This year for medical reasons the contingent of the family that usually uses it can't use it so we are offering it up last minute for the lucky folks who waited, and now get the PERFECT lake life cabin. Long term stays!? Yes. Inquire. We are super flexible. This is not our first rodeo... we have a great beach homes in Alabama, but this is our first time renting our family cabin on Ottertail! Wow! Be on Ottertail and ALSO have a boat dock on Ottertail River (the "channel'). Cute, cozy, 3 bedroom RIGHT on Ottertail Lake. AMAZING view and direct access to Ottertail Lake! Full kitchen, living room, nice sunroom, and THAT deck. Wow. It may be the BEST lake deck on the best lake in Minnesota (IMHO!). :-)

The is a quintessential cabin for living the ultimate relaxed lake life. "Lake Cabin" that's this. Cozy. Comfy. And the lake is RIGHT THERE all the time, from most rooms. Ah, now I want to leave my home town and head back myself right now..... AND the lake? Ottertail is a truly wonderful lake for ALL water activities. Swim, boat, ski, jetski, windsurf, fish, chill!

We love Ottertail. Ottertail is a big, yet relatively quiet, lake. It is very boat friendly, with almost all of it being easily navigable. We come every year for 2 weeks around the 4th. Its our favorite time of year! So chill. Just relax by the water, either riverside or RIGHT on the lake.

Our Little Red Ottertail Lake cabin is a 3 bedroom sleeping up to 7, and it has 2 full shared baths (both are showers, sink, toilet, there are no tubs).

Bedroom 3: Queen

If you need the space, you also have 2 sleeper sofas (twin & double) in the awesome sunroom (which doubles as a wonderful place for kiddos to hang separate from adults--that is if they can get the adults out since... more great lake vibes!). AND a QSS in the Living Room.

KITCHEN? Yep.
Efficient kitchen area with ALL amenities: fridge, oven, stovetop, microwave, keurig and drip coffee makers, pots, pans, crockpot, blender.

BIG LAKEFRONT DECK--and lake dock
Our lakefront cabin, has an incredible deck that is somewhat elevator (with easy steps down), making it an ever better view AND more breezy too! And off the deck? Lakeside single wide rollin dock for hanging out or temporarily tying up.

BEACH and FIRE RING
Yes, you can get to the water either off the roll-in (in the water all season) dock OR directly from the sand/rock beach. Nice. AND a fire ring on the beach for those evenings you want your smores.

RIVERSIDE FISHING PLATFORM AND DOCK/MANUAL LIFT
More? Yep. Our property extends from the lake to the river, and on the river... fishing platform and boat dock with manual lift! Got BOAT? Dump her in the water, and keep her on property, sheltered in the channel. So nice! The lift is setup for a fishing type boat, up to about 18' or so, and you can alternatively snug up a pontoon on the west side of the dock.

PLEASE let us know AHEAD OF ARRIVAL, directly communicating once booked, and ensure we have replied, that you will have a boat. You can't take a trailer to the cabin (trust me, not a fun thing), BUT we have easy options nearby, just coordinate! We send messages about this too, automagically, so be sure once booked you are receiving our direct communications.

Oh, and kiddos love to walk to the bridge at the bend in Ottertail River and tub back to the lake house (the current will take them to the front side of the cabin, in the lake, or pop off by the riverside dock platform. Repeat to exhaustion. The true brave at heart depart the bridge by jumping off! Fishing off the bridge is common too.

THINGS WE LOVE
So our first love is... chillin' on the lake, but.... things that we miss as soon as we leave include:

Williams Store. Bike ride to coffee (or drive...), smoothies, sandwiches, and more. This place is the best. Its a daily bike ride for my wife, kiddos and me. Plus the owners are super awesome! Say 'hi!' to Dan & Marnie.
Ottertail Fitness Garage. Workout? Ottertail has the Fitness Garage. Full facility, including cardio and free weights. Highly recommend!
Zorbaz. Pizza place RIGHT on Ottertail. Take a boat ride over, tie up there, or drive... or for the more adventuresome, its a doable, if longish, bike ride too!

And there is a lot of nearby golf, a smattering of stores and restaurants in Ottertail that are well worth a stop, and field trips to Perham and other areas are worth a half day or more. Just inquire. We know the area, love the area, happy to help you love it too!

Cozy cabin RIGHT on the water. Great view, easy access to everything and perfect if you are looking for a lake getaway. The cabin was enough space and had everything we needed. There is a Dollar General and Carr's (inside Arco gas station) for any necessities and groceries. Lots of nearby places to visit, eat, shop etc. If you're looking for a quiet relaxing lake vacation, this is perfect.

Fantastic cabin -- the views were incredible!

Rick's Little Red Cabin was perfect! The views of Lake Ottertail from the deck were wonderful, and we liked lounging by the river too. The AC kept up even on the incredibly hot days. Beds were comfy, internet worked, it was clean, and the communication really helped us know what to expect. What more could you ask!? We will definitely be back!

Great lake trip!!!

We had a wonderful time at the lake. The cabin worked very well for us. We truly enjoyed our stay. The lake was great, and the kids loved running off the lakeside swimming pier--and we could watch all the action from the deck! The recommendations for things to do were spot on--definitely try out Williams Store! We had snacks and coffee there almost every day!

Experience of a lifetime!

Everything was perfect, we dont have any suggestions. We went out on our Paddleboard and had an Experience of a lifetime. We saw 8 Bald eagles and one got within 6 feet over our head, As a Native American this was surreal. Thank you so much.

The LIttle Red Cabin on Ottertail was a true gem!

WE had a wonderful experience from start to finish. Rick communicated with us in advance of our stay. The directions and recommendations were clear and spot on! When I had questions he responded in a timely manner. The cabin was clean and quaint. The kitchen was well stocked with everything I needed for preparing meals and saving leftovers. The river was fun to fish. The kids even caught and released a painted turtle. The deck furniture was comfortable and plentiful. His recommendation on where we could rent a pontoon was great! Another great rental experience. We already booked for next year! This is a gem!!!!

Gorgeous location right on the lake. Very comfortable cabin - a nice lived-in feel. The property is a little tired torn screens, inconsistent plumbing (mostly a water pressure problem in the bathrooms but a couple of fixtures that didn't really work).

Thanks so much for your review, Tom! 😎 Super glad you had a fantastic time enjoying the gorgeous lakefront location and that our family cabin’s cozy, comfortable, lived-in vibe was just right for your stay! Sorry you had any issues with the plumbing (and a screen?)! You mentioned on arrival that some of the water wasn’t getting hot, and we found one of the heaters (there are two) was misbehaving. A local plumbing company came out the next morning, replaced an element, and confirmed everything was working perfectly. We also reached out to check in, but didn’t hear back — we hope you were still enjoying all the fun on the water and around Ottertail! That said, we didn’t see any other issues, especially with fixtures, so if there was something else, please reach out so we can address it for the next guest or your return trip! ;-) Ditto on the screens — we didn’t have any communication from you about them (and it wasn’t on our radar from past guests), but we sent someone to check just in case! And of course, on any future visits, let us know right away, like you did with the heater, so we can fix it johnny-on-the-spot! Loved our stay!

Loved our stay! Felt right at home. We've been coming to Ottertail lake every summer as a family get together and this was one of my favorite summers in a long time due to the little red cabin. The kids played in the lake everyday, or fished off the river dock, my dad caught the biggest fish of his life, and we all hung out on the beautiful deck from sunrise to sunset. What a beautiful spot for long lasting memories. Every question I had was promptly answered.

Cabin stay

The cabin is cozy and everything you would need is there for cooking etc including a blender. They have books, puzzles, couple of kayaks and life jackets in the deck box to use for safety. My only issue was the water was to low to use the boat ramp at the time I stayed. Great view on the deck, plenty of comfortable chairs and nice fire pit on the beach.

Wonderful stay in Ottertail MN

The pictures do not give The Little Red Cabin justice. It is very cozy and plenty of room for all of us. The VIEW and LOCATION is perfect. Being located between the lake and the river is amazing. We enjoyed sitting on the deck relaxing and enjoying the view of Ottertail Lake. Plenty of restaurants and shopping located close by. The cabin is clean and stocked very well from kitchen utensils to games and puzzles. Rick and Terry are very accommodating and friendly. We highly recommend The Little Red Cabin.

A wonderful respite!

Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your family's cabin for much of July. We had to be in the area for a family medical issue, and the cabin was the perfect place to be able to be relatively close, but get away for some rest and reset from it all. It meant so much to us. Thank you for everything! And... your father in law was extremely nice and helpful too!

Wonderful week

We especially enjoyed the beautiful deck overlooking the lake! Because we brought our small boat with us, we chose this property as it has docks on both the lake and the river. The communication and service was the best we have ever had with a VRBO rental. Check in and check out was simple. The inside of cabin was immaculate. Plenty of room for a large family with a lovely indoor porch area separate which would be great if you had kids or teens along. We used that space as a reading room and opened the windows to enjoy lake breezes. I will rent this property again!

My wife and I picked this place as it had a boat lift advertised on the riverside. I got my boat stuck coming into the channel cause the water was so shallow. Finally got it out. The boat lift was so shallow there is no way any boat is going on there. Also, it would have been nice to know that there is no turn around area at the cabin. First day I pulled my boat up through a very narrow driveway. Very difficult to get the boat and trailer in and out of that property.

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts, and I’m thrilled to hear you loved our cabin and had a fantastic time enjoying the lakefront location! 😎 I was surprised by some of your comments, so I gave you a call — and it was great to hear directly that the home itself was absolutely perfect for your stay. Just to clarify a few things for anyone reading: our listing and pre-arrival materials explicitly note the narrow road and lack of a turnaround, and we provide a nearby spot for boats and trailers to avoid exactly the type of challenge you experienced. We also always check in with guests who indicate they’re bringing a boat. When you messaged through VRBO right before check-in that you couldn’t locate the check-in info, we immediately re-sent entry info through VRBO, noted that our direct messages (which always come via email) sometimes land in spam/junk, and asked you to confirm finding them since they contain lots of great info, recommendations, and more — but unfortunately, we never got a reply. The info in those alone would have made the trailer and dock setup smoother and less stressful. I would have been happy to answer any questions too and provide suggestions but didn’t see any communication about any of this during the stay.  Regarding the river channel, yes, the entrance is naturally shallow, but fully navigable with a little care — as countless guests (and our family) have enjoyed all summer. Knowing the line to take and easing in slowly makes all the difference. We’re always happy to share tips to make boating effortless for first-timers or return visitors alike. It’s wonderful to hear that you enjoyed the cabin itself — cozy, clean, and perfectly situated for deck views, kayaking, and relaxing by the water. 🚤🏡 We’d be delighted to welcome you back anytime! Perfect! Great trip to Little Red Cabin in Ottertail!

The little red cabin was perfect, very clean, cozy, amazing views, and Very well stocked. Owners were very responsive and helpful. It was a great weekend. [😁 Wonderful! Perfect fall getaway to Ottertail lake

Rick's little red cabin was PERFECT for us. It was clean and very comfortable. We loved our family get away time. And the view of the lake from the deck (as well as the river from the other side) were amazing for relaxing with a beverage. ;-) Communication was amazing too! All in all we highly recommend, and can't wait to come back for more "lake time." Thanks for having us! [🥰 Yay! Thanks Chris! So happy you and the crew had a wonderful time in our family's cabin! Great time on Ottertail Lake

We had a wonderful family trip to Rick and Susan's cabin on Ottertail Lake. It was a little cool during our stay, but they can't control that! And the view from the deck (and from the living room/dining area) was fantastic. They were also very helpful with suggestions for places to go around the area too. The cabin is, well, a cabin, and is small, but it was a great fit for the 7 of us. It was very clean and comfy. Highly recommend the place, and that you also go to the Williams Store, one of their suggestions that we really enjoyed, almost daily! Thank you so much for sharing your family's cabin with us. We hope to come back in the future.[Yay! Thanks Lindsey. Glad you all had a great time in our place. We have enjoyed it for many many years and are happy to be able to share it with others this year. My wife's family is from ND and MN. They have been going to Ottertail for 50 years! She and I have been going for 25+ every summer. We LOVE our Ottertail time! It is the trip all the kiddos (now in college... well, two just graduated... egad how did that sneak up on me!) and my wife (Susan) and I look forward to the most every year. Ottertail is our happy place, and we get to be with some of the extended family for some of it too and everyone comes to Ottertail!

And we think you will LOVE our Little Red Cabin on Ottertail as much as we do! We hate to give it up, but since we only use it a week or so ourselves, and the family member who used it long term no longer can... :-( ... we are opening it up to others!
