This house is very comfortable and cozy. The bedrooms are small--one with bunk beds and the other two singles pushed together--but fine for my husband and I and our six year old grandson. We slept very well. We loved the views from the big living room windows and the hot tub. The heating worked very well so even though it was quite cold outside, we were warm indoors. Be aware that this house is fairly isolated (some nearby houses but not stores, restaurants, etc.) but that is what we were seeking to improve our chances of seeing the Northern Lights. And we did see them twice. We bought food at a big Bonus supermarket in Reykjavik and ate at the cottage. The house is well equipped for cooking despite the small sizes of the appliances. The owner was very helpful, providing very specific instructions about the house and directions. She has also installed very helpful signs at key turns. The location was great for us because it was an easy drive to both the amazing Gullfoss waterfall and the Geysir area.
Lovely cabin that felt very private. Has everything you need and a few luxuries besides. Only complaint would be the beds in the main bedroom are *very* thin and uncomfortable.
The host was accurate and expeditious in every communication whether weeks before or during our stay. This was of critical importance in light of the Icelandic/USA requirements regarding covid testing. Weeks in advance the host corresponded with us to help us wind our way through Icelandic hospital websites. That took the stress off. We were able to set our hiking and touring itinerary even though test sites in the back country are advertised in Icelandic, few, far between and of limited hours.
Although the cottage is in the middle of nowhere, it was central--within a bit over one hour's drive of High Country glaciers, black sand beaches, the Golden Circle, and several spectacular waterfall hikes.
We had such a wonderful time there. It was my girls favorite place for the whole trip. Great location, there were horses to visit down the street, we played tag in the yard and we had excellent day trips from the cabin. We didn't get the TV to work but that was okay since we were trying to disconnect. Also I don't think the wifi code worked either but we had our own. I love everything about this cabin and the host was really responsive.
Our stay at the Hekla Holiday Home was great! It's very much off the beaten path and it's nice to have a very quiet place. We were able to see the Northern Lights both nights of our stay, which was an unexpected surprise. The hot tub is great even on a cold day and the cabin itself is cozy. We had a little trouble with the front door (our own fault!) and Carolin was helpful in getting it sorted out.
