, and we spent many happy hours outdoors, swimming, eating and sleeping (sun and peaceful surroundings send me off!)

Highlights included the pizza oven and trying out Guy's recipe during a calorie-filled evening - we even achieved a good calzone! Civita was another memorable surprise. It's a real delight - all the better because we were the first family to visit that day and had the place to ourselves.

The weather, the house and the company were wonderful. It was a fantastic base for a holiday we’ll remember for years. Many thanks.

Wow.

  • 5 de 5

The title says it all. The property is newly restored, and to a very high standard. The construction and fit-out has lots of local, character-filled features (like HUGE exposed roof beams) combined with some very well constructed and installed modern technology (Smeg kitchen appliances, double glazed windows with integral shutters and fly screens). Although it wasn't blazing hot during our visit, I guess the very thick stone walls (3 feet in places) will keep things cool in summer. The place is very well equipped, and we didn't once wish for some kitchen gadget from home.

Bedrooms (4, all en-suite) are simply vast, with decent, new furniture, and the bathrooms are all fitted to a very high standard.

We only ate out a few times (too easy to just drop anchor in this place) in Orvieto and Todi where there are big choices and good food, and we took the train to Rome in order to tick off the Colosseum and Vatican. The train is very easy from Orvieto, and if you pay an additional 12%, you get to go first class. Florence is apparently also easy to reach this way. We made the mistake of driving to Siena on a holiday weekend. Do not try this yourself.

We also walked about a bit each day. There are beautiful woodland tracks all over the place, and the few locals we did meet ( including a black labrador called Basil) were all very friendly.

The location is everything it says in the description; far enough away from roads and other houses to give genuine peace and quiet, but close enough to make shopping a short drive, and Orvieto is only about 15 minutes away. There are great views in many directions.

I would not recommend this property to anyone wanting urban nightlife on their doorstep, nor to those who can't sleep unless lulled by thundering traffic. Otherwise, I don't see how you can possibly go wrong.
