Book your next getaway to this beautiful custom-built rural rustic barn/house that boasts 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms with a large open living room and kitchen and spacious open loft with more beds, total of 9 beds. This unique custom-built barn/house is only two years old, furnished and fitted with our guests in mind, Rathbun Rustic Retreat welcomes you home to thoughtful amenities for playing, relaxing and memory making.

Located on the North side of Lake Rathbun less than a mile from Honey Creek Resort, 6 miles from Honey Creek State Park and several dining options very close by. Multiple boat ramps close by for great fishing or ice fishing or a beautiful day on the Wonderful Lake Rathbun. We have plenty of space to park boats, boat trailers along with any size vehicles, ATV trailers, or RV’s. It also has an RV/Camper hook-up for those that have larger families and need the extra room! This space includes electricity for an extra fee of $30 per night.

Loft floors & walls are reclaimed 110-year-old plus Fir from the old Williamsburg, IA Hospital. Electric Heated Fireplace custom made with Walnut live edge slabs and reclaimed stones. Custom Spalted Maple live edge Steps with baby gate at bottom. Trim around doors is custom cut Hackberry. 50-year-old lighted signs, new old gutters inside & neat old boat motor. Tons of old rustic charm!

Large group stay

Would highly recommend for any group looking to stay near Lake Rathbun. This property was the perfect spot for our 8 couples to stay comfortably with some privacy. The property manager was incredibly helpful and accommodating to ensure we had a positive experience. Incredible experience all around!

We had a great visit! Everything we needed was there! They thought of everything! we had 3 generations / 7 subfamilies ranging from 2-77. Everyone was comfortable. Will stay again!

Spacious property for large group close to lake

Perfect gathering space for a large group! The owners offered so many extra amenities that made the stay comfortable and convenient. Soft blankets everywhere, a large sectional for a big family to relax and watch TV, a cabinet full of games, a well stocked kitchen, full mirrors in all bedrooms, washer and dryer, well appointed and clean outdoor space and so many beds!! The owners are responsive and great to work with. We already look forward to our next stay!

Girls weekend

This home is stocked with everything you need! We had 12 women and we had an amazing time. The bedrooms and beds are comfy, the kitchen was fully stocked, the bathrooms have everything you need. The outside area is really nice. It was a bit cold out but if you enjoy a fire they have all you need for that also. Would totally recommend anyone to stay here.

60th Anniversary Get-Away

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rathburn Rustic Retreat. The owners are very helpful and accommodating and always easy to contact for details. We celebrated our parents 60th wedding anniversary and 80th birthdays while we were visiting and the retreat provided the perfect space for all of us to be together and make many new memories. Honeycreek resort and state park were both within very close distance and provided some nice amenities for us all to enjoy. It was a great experience and one we highly recommend! Don & Kim Good

The weather was great! 11 adults, 2 babies, a 4 year old and 7 year old stayed there, grandson & wife lived close by, and son-in-law & wife stayed in campground nearby with their small dogs. Everything was comfortable, clean and kitchen was impressively stocked for every need. My only problem was with BnB booking which had my wrong address and never did get good info from them. The hosts saved the day!

I'm so glad you all had a wonderful time staying with us! Unfortunately, the issues you experienced were not directly related to our property, but rather to VRBO issues. Her rating reflects her VRBO issues, as she has requested to update this review to show 5 stars for her stay with us, but VRBO will not do it.

Great time! The house was very well stocked w/kitchen & bathroom items. Was awkward to have an ensuite bathroom with no door. Guests had to use other bathroom during the night. Yard was huge! Garage was also used for indoor space during rainfall. Would recommend house overall 😉
