Fantastic stay at this unique property! We love the wood-fired sauna and hot tub on the cold winter weekend. The living space is so cozy for quiet reading time or board games! Would love to return again!
My friends and I had the chance to start 2025 in this beautiful cabin. The cabin itself is cozy and full of character, and the surrounding nature makes for a wonderful stay. The hosts were extremely responsive and prompt with their replies.
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving here with our daughter, who lives in Portland. The house is very comfortable and features an outdoor hot tub and a wood-stove-heated sauna. Its unique design includes large, beautiful windows, and is situated on a lovely, wooded property.
The property was beautiful. Josh and Gayle were super responsive to our needs. Even through the storm and losing power, they answered the phone right away and credited us for the night we missed. We loved getting away for a few nights for our honeymoon. 100% recommend for a sweet getaway with any crowd!
We thoroughly enjoyed the serenity that this property brings once you pull up the drive way! We lucked out with the weather so we were able to enjoy the yard and big porch! It's a good location less than 10 minutes from kayaking and hiking. Great time -- would definitely recommend!
This home was so cute. We loved the spiral staircase and loft. Plenty of room for card games and a movie. The outside grounds were inviting with a fire pit, several seating areas and the hot tub. We did not use the sauna, maybe next time. The kitchen had everything we needed to make some delicious meals. Overall a lovely place for a quiet weekend getaway.
This property was AMAZING! We had such a wonderful time, from the sauna and the hot tub. We stayed at the house the whole time to ensure social distancing guidelines, and we never ran out of things to do. Josh was responsive and quick to answer and questions. I hope to come back soon! I definitely recommend staying at this property.
My family and I stayed for about a week in April, the house is everything pictured and more. Lots of space to spread out and relax, both inside and out. The hot tub worked great even in the colder weather, and the heating system in the house kept us all nice and warm. Josh was very responsive to questions the entire trip. A great experience!
Had a wonderful stay in mid-September with my wife. Property was just as advertised. In a neighborhood but you would never know it. Feels like you are in the middle of the woods. Very much enjoyed the second floor and bathroom with the large window. Hot tub was a hightlight of our stayed used it twice a day! Played golf three times during our visit. Thanks for making our stay in Maine so enjoyable.
The house was centrally located between different beaches on Sebago Lake, but I thought we would have access to Sebago Lake right at the house.
The inside of the house was very clean, but the outside wasn't.
We had to wash down the deck, chairs, table & clean away leaves in the pathways of the grounds.
It was a beautiful, peaceful and relaxing home and we would go back again.
Thank you
My parents, 1-yr-old son, and I visited Maine for the first time in hopes of exploring a new state and combining some R & R with some adventures/exploring. We used the cabin as a home base and it provided wonderfully for our needs. We rented a car and did a long trip to Acadia one day and other trips to Boothbay. Otherwise, we remained local and went to Sebago Lake State Park a couple of times, Raymond beach + did a sunset kayak tour. Grocery and other stores are just down the road. Although the property and amenities might give the impression that itâs incredibly remote, it is quiet in a wooded area (despite being a mile or so from a main road) yet close enough to shopping and major intersections. Would definitely stay again!
The home is very nice. It had everything we needed to be comfortable. While at the property, the weather was terrible, which was not the property owners fault.
We were told too late to bring a fire stick for television use. That television should have been in good working order. Access to a local beach was not available to us. Due to daily rain, the hot tub was not used but was available. We did enjoy our stay and visited friends who lived locally.
We recommend this property to others, but bring your a fire stick.
The location is wonderful. Itâs near various beach options. There are supermarkets, a movie theater, and Starbucks too. Yet when you are st the house, youâd never know. Itâs very peaceful. The hosts were very helpful and responsive the entire stay. My family was excited to use the sauna and hot tub but given the heat, we only used the hot tub. It was wonderful since I was there for a race. We loved the artist feel and the open flow of the house and landscape. There was a keurig and regular coffee maker that we used while we were there. The.kitchen was was nice and easy to use. Everything was clean and well organized too. All very relaxing. One thing would be that the mattresses and pillows could use some updating but in the end, the entire family is begging to come back and stay here again. This was my first Vrbo rental and I recommend it to anyone looking to stay in the area.
This was a great house for relaxing! It very clean with plenty of towels, pillows, etc. It said A/c but they were only in the upper loft and 1st floor bedroom. That was a little tough since it was so hot the week we were there. I donât recommend staying if you have children under 5-6. The loft bedroom and spiral staircase made me super nervous with a small child. Older kids or adult should have no issue. The hot tub was wonderful and unfortunately we didnât get to utilize the sauna. It was very peaceful set back in the woods. We were 5-10 mins from Sabego lake with great places to swim, rent boats or hike. Grocery store, ice cream and things for kids are also close by. Josh responded very quickly to any questions we had and was very helpful! We would absolutely come back on the cooler months to enjoy the property more! Thank you for a great stay!
Beautiful cabin in a quiet, wooded neighborhood, with lots of options for outdoor activities.
Lots of different areas in the house to âhang aboutâ , but this is not a house for people with mobility issues- the spiral staircase is striking, but not easy to descend, and the third floor bedroom is accessible only by mountaineering! (The second floor bathroom is exquisite, though!)
The cabin is a âhappeningâ; itâs own entertainment, and we really enjoyed our short visit there.
We were 4 able adults staying at the cabin. Lower bedroom (adjacent to the gorgeous kitchen) was small, but had a super comfortable bed.
Middle floor had a pull out sofa bed, not as comfy but fine for a night or two, and the top floor bed was just a hoot to get up to!
If the cabin was mine, I would have made the middle floor the master bedroom with a comfortable bed, to take more advantage of the privacy it allowed, and the amazing bathroom and view.
Owners were great in responding to questions and offering ideas for where to go out to eat.
We did enjoy our stay!
The property was portrayed as an excellent near-luxury house on a beautiful plot of land. The land around the house is beautiful, but there were no comfortable chairs and no chaise lounges or even a hammock. Inside was a nice but not fabulous house filled with a polyglot of used furniture and trinkets and an electrical system (switches for lights) that would challenge an electrical engineer. Eating arrangements were cramped. The two bathrooms were small and inconvenient. The crowning touch: the loft bedroom, which was air conditioned by the loudest window unit I have ever heard, was reachable only by a 90-degree step ladder that was scary to use. I believe that to warrant the rent being charged, the owners should rewire and renovate, replace the step ladder with an inclined one, and put comfortable furniture outside.
Quirky and unconventional house, great hot tub and sauna, not ADA friendly
We were 2 couples staying here and overall had a good time in this very quirky and unconventional house, especially for the price, but a few things are worth noting for future renters. Pros: in a neighborhood but feels very remote/private; very clean upon arrival; great hot tub and sauna; cozy upstairs tv and sitting area, big windows with lots of natural light; 30-40 mins from Portland. Cons: downstairs bedroom was boiling hot even with the heat turned almost all the way down, and the en-suite bathroom is very small and the stall shower flooded the day we left; the loft bedroom has an extremely treacherous climb to reach (including to get to the bathroom which is one floor below) and is quite cold though has a space heater. If anyone has physical limitations, a fear of heights, or needs the bathroom a lot, the loft bedroom wonât work. The host sent detailed instructions and information though unfortunately only the day-of, and this included telling us the stove top wasnât working which was not ideal when preparing meals and groceries for a 3 night trip. The Wi-Fi and tv worked well (there is cable) though you need a Roku or fire stick to get streaming.
Unfortunately I was very disappointed in my vacation at this property. We arrived an were immediately stifled by the heat . Not one window was opened and only two windows actually had screens in the windows and ac units were only in bedrooms. The cleaning people barely touched the place...dog hair was everywhere and my daughter immediately started sneezing and ended up having to leave... The oven did not work and had not been cleaned in months. We had to go out to dinner most nights and ended up having to bring home food we brought . The track lights above the island where you eat were so dusty, and the black canvas seats on the director chairs were covered in pet dander and old food. We contacted the owner who sounded sincere and did try to help by sending us a gift certificate for dinner but we had hoped for some type of refund since our vacation was ruined by uncleanliness and my daughters could not stay with us. If he is paying cleaning people to clean then he is getting ripped off. I would not recommend this property to anyone who likes a clean house. I still get the heeby Jeebies thinking about it. The only bright light was the hot tub but it was 100 degrees outside so that was not enjoyable at this time of the year.
My wife and I were looking for something unique for a weekend retreat for just the 2 of us. This place was perfect. We loved the upstairs lift where we could sit and read while looking out at the forest. The arch windows all over the place let us enjoy the woods even while we were inside. We got to enjoy the hot tub while it was raining and even a little thunder storm. And the bbq was perfect. Definitely worth the trip and would highly recommend if you were looking to have a private experience in the woods with tons of amenities.
Josh and Gayle's place is nice and as described. I choose their place because I was looking for a relaxing, quiet retreat that included a hot tub. I had an issue with the hot tub randomly shutting off on the first day of my stay, but Josh was responsive and got the issue resolved in a couple days due to it being the weekend. There were a couple more inconveniences I experienced during my stay: the stove top was broken with no backup cooking surface provided and there was not a clear, shoveled path from the deck to the hot tub upon arrival (I dug one out). There is a functional oven and microwave, but a temporary hot plate or additional free standing burner would be ideal until the stove top is replaced.
Overall, the house and property provided a relaxing environment and is conveniently located, you'll even get to see a herd of deer wandering through the property at dusk.
We traveled 6 hours to view property and returned three times thereafter to marvel at it before we purchased it from the original owner, a local artist who built the house and viewed it as a work of art. We hope to continue his vision and share his passion for the intertwining of both a unique architectural structure and nature.
This quiet, relaxing home is perfect for families, couples or friends seeking to find a peaceful getaway in a secluded, picturesque setting. The home is great for unwinding after an active day of Maine Life, recharging your personal batteries, reading or writing your next novel, painting or just dreaming. It is close to all seasonal amenities be it hiking the trails, cycling, all water sports and fishing on Lake Sebago, Winter sports include snowmobiling, cross country and down hill skiing. Property is just 5 minutes from Sebago Lake State Park.
