The strawberry house! 🍓 A 2 bedroom house all to yourselves!
The strawberry house is a recently updated 2 story house in Massillon, Ohio with a large yard and outdoor fire pit. Inspected and certified by the City of Massillon. We call it the strawberry house for two reasons: 1. It has strawberry red siding 2. there are lots of strawberry plants, so if you visit during strawberry season (end of May to mid June) you may be able to pick some fresh, homegrown strawberries during your stay!
Location located in a quiet residential neighborhood. 1.3 miles to downtown Massillon including locally owned restaurants (Smitty’s steakhouse, Kozmo’s, Margarita’s), bars (Benders, hideaway lounge, the sangria stand) local coffee shops (Tremont Coffee Co and R&R Coffee bar) and bakery (liebermann’s and beyond) and things to do (Krackpot’s comedy club, Massillon museum, walking/bike trail, reservoir park)
The space The upstairs has 2 bedrooms and 1 full bathroom (bathtub). The main level has the other full bathroom (shower), living room, dining room and kitchen. And there is a washer, dryer and clothes line in the basement for laundry.
Parking There is a gravel driveway behind the house to park up to 4 vehicles and free street parking.
Extra Guest Fee Per City of Massillon regulation our maximum occupancy is 6. There is a $10 per night per guest charge for guests 5 and 6 for extra cleaning/utilities/wear and tear. We do this to keep the price lower for those with fewer guests rather than increase the price for everyone.
Four of us stayed one night at the Strawberry House. It was comfortable and well stocked. We didn’t need to cook but it would have been easy to make meals. Great shower!
Our stay was wonderful, the property manager even gave us a little gift for our anniversary. The location of the house is great, 30 minutes or less from alost anything you would want to do with a peaceful neighborhood you can enjoy.
We enjoyed staying at this house. It was very convenient to my relatives who live in the area as well as stores and restaurants. It was clean and more updated than expected. We also appreciated the fact that everything was provided, including those things you typically forget when you leave home. Would definitely stay again if available next time.
The WiFi was slow, the television and streaming setup was incomprehensible, there was no AC in one bedroom, and the parking area was a challenge. But the house was roomy and clean.
Im sorry to hear you feel your stay was only 6/10. We try our best to create a home away from home.
I understand this doesn’t change your rating, but I would like to address your concerns and
clarify them for future guests
In regard to the WiFi and smart TVs
We didn’t know you were having issues with it so we didn’t know to help. As listed in the guidebook, we have the smart TVs logged into Hulu and Freevee to give free and easy viewing options. Guests are welcome to use other options they have accounts for/access to.
In regard to the AC
As we discussed in your inquiry prior to you choosing to book and as is in the listing: The whole house has central AC meaning every room is cooled with that central AC. The thermostat for that is in the living room for the guest to adjust. The main bedroom also has a window AC unit in addition to the central AC for added comfort, which we also recommended that you leave both bedroom doors open if you wanted the window unit to cool both bedrooms.
In regard to the parking
I don’t understand the challenge so I don’t know what we could change or how to help future guests. We have a half circle driveway that can be pulled through and easily fits 4 vehicles. I also give detailed instructions before the stay.
From start to finish, our stay was just lovely. Trevor was a great host who was in communication whenever we messaged. They’ve gone above and beyond to ensure that you have everything for an enjoyable stay, from plenty of utensils and cooking supplies in the kitchen, to thoughtful toiletries in the bathrooms. We came to visit family in the area and were pleasantly surprised with the neighborhood. We felt safe and everything was easily accessible to both downtown and the highways. The house was a mirror image of my grandmother’s old house, however they’ve made tasteful updates to modernize the house. New windows allowed us to let in the fresh air and the updated bathrooms made getting ready easy. What a treat to have an old claw tub! Having a washer and dryer on site made our life so much easier, as we are on a long road trip and needed to do laundry while we were there. The only thing we would’ve liked and didn’t have was some chairs on the front porch to be able to sit on, but otherwise everything was awesome. The yard was large and although we didn’t see any strawberries, the plants are looking well for next year’s fruit. We will definitely be back when we come to the area to visit family again.
The house is nice, it was clean and well cared for, with some nice modernizing touches. Nice yard for the kids to run around, and the strawberries were much enjoyed. Unfortunately, we were counting on the wi-fi and it did not work--could not connect using the given password. I tried several times to communicate this via my cell phone with the manager, but couldn't successfully enter the six-digit codes that were sent--every time I retrieved the code, a new "contact the manager" screen came up, prompting me to enter the code (etc, etc over and over). Finally I just gave up on the wi-fi. And of course there was the water problem--it did go off at about 8 a.m., rendering the place uninhabitable (or at least functional-bathroom-and- kitchen- less). Of course that lapse was not anyone's fault, and we don't count it against the house. Overall, we liked the house very much. If the wi-fi had worked, it would have been near 100%. Thank you!
Hi James, I apologize for the inconveniences you had during your stay.
I’m not sure what you mean about contacting the manager and it requiring a code, so I’m not sure what changes to make for future guests. It may have been an issue with VRBO, as you should have been able to send a message on VRBO as we had communicated leading up to your stay. I also provide my phone number in the booking details on VRBO that become available once the stay is booked. Unfortunately without receiving a message during the stay, we were unaware of the problem with the wifi and unable to solve it during your stay.
Also, thank you for the understanding with the water on the morning of your check-out. We were notified the day before your stay by the water company that they would be shutting off the water for a few hours to the whole street for repairs. We made sure to notify you as soon as we were notified but unfortunately it was out of our control.
Again, I apologize for the inconveniences but glad to hear you enjoyed the stay otherwise.
Trevor
