Historic DC rowhome - five minutes from the White House

The historic DC row home is perfect for families and small groups looking for a vacation (or longer term) rental in the heart of Washington. Your accommodations are less than 1 mile from the White House and a short walk from the bars and eateries of 14th Street NW. Parking is available ($14.50 per night) though you shouldn't need to drive in our safe and walkable neighborhood. Please be aware that this grande dame is a work in progress, and not all rooms have been updated. The kitchen for example is functional but dated and some rooms have cosmetic issues such as damaged paint. If this doesn't bother you - welcome! If you are looking for this scale of accommodations in our neighborhood, in immaculate updated condition - swipe left. Please note also that this is not a party house. Strict no events / no parties policy is required out of respect for our neighbors. Unauthorized parties will be shut down hopefully before our neighbors call the police.

Great Coffee shop around the corner . Quiet location . Plenty of space to spread out and relax at the end of the day . Well stocked .

The location is amazing and just what I was looking for. The home is quirky, though. Nice light fixtures but several can't be turned on because the wall switches are damaged so there are no lights in the kitchen. There are 3 bathrooms (yay) and the 2nd and 3rd floor ones are recently updated. The one on the first floor is tucked away off the kitchen and has a toilet and a shower but no sink.For the price and location, I would recommend this house as long as you are ok with some quirks.

Very cute place. Very clean on the inside. Would not have sat out on the deck chairs. It needs some instructions on TV use to find channels, stove/oven, and kitchen lights (they work). Some restoration needed but it does say that in the description. We enjoyed the together space and that we could cook a meal together.

Big disappointment. The refrigerator never worked and there was no apparent attempt to repair it.

The property mngr was contacted immediately with regard to the non-functioning refrigerator. It was never fixed or even looked at. I booked a VRBO because I desired a kitchen to fix some of our meals, especially breakfast. The property is in disrepair and needs some attention.I would NOT recommend booking this property.

pleasant stay, exactly as advertised

This property is precisely what it says in the listing: a spacious and comfortable (but not immaculate) home in a can't-be-beat neighborhood. Like the owner warned, if peeling paint bothers you... find another place. If not, stay here and enjoy! Easy walking distance to the metro and tons of great restaurants. We were surprised by how large the home was for only having 3 bedrooms! Will definitely keep this place bookmarked for future stays.

Great Location

Location was great, checkin process was great and we were able to purchase an early checkin time which was key to our trip. Didn’t see hot tub but wasn’t going to use it anyway.

Simpe and comfortable living

The house was great! It is best for a group that is okay wirhh a simple stay. The neighborhood is fantastic. The house was very clean and check in was easy. We felt so comfortable and it was a great community space.

Great Townhome, close to everything

We came for the national bike summit and this location was perfectly located! We rented bikes and rode all over DC. This property is well located for biking and walking, plus a great taco place, great breakfast nearby and a fun, vibrant neighborhood. The house is just fabulous, a work in progress for sure, but the history here, the squeaky floors, tidy patio, historical moldings, radiant heat...it was the DC experience we have always wanted!

Great location, needs attention

Spacious townhouse in a great location. Renovations are required and apparently ongoing. Flaking paint, a broken chair, loose curtain rods. Living area is comfortable, kitchen very small.

Great location!

This place was perfect for me and my kids ages 25, 23, and 16 for a 3 night stay. Approximately 1 mile walk to the White House, 2 miles to Union Station. Plenty of restaurants, CVS, and a market all within a few blocks. The parking space in the back of the unit is a huge bonus!!! There is no overnight parking anywhere close. If I have any complaints, it’s the erotic art. Some may like it, I found it in very poor taste. Overall, I’d stay here again without hesitation.

Adorable Townhouse in Great Location

My young adult kids and I stayed here while visiting family for Thanksgiving. The house is spacious and adorable, with plenty of room and well-thought-out, everything you could need. For example, there are even spare reading glasses near the books in the living room. The picturesque neighborhood is quiet but within a 5-10 minute walk to lots of activity; restaurants, bars, shops, sights and the metro. Two grocery stores are within walking distance as well. We brought multipleThanksgiving side dishes to our family gathering which I cooked in the kitchen. The kitchen looks small, but, as the owner notes, is very functional and is packed with everything needed. We did have a car. The parking is right behind the house, which is excellent off street parking, a rare amenity in DC.

Relax close to everything in this Brownstone near Dupont Circle

Easy access to everything in this lovely neighborhood of brownstones a 10 min walk to Dupont Circle metro stop, mere 3 blocks from a bike stop. With a sunny balcony, living room of couches, bathroom on all three levels, and plenty of space. Yes, as specified it is undergoing/needing some wall repair etc. That did not inhibit us from enjoying our time in the space. We did not cook much at all so the small kitchen with very few decent pots and pans was noted but again not an issue for the three of us. It had all the essentials of microwave, toaster, coffee percolator, large fridge, drawer of canvas grocery bags, we even used the intsapot :) Remodeled bathrooms, desks for working on each level, and a key keeper outside for easy group coming/going. Plenty of towels and pillows, laundry upstairs, and beautiful trees out the windows. Very quiet neighborhood, particularly considering how close we are to restaurants/Safeway/transit etc. One thing of note for owner is a very slow shower drain on top floor. I don't know when I will be back next, but I will stay here again and suggest it to any one I know :)

Great! but..

Great location, plenty of beds. I was aware of the condition of the house and was totally fine with it, that being said it was a bit more than what was described. The light in the kitchen doesnt work at all- seems like the switch is broken. Unfortunately the same issue is in the kitchen- the lights dont work. so two connected rooms with no lights... after the sun went down I had to use a flashlight on my phone to walk through half of the first floor. I feel that theres a difference between things not being updated and not working at all.

Family Vacation--OK...BUT...

The house was in a good neighborhood, but had the most uncomfortable furniture. For a 3 story 3 bedroom house, there was only one TV (on floor one) in the living room and it only worked 50% of the time due to internet issues. There was an electric fan in 2 bedrooms, but only one worked. The AC worked on floors 2 & 3, but you had to go to floor 3 every 6-7 hours and turn it back on or the temp went back up to 78 degrees. Floor 1 had a window AC unit that worked very well. There were no directions about what to do with the trash, linens, or towels upon checkout like other places I've stayed in. There were no suggestions for local restaurants or shopping. I wouldn't stay here again, but we had a good week enjoying the sights of DC.

Amazing location, low key home

First of all, this was a great home rental and we would definitely stay here again! The description is vey accurate - it is rough around the edges - but the location cannot be beat, and the home has a lot going for it.I'm just going to note some things that stood out to me.PROS-Incredible location. Not quite walkable to the mall considering how much walking we did while touring, but cheap Lyfts to anywhere in DC. Fabulous restaurants, coffee shop, bars, etc. within a short walk. The Metro was close enough.-Very spacious. Plenty of beds and places to hang out. Even some out door space!-We LOVED the two person balcony off the second floor bedroom for morning coffee.-Laid back, easy going vibe from hosts.-Well appointed - anything you could imagine a rental house might need, this one had. (They could use one newer large saute pan)CONS-A LOT of stair climbing. We knew going in that it is a three floor row house, but be prepared to climb creaky, sometimes uneven steps many times during your stay.-The beds were OK, but not fabulous. The second floor back bedroom in particular was a very firm spring mattress that was quite uncomfortable to us. We just moved upstairs and it was much better. Our kids had no trouble.-Shower water pressure and temperature was sufficient, but not fabulous.Any place could be nitpicked. This one had its character, but was a good value and so much better than a hotel room for 4 people!Thanks for hosting us!!

Booked this house months ago with an intended stay during National Police Week. The house was a bit more in need of TLC than the listing said. If you have an issue with stairs, do not book this one, there are lots of them. The good thing about them is that NO ONE could break in at night and come upstairs without you hearing them!The owner was good with communication and we had no issues that needed his immediate attention. With that being said, instructions of TV operation would have been helpful as we couldn't get it to work. Screens on the windows would have been nice as it would have helped cool the upper part of the house down at night and kept the bugs out. The 2 pieces of "artwork" in the dining area were disgusting and absolutely inappropriate for display in a rental. I'm glad that we didn't have young impressionable children with us to have to explain them or answer questions about them.We did feel pretty safe in the area and the walk to the Metro was a bit farther than we had originally thought it to be but there were lots of beautiful homes to view on the way to the station.We weren't sure about check-out as, like another customer mentioned, there weren't any instructions to tell us if we needed to do anything. We paid a cleaning fee, so we figured that should have covered it.Our stay in this home was nice enough but none of us was WOWED by it to stay here again.

Great neighborhood, cool house

We enjoyed exploring DC with this beautiful row home as our base. The neighborhood is gorgeous and we felt very comfortable walking to the Mall and back. There are lots of cool restaurants, coffee shops, and stores close by. The nights were pretty quiet for being in the city. The house itself is incredible - three stories, with beautiful floors and some nice updates. The bathroom on the topmost floor is fully redone, and the one on the second is mostly redone. The kitchen is in rough shape, but it’s usable. The fridge is huge and there are plenty of utensils and plates and such. The nitpicky stuff: - when we came in, there were two pieces of erotic art on the wall in the dining room that we were not prepared for our young children to see
 just a heads up for others who may be traveling with young kiddos. - There is plaster peeling off some of the walls from what appears to be past water damage. In a house that old, I’d assume there’s lead paint. So maybe not a great idea for families with mobile babies - The toaster oven is finicky and the oven’s knobs are worn to where you can’t see the temp setting. We weren’t cooking a ton, so it wasn’t a huge deal, but it may be for others who plan to be in the kitchen more. - The public water in DC tastes horrible - Lots of stairs may be a challenge for older guests or managing little ones - Come prepared with extra toilet paper, paper towels, and trash bags. We had just enough but were rationing by our last morning!
