Fantastic place for a get together with the extended family. We enjoyed the pool and game room. And the space was good for hanging out. Kitchen was well equipped. Would definitely recommend.
Absolutely peaceful and beautiful the whole family enjoyed the pool as well as the pond caught lots of fish and the kids enjoyed swimming in as well. Hosts were wonderful and accommodating very good experience hoping to return again
The property is large, well-appointed and clean. Kitchen was very well stocked and the lower level game room is a hit! Property owners were very easy to work with and communication was top notch.
My coworkers and I have been coming here for the last 3 years and will definitely be back! Julie is an amazing host. Very kind and responsive. The cabin is always so clean and the amenities are perfect. Highly recommend!
We had the best stay at this cabin! The grounds were absolutely beautiful land cabin was super clean and lots of room. Will definitely stay here again!!
We had a wonderful time here! The house is just as it appears in the pictures - beautiful and clean! We were a party of 17 ranging in ages from 6-78. There was plenty of space for everyone to sleep (we also brought some air mattresses so all of the kids could sleep in the play room downstairs). The grounds were beautifully kept. The lake and pool were great! The fire pit was fun! And the house had enough room for everyone to enjoy each otherâs company, but not be on top of each other. The kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans for our cooking needs, and the table fit our entire party together, which we really enjoyed. We were there for a week, and wished our stay was longer! Additionally, it is about an hour from several Ohio attractions - Cleveland, Cedar Point, Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Cuyahoga Valley National Park (those were the places we visited while there). But staying at the house and relaxing in the peaceful quiet of West Salem was wonderful. We liked visiting the Amish farm-stand a few doors down from the house. They had fresh veggies, some fruit, and some baked goods (all were delicious). And Julie was wonderfully attentive. We had one small issue while there, which she had taken care of immediately. We definitely would stay again!
This stay was absolutely wonderful. The house is beautiful and very clean. We had a family Thanksgiving weekend together with 21 people ages 2-91 and enjoyed every second of it. Owners are great and communicate very well. Area is very peaceful and we found a really nice park about 10-15 minutes away for a hike. We would stay here again.
Julie was very helpful and easy to deal with. The place and property is great; providing seclusion but not far from the interstate making it easy to access and get away at the same time. Already planning a return trip.
We rented the house for a weekend with the kids and grandkids. The home was beautiful. It had a great backyard where we were able to play volleyball. The pond was really nice for swimming. We would stay there again!
Great property, very well maintained. The grounds are beautiful, game room and pond were great for kids. Will be back. Read the instructions carefully, note that things like firewood and wifi access must be purchased separately.
Had a staff weekend at the lodge. Everyone had such a great time. With a large group of 18 we never felt cramped as the place is HUGE! This is our second year staying here. Honestly it checks all of our boxes and will probably be the site for our next staff appreciation weekend. Julie was very responsive and made the stay from start to finish very pleasant. Highly recommend!
Working with Julie was a dream, she was quick to respond and answered all of my questions thoroughly. The lodge is beautiful, was clean and well equipped. We never even left the lodge/area during our entire stay. The kitchen made it easy to bring in all of our food for the weekend and spend time enjoying each other instead of running around.
Lots of entertaining areas in this house. The husbands spent most of their time in the basement playing pool, video games, cards and watching football. The wives were upstairs in the great room, kitchen and on the deck. Lots of good communication with the owner. The 5 bedrooms worked out great for the 5 couples. Enough beds to accommodate another 10 people.
Overall, a great time had by all. We'll be back!
The house is spacious & clean. The property & acreage was perfect.
We had 11 grandkids (ages 1-16), 5 parents, & 1 grandparent stay at the property for 5 days in mid June. Weather was perfect (75-80 every day). The kids all had a blast playing in the pond, using the paddle boats & canoes, & fishing. We had bon fires at night, kickball, water balloon fights, & went on lots of walks around the property.
It's heavily wooded so we didn't really encounter many hiking trails but still plenty of space to walk around & explore.
The house is not very stocked so you need to bring extra tp, paper towels, kitchen towels, soap, detergent, spices, etc... It also does not have anything for babies (cups, plates, crib, etc..)
But it was a wonderful property perfect for large families.
We were searching for a place to get our whole family together, nine adults and nine kids age 10 to 18. We wanted a place where we could come and stay for the weekend without having to leave to be entertained. Golden Bear was the perfect place. It was the perfect place for us. Plenty of room for us to gather and plenty f places to escape for a little alone time.
We spent a lot of time swimming in the pond and playing games in the basement. We wished we would have brought more lawn games as there is a great yard for any number of activities.
The kitchen was great an had everything we needed for great family.
Julie was great to work with. She responded to every question quickly and and provided a lot of details about what was around. We would go back in a second.
Our group of 8 women - life-long friends - enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home. Some of the activities we enjoyed: relaxing on the upper deck using the eight cushioned chairs and umbrella table, enjoyed the rocking chairs on lower deck, we used the very clean hot tub, watched a couple of movies in the lower level movie room. It was nice that we each had our own bed - nice sheets and towels. Very well stocked kitchen - we cooked/grilled all our food during our stay. Nice commercial Bun coffee maker - two refrigerators - automatic ice maker - dishes - knives - etc. Thank you for your help with changing the propane tank on the grill! - Jesse walked us through changing it out on the phone, so we could finish our shrimp kabobs! Everything was wonderful, we want to book our get-a-way here next year!
Fantastic facility with lots of room indoor and out. We especially loved the long table for family gatherings. We loved taking walks on the road with the many beautiful Amish farms. We bought fresh fruit and pies from the farm stand at the farm next door. I wish I hadnât brought eggs and bought theirs instead. My nephewâs 3 year old caught his first fish in the pond. The log cabin floors were loud, footsteps and voices echo. I would bring a white noise machine for the babies next time. Also, there are no full length mirrors and only mirrors in the bathrooms which made it a little more challenging for 15 to get dressed for a wedding. But the facility was clean, spacious, beautiful. 5 star stay for sure!
The Survival of 3 Generations On One Snowy Weekend
On a snowy Ohio winter weekend, our group included three generations, half of whom were ages 3-13. For the sake of the children, we planned some outdoor activities. Fortunately, because of the togetherness and many games (arcade included), everyone was content to stay inside. No one complained of boredom.
Although itâs called a lodge, despite the large number of people we had (14), it really has the warmth of a large, fully equipped home. Thereâs enough space to come together or have time alone. Because it seems that the owners thought of just about everything, a lot of the supplies we brought werenât needed.
The property is very much secluded (not in a creepy way) but close enough to civilization to make a quick trip to a store or go out for a meal.
Everyone (including the non-verbal communication of the 3-year-old) said they had an enjoyable time. The adults said it was worth the money.
