For young and able bodied only
Loved remote & wooded setting. House is perfect for able bodied folks or a couple with kids old enough to be safe using a ladder or incredibly steep stairs and comfortable sharing the 1 bathroom on upper level while bedroom is on lower level. Not suitable for two adult couples.
Listing showed multiple bedROOMS & bathrooms but that info is for both houses combined. The listing was not specific.
The beautiful little “hobbit” house has 1 bathroom and 1 bedroom. Other beds are thin spring mattresses on the floor in an alcove that an adult has to crawl in/out of or a loft with a ladder an adult could not stand in. Kids would love it.
It could be ideal for gatherings but you’d need both places on this property.
Fire pit area could accommodate a large gathering and is a beautiful spot, day or night.
Linda was quick to provide extra blankets as the weather changed & answered all questions about local sites.
I would return as I appreciate her effort to reduce our impact on the planet with the mindful construction of the little house. My companions with knee, hip, back or digestive issues would not, could not.

Yes, it’s no secret that it is Eco Cabin only during pandemic. Mentioned several times in listing description and 3 times in private messages before I accepted the booking to make sure guest understood Eco Only. Thanks for your nice comments and your return in future when all areas hopefully will be available.

Relaxing Getaway in the Smokey Mountain Region
First Linda was great! She stayed on property so if we needed anything she was able to get it or direct us where to go!
We brought Taylor our 11 year old Golden Retriever with us and he was the first to try out Linda's "Pet Bunk House" and he did really well in it. He has a bit of anxiety when we travel so this bunk house provided him a nice place to settle down. Originally, Linda planned the bunk house for a smaller animals (under 50 pounds). Taylor, who is 100 pounds had enough room to move around plus she provided him a nice cushion under the 4 foot raised queen size bed. The first two nights my husband and I stayed out in the bunk house just to keep an eye on Taylor. The third night, Keith stayed out in the bunk house and I stayed inside the house with our teenage girls and our adult son.
Linda built the stone cabin with being "eco friendly" concept. It's has a small footprint on each level with a European flair to each level. When you walk in you are in the master bedroom and is very cool with the rocks for the floor and walls. It has a wooden stove and fireplace with the TV and DVD player. The stairs are near the front door which leads to the main floor. The steps are good not narrow at all and evenly spaced. The outside is very rustic with the stones and the 2nd floor inside is very warm with wood walls and ceilings. There are ceiling fans in the master bedroom and in the kitchen. The bathroom is the toilet and bath tube/shower. The sink is outside of the bathroom which worked well for us at morning and night. We stayed at the cabin the second week in July and we did not have to use the AC at all. We kept the windows open and it was perfect. The kitchen is well stocked but could use some bakeware. The stove and oven were a bit tricky to use because I have a gas stove at home.
We played games at night and went hiking during the day. Linda was very helpful with finding trails Taylor could come on with us since the Smokey Mountains NP does not allow dogs even on leash.
Overall our stay was very relaxing. The cabin is located between Bryson City and Franklin both are easy to get to through the mountains roads. Linda has awesome neighbors (Chris and his wife) gave us fresh eggs one night while we were walking our dog for his night time walk. We bought honey from another neighbor of hers and it is fabulous. Linda's property is so calming with the sound of the creek. Taylor loved to lay in it after a walk. I loved soaking my feet in

Thank you for your detailed feedback. What a breath of fresh air! Thank you for the mention of the baking dishes, which I failed to notice were moved to the bonus kitchen by previous guests instead of an abundance in the Eco's oven drawer. Moving forward, I will leave a note in the Eco kitchen to address potential questions. I also leave my windows open to enjoy the fresh breezes and the sounds of the creek. Again thank you for making plans to return and for taking the time to write such a long and wonderful review. So happy that your family & Taylor had a great time!

Beautiful outdoor space, Cluttered/tight living quarters
I'd like to start by saying that Linda was super nice. The gardens and neighborhood were absolutely gorgeous. And if you are renting just one room/portion of the house, this may work great for you.
We rented the whole property for a family reunion and, for us, there was not enough common space to hang out. In fact, there is no indoor common space at all, so we spent the whole weekend outside. That would have been wonderful if it weren't for the biting no-see-ems which left welts all over our legs and feet.
The house feels cluttered, with tons of video tapes, books, and blankets in cabinets everywhere. The kitchens are pretty small for so many people and there is no dishwasher. So while there are plenty of dishes, it would be challenging to wash and dry them all by hand.
Lastly, many of the rooms don't have doors (including one of the bathrooms), so there isn't much privacy. The Loft and Hobbit Room in the Eco Cabin are just mattresses on the floor, nothing else. Oh, and the WiFi is pretty much useless.
We did not complain to Linda because we made the best of it and enjoyed our time together, but I just wanted people who come for a trip like ours to have an accurate idea of what the place has to offer. Again, small groups or people who won't cook or hang out on property could do well here. We hold this family reunion every year and for us it was not ideal. We will not be back.
Side note: We went strawberry picking at Darnell Farms - YUM. Their DreamWhip (soft serve ice cream treat) may be the most delicious thing I have ever tasted. Do yourself a favor and get a large one.

Thank you for your kind comment about me personally and that the gardens and neighborhood were absolutely gorgeous.
Re booking rooms for your family reunion. I wish I’d been informed in advance that in addition to the 16 people in the paid reservation, that there would be additional people come and stay over, plus local family members who would spend most of the day and evening at the location. At one point, there were at least 10 vehicles.
The listing says “guests say it’s a GREAT RETREAT setting w/enough rooms for a 14 person reunion”
If I had known, there would be so many more people than the maximum capacity posted on the listing, I would have informed you that the listing wasn’t suitable for that large of a family reunion and would have suggested that you rented a hall in nearby Bryson City or Franklin.
The 2-story Eco Cabin has the Hobbit & Loft with mattresses to allow more head room as represented in the photos and in the detailed descriptions. Additionally, the accommodations have 11 raised quality beds. The Nature's Rest Suite, Wood Room & Fireplace Room each are very large. Plus there is a separate bunk house not listed.
The accommodation is spacious and suitable for groups up to 16 people indoors but not for a large family reunion with several dozen people & 8 children.
Re bathrooms: there are four separate bathrooms, three of which have a regular door, and the fourth which is an ensuite off a bedroom has a double set of curtains instead.
Re doors: There are stairs in the rocking chair room & the loft doesn’t not have a formal door due to it being a loft.
The WiFi provided is sufficient for streaming video and normal usage, that said, there has never been such an over capacity group before, and if so many people were using the WiFi that could account for a slower speed.

Comfort in the Smokies!
While I stayed at Eco Rose Manor, I thoroughly enjoyed the fireplace room, its complete bathroom, and fully equipped second kitchen. Being in the mountains constantly adds to this lovely lodging as I went to sleep listening to crickets and awoke to birds chirping. Linda's beautiful property and extensive collection of books and movies may tempt you to stay in, but there is so much to explore in every direction! Water activities in Nantahala, hiking in Deep Creek, music in Sylva, and so much more is near (Franklin, Dillsboro, Cherokee, Highlands). Asheville is 1.5 hours away and definitely worth a trip! What makes this rental even better is Linda's friendly personality, knowledge of the area, and commitment to keeping a clean, eco friendly property!

Group organizers arriving first
The home and cottage are very attractive on arrival.
With all the owner's emphasis on non smoking and eco friendliness, we expected it to be immaculate for respiratorily sensitive people: dry and dust free for our group who were more than half people with allergies and sensitivities.
Just opening the door, the damp and smell of mildew hit me hard, my face and ears completely stopped up and left me dizzy. Homeowner said she had never had a problem in 300 guests, but you wonder, allergies are not rare.
A number of our guests developed respiratory problems from allergies to the mustiness. An elderly gentleman was forced to sleep in his car, not that he wanted to. One member had such deep congestion from the musty house, it caused severe vertigo, which made it impossible to participate in the 2 most important of our 3 activities. The vertigo caused a bad fall in a bathtub.
There were huge dehumidifiers all over the houses, so the owner was indeed aware of the severe dampness even as she denied it.
I slept upstairs, which was less musty, but had been overly sprayed with an artificially scented room freshener that hurt my sinuses and made me feel sick.
Downstairs batheooms had toilets too tall or child sized for adults. The.kitchen was so tiny, the kitchen sink replaced the bathroom sink in the adjacent bathroom. Nobody could believe a kitchen sink just a couple ft from the toilet.
One "room" was a walk in closet with a twin bed in it, that cost one of us $67/ night for three nights. A closet!
Owner also required us when leaving to sweep, vacuum, and dust, or a service would be charged to a member's credit card.
We were disappointed, because the congestion we developed due to the mildew in the houses affexted how we felt and slept, it took a lot of the funout of the trip for five of our ten.
Réponse de VrboOwner le 23 mars 2020
I was standing beside this reviewer when she opened the doors & there was no mention of mustiness or a problem of any kind then or during their stay so this is an anomaly to all our other positive reviews & quite surprising.
The only incident I was made aware of was one casual mention of sorry that a guest's car horn went off after 2 am as it was because of the group's smoker coughing so he decided to stay in his car to avoid bothering others. The man told me he had a chronic condition whereas the reviewer made out that "he developed it because of mustiness." No guest has ever made such a claim before.
I, myself suffer from allergies & am sensitive to mildew & musty odors, so if there had been an issue I would have addressed it.
I have NEVER used "an artificially scented room freshener", instead what the reviewer smelled was the natural citrus cleaning product that is used to steam mop the floor.
Over the course of 3 days, prior to the reviewer's arrival on July 28, EVERY surface in the guests' areas were thoroughly cleaned, and all 13 beds had their mattress pads, comforters, blankets in addition to sheets and pillows washed with non-toxic natural laundry detergent. Several of the beds & pillows are less than 1 year old.
It is true that it rained during most of this group's stay, & that the air in general outdoors was moist and humid, as by door. The First Level & Eco Cabin have efficient dehumidifers & air conditioners; I do not know if these guests had turned them on, off or not.
The unique Harry Potter's Room that reviewer called the closet, is one of our popular rooms & when added on to a package, ranges in price from $30-35 depending on how many people are in the group. There were 12 other bed choices with several of the suites over 400 sq. feet. The reviewer booked & organized for a group of 12 (but had 10) & divided fees however the $67 she charged is clearly twice what I would have charged.
There are two kitchens. The largest kitchen is in the Eco Cabin, & there is a smaller "bonus" kitchen which is the one she is referring to. There is also a lovely outdoor BBQ & fire pit area that they didn't use.
It saddens me that this is a misrepresentation of Rose Manor, as I go the extra mile to make the place eco-friendly and a special retreat for groups, as evidenced by all the positive reviews and repeat guests.

peaceful interlude in the green zone
My lady and I stayed for several days at Linda's ecologically-minded enclave. No sound of traffic, elevator music or yelling in the distance. I'm talking total silence. This place is really out-of-the-way. Not that far from Asheville but quite secluded, deep into woods and farms but convenient to Bryson City, Franklin and Highlands, NC. Linda has created a peaceful and eco-friendly spot, with two beautiful stone houses. The rest is just landscape and woods. You're surrounded by greenery and natural peace. Great place to get away from it all! BTW, this place is motorcycle heaven for those so inclined. The roads are gorgeous and twisty!

Great location and a great house for families with kids
We spent a week at this house with extended family (two 70-something grandparents, four 40-something parents, and three kids under-10). Made s'mores on the firepit, looked for frogs and fireflies on the creek, and drove to Deep Creek every day for tubing, hiking, and playing. It was wonderful! I'll stay here again next time I'm in Bryson City.

Strongly Recommend!!!
We've rented a lot of VRBO homes over the years, in a lot of different States, and a lot of different Countries too. Linda was by far the most gracious host we've ever encountered.
We took our 14 year old son, along with some of his friends, and their parents to Bryson City for some trout fishing, hiking, sight seeing, train riding, and white water rafting.
Linda's property was easy to find; very clean, teen friendly, multi-family accommodating, and located in a scenic setting. She went out of her way to make sure our visit went well. She even pointed out where the local's "honey hole" fishing locations were located.
If you're ever planning a vacation in the smokey mountains, we strongly recommend renting Linda's property!!!

Eight men (7 bikes & 1 truck) headed to the NC/TN mountains for a 4-day getaway in search of great riding. We needed lodging for up to 10 and was lucky to find Linda's rentals. Linda was great in providing insight to the Rose Manor and Eco Cabin accommodations during our phone conversations. Linda made the scheduling really easy and was there to welcome us when we arrived. Linda provided enough bedding options that every guy had their own bed with a couple to spare. There are 3-4 King/Full/Double beds and a few twins spread around in different places if you need more. The highlight of the location is the fire pit and grill setup down the stone stairs from the lodging. We cooked out there 2 of 3 nights and talked, joked, laughed, and lied to each other until after midnight each evening. Although the driveway is grass/gravel it was very solid and we all drove up and parked next to the house. Another highlight for bikers is Linda's place is just off Hwy 28 so you get at least 5 miles of twisty road riding every time you leave from and come to the lodging. We were able to ride through the Great Smokey Mountain National Park, ride the Tail of the Dragon (US 129), and visit the Wheels Through Time motorcycle museum in Maggy Valley, this is a must for any motorcycle enthusiast. Everywhere you go provided a wonderful view, great roads, and friendly people.

I found NIRVANA!
Setting up the rental was easy enough and the owner responded quickly with detailed information. Linda has a very keen sense and will help you rent appropriate lodging with a little info, this was greatly appreciated! Directions to Rose Manor were very accurate and finding it was very easy! Upon arriving, Linda introduced herself, walked me through the rental and shared any and all info I needed to know. She also is a gracious host and will guide you to some local places that you wouldn't find on your own, that make the stay extra special! She also has an uncanny ability to give you just what you need, as I arrived in great pain from a Fibromyalgia flare up, which she eased with a Kemp seed drink, that I accepted without hesitation. We discussed many things that might help me and after 12 years of no help from physicians, Linda cured a debilitating ailment, that I am still free of 3 days later! This goes beyond any expectation I could have ever asked for! I find her to be an accepting, open and very inspirational woman who is very humble, with a knowledge base of organic foods and healthy living, like no other! She is happy to share her time with you or let you spend your time quietly, absorbing the wonderful atmosphere Rose Manor emits. Be sure to visit all areas of the grounds, for they offer observing wildlife, butterflies, the calming sway of the trees and the beautiful gardens all around. I anxiously await my next visit, as soon as I have vacation time to come back! I've stayed in dozens of places in my life, but none leave the memory that I keep for myself, that Rose Manor and Linda gave me. I came as a guest and left a friend, thank you Linda, can't wait to visit again!

"I Don't Think We're in Kansas Any More Toto!"
My good friend and I take a long motorcyle ride each year from Kansas and this year we brought his younger son with us to North Carolina. We stayed three nights in the cabin at Rose Manor and it is a spectacular property and location.
The photos on this site give one a good feel for the place, but in person, it is so much more impressive. The lower level creek, garden, and fire pit sitting area are great for quiet get-aways or group conversation alike. Likewise, the upper level decks and sitting areas are an open invitation to admire the surrounding beauty and enjoy good company.
Being motorcyclists, location was very important and Rose Manor places the rider amidst one of the richest treasure troves of riding opportunities available anywhere in the US. Within a fifty mile radius of Rose Manor, we found some of the most challenging and/or scenic rides we have ever ridden. The best-known rides include Dragon's Tail, Cherhola Skyway, and Blue Ridge Parkway...but there are countless lesser known, even unnamed rides, that are more than memorable. Our favorite one was a shorter run on Hwy 28 from Franklin south to Highlands...great curves, pavement surface and pitching, plus a beautiful photo-op at Bridal Veil Falls.
Just prior to our trip, my friend, our wives and I saw James Taylor in concert (Wichita) and "Carolina on My Mind" rings especially true now that we've sampled The Great Smoky Mountains and surrounding areas of southeastern NC. Our stay at Rose Manor couldn't have been better and we'll be looking for the opportunity to return again to enjoy more of the Carolinas and the special nuances of Linda's place and southern hospitality.

Renewing Body and Soul in the Woods.
As you travel a lovely winding paved road along side a running creek, via auto or motorcycle, you will be inspired by the views and the tranquility of the area. You will pass farm animals along the way and as you near the property and glance to the right you may be greeted by handsome horses and if you are lucky may catch deer grazing in the meadow. Pulling into Rose Manor I was warmly greeted by Owner, Linda and immediately felt my body relax and unwind as I took in the essence of Rose Manor. Every window displayed colorful views of the surrounding woods.
Carefully cleaned rooms, sweet smelling sheets, warm blankets and all the little amenities and attention to details, would make any guest feel contented and cared for. The area provides so many things to do and also the peaceful space to do nothing. I have returned here several times and will always make it one of my favorite destinations. Don't miss this memorable stay.

Fantastic Stay!
The cabin is truly beautiful. It's amazing that Linda, the owner, actually built the eco-cabin herself! She is a fascinating and welcoming host. The organic garden is wonderful and Linda sent us home with argula, tomatoes, and carrots for a tasty salad when we arrived back home! We roasted marshmellows on the fire pit under the star-filled sky and enjoyed the sound of the babbling creek. It was an fantastic stay.

In the Trees by the Creek
I arrived to the Smoky Mountains from San Francisco with the desire to get out of the 'big city' and into a more peaceful, natural environment. I immediately felt welcome at the Rose Manor and settled in to my own, private room, complete with a fireplace, bathroom, and kitchen. Everything was cleaner and nicer than I anticipated. From my bedroom window, I can look out toward the beautiful trees surrounding the property. With the windows open, I can hear the lovely birds singing and the relaxing sound of the creek down below. There is also a beautiful eco-friendly cabin where larger groups of travelers can stay. Hiking trails begin from the driveway and the Smoky Mountain National Park and Nantahala are a short drive away. There is an organic garden which generously provides me with delicious vegetables to cook with. I can highly recommend this property for anyone looking to get back to nature and enjoy the peace and beauty of the Smoky Mountains. I'm still here and I don't want to leave ! :)

Eco Paradise
What a pleasure to finally have a vacation rental that far exceeded our expectations. I have a family of five plus my parents joined us to vacation in the smokey mountains. The accommodations were excellent. The apartment was clean, private and had all the experience of a eco resort. Linda was amazing and made us feel very welcomed. It was like staying in our own home. We stayed during 4th of July weekend and the rates were very fair. I would have expected to pay much more for
what we experienced. We will be back and if your smart and want to get away for a relaxing vacation you would take your family.

Awesome time!
Our family stayed here for two nights and three days, we had an awesome time!! The Eco cabin was very comfortable, clean, and super relaxing!! Definitely the place if you are looking to unwind and getaway from stress. We travelled with three kids ages 12, 10, 7 and my in-laws. Plenty of stuff to do, the kids caught our dinner!! We went trout fishing and the boys were very proud to serve the whole family what they caught :) We went tubing, saw great fireworks and went to the Highlands. Very scenic, peaceful, beautiful place for nature lovers and families. Landlord is very accommodating, sweet, and extremely knowledgeable about organic farming- super cool!!

Be Connected to Your Environment, Be Green.. So many sustainable principles went into building Smoky Mountain Rose Manor Vacation property. Since conceived in 1975, when an artist family who was “into” health foods and organic gardening decided to build an environmentally friendly residence, the property has been looked at through eco-conscious eyes. Preserving trees that provide valuable shading during the summer months, composting, and non toxic & biodegradable soaps and cleaners are utilized with eco system protection in mind. When new buildings were constructed using renewable materials there was negligible home site disruption. There was controlled demolition of two existing shed buildings with the recovered materials reused. Very low level or zero chemical contaminants were released during construction by using solvent-free adhesives, zero VOC paint and ‘GreenSeries for green building’ products and use of materials that do not off-gas harmful emissions. No chemical fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides have been used on property. Natural resources have been conserved, generating less waste by using recycled products such as recycled plastic lumber for decking, salvaged materials, certified forest products, compact fluorescent bulbs, low flow water fittings, and rainwater harvested for plantings. Proper window & skylight placement for natural ventilation for day lighting and fresh air along with HEPA/high efficiency particular air filters are used as a sustainable strategy. Insulation in main house is formaldehyde-free and in Eco home insulation is spray soy based for energy efficiency. Clean air burning wood stove in Eco cabin but hasn’t been used, no need for a heat pump. Solar is not an option at this time as houses are nestled in tall trees. Occupants have low-impact lifestyles by being organic and vegan and non-smoking. Did you know that by just turning the tap off while brushing your teeth you can save 8 gallons of water per??? Leigh Sealy from GA states “Smoky Mountain Paradise” I had an incredible stay at Rose Manor in the beautiful Smoky Mountains of NC. Each morning was more gorgeous than the last and the eco-cabin afforded me an incredible view. Linda made me feel like family and made sure I had every last thing I could need to insure a comfortable and relaxing stay. The cabin itself was so neat- it was like a giant tree house that rose up out of the side of a mountain. It was both spacious and yet extremely practical with its use of space. It was filled with interesting books and puzzle games. Linda knows a lot about eco-friendly living! I enjoyed exploring the rose gardens & the beginnings of an incredible organic fruit and veggie garden. There is also a rushing stream on the property that you can hear from your bedroom! I also recommend taking walks at sunset down the scenic country roads & be sure to stop & watch animals. I recommend Rose Manor to anyone looking to get away to the mountains and back to the earth! ****"Very nice place to stay. Quiet, clean, everything you need, and the Owner is very helpful. I will be coming back with the family".***** "What a Gem of a place! Mrs. Linda was as hospitable and welcoming as any property owner could ever be! Myself and two children (Ages 7 & 5) couldn't bring ourselves to leave the Eco Cabin as it was full of surprises to explore. We just enjoyed the simplicity and stillness that the mountains have to offer..."
