We loved staying at the Funky Flip Flop! It had great beach access, lots of water toys and the owner was available to answer questions as needed. The beach was almost empty, and we really enjoyed the peace and quiet!
The beach access was great, short walk on a boardwalk path. Beach was private and natural and not many people which our family wants! People we did meet were very friendly. Broadkill beach store was convenient. Drive to restaurants and shopping in Milton and Lewes was easy. Would stay in the area again for sure. House was not as clean as we are use to and had a strong creosote smell upon arrival but we managed to mitigate it a good bit by opening up the storage area door where the AC unit was.located inside the garage. The owner had kayaks and beach carts for our use which my adult children enjoyed.
Check in and out was very easy. Loved the easy walk to the beach and the access to the kayaks. Kitchen had all the needed items - toaster, coffee maker, pots and pans, serving spoons, pot holders, etc. Great suggestion to bike at the state park. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because of the very hard queen bed mattress. We couldn't use it. All the other beds/mattresses were fine. Otherwise it would be a place I would go to again.
Coldwell Banker Premier performed wonderfully and communicated all details regarding our reservation in an accommodating way. We will be using them for future reservations. The property itself has great potential. We have stayed in better and we have stayed in worse. The property was clean upon arrival and the AC was cranking so much so that I was ordered to adjust the temp because someone couldn't feel her fingers after a hour. The bedrooms and welcomed multiple bathrooms served us well. The WiFi handled the needs of three adults and two teenagers without any problems. The kitchen was well stocked with useful utensils, dinnerware and the dishwasher functioned as well. Let's talk about the water filtration tower attached crudely to the kitchen sink spigot. You need to switch it on to work by utilizing a a toggle switch attached to the spigot. Doing so starts a back flow to the filter that loudly sounds like some threat is knocking at the front door. This in turn alerted our fury four legged menace that someone may be there which started frantic episodes of barking when filling the coffee pot @ 6 a.m. or a pot for noodles at dinner. The Hinsense refrigerator has seen better days, all the shelfs on the door were cracked and we feared they could not bear much weight so we had to tread lightly. The freezer side worked but the ice maker and water dispenser did not. I did not discover a water line running to the fridge, so that may explain it. Upon arrival we were greeted by over filled outdoor trash containers lids up (because they were overfilled) and covered with flies of course. Waste management was problematic for our first 4 days. The propane on the gas grill was empty, so a run to Ace hardware fixed that. Potential is here though if they get rid of the 1980's carpet and go with vinyl or laminate with throw rugs the place would greatly brighten up and bring it into this century. You can't get a carpet that old clean anymore. Replace the fridge with a medium priced side by side with an ice maker / water filtration system and scrap the bark generating antique filter attached to the kitchen sink. I don't know what the water bill is here but some of the toilets run periodically, that's because the ball stops in the toilet need to be replaced, slow leaks cause them to run, a cheap fix, not annoying but noticeable to me. With all the above being said I still would consider staying again only because the teenagers love the good fishing and tranquil environment Broadkill Beach offers. Take plenty of spray though the stuff without DEET will not work, we battled the stinging flys for 3 of our 6 days on the beach. Good luck hopefully someone cares enough to make some minor changes, it wouldn't take much ($), to make it a 4 or 5 star place.
