We were celebrating our 15 year anniversary! The cabin was absolutely beautiful inside and out. The veiws were breathtaking. Very peaceful and private. It was the highest cabin on the hill which meant the longest drive up and down the mountain. It felt like an adventure! We highly recommend this place. We will be staying again!
I would stay a time and time again. My mom is already trying to plan a vacay where she can come here breath taking views, great owners, and you have everything you need right there. Driveway is a little crazy so be prepared, but you get used to it. I was literally in a cloud at one point. I could feel the moisture and see it move from the valley to the deck where I was saying. It was like thick fog. Crazy feeling!!!
Cabin was great. View is outstanding. Road to cabin was good Owner was very responsive to texts spent 8 nights there and we loved it. Very Private awesome experience.
We a group of retirees and still employed suckers from the agency have annual trip. Group size varies year to year so finding a cabin big enough to accommodate us is a challenge along with mobility challenges sometime. This cabin was great. It was at the top and I do mean top of a mtn. Great views , great accommodations. Look forward to returning.
All in all we had an amazing experience! Own was very very informative and helpful. He called to notify us that the bitter cold they had been experiencing had frozen some pipes. He worked till the problem was fixed and we were able to stay as planned. Wehad some crazy wind at the top of the mpuntain and lost power for a while. He was very helpfull in keeping us up to date on the power company progress on fixing the issue affecti g the mountain Some trees cam down in the wind and he was able to get me acess to a chainsaw so i could clear the road so as to not impede our vacation. And mostly, the view is literaly the most beai have EVER seen in all our stays in North 8thCarolina.r
We stayed here 5 nights it is an amazing property. The back deck faces south so you can see the sun rise and set over the valley. The house lives up to its name stargazer i have many pictures of the stars out at night. If looking at the stars is something that interest you go when the moon is cose to new phase for best view of the stars.the inside of the house is very nice . The kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans if you choose to cook.
Challenging to get to, primarily due to torrential downpours that made the long gravel road almost impassible at times. House is nice overall but could use some minor maintenance throughout.
We loved Stargazer! We live a couple of hours away and just needed a cozy place to hang for our wedding anniversary with our pup. This place was well stocked and everything worked great! The views are incredible and stargazing from the hot tub was perfect.
This cabin does have very lovely views from the front deck. And the hot tub was nice after hiking days. Way finding to the cabin could be better (go to end of road instead of looking for house number) and the road is a bit rough, but manageable with a regular car in good weather.
The beauty of this cabin is only surpassed by the beauty of the surroundings. This was the spot perfect for a relaxing weekend. Being able to be isolated at the cabin and yet a quick drive to town if you need something makes it ideal and convenient. Even my super picky 16 year old had a good time.
Wow, literally on top of a mountain! Just know it is a 10 minute drive up a bumpy dirt road, but man the views are worth it! Very nice and clean house! The beds are very comfortable and can't beat the hot tub! Thank you Gary!
Such an amazing view! We are not used to the dirt road driving uphill- so that was a little hurdle we overcame.
Such a beautiful property and the owner was very responsive which we appreciated. It was such a treat to be able to go out on the deck and see the mountain view- just breathtaking. We traveled with 4 children ages 8-15 and 2 adults and one dog, and had plenty of space. Thanks so much for such a beautiful experience! So glad we chose Stargazer!
We had such a great time at Stargazer. The cabin was well equipped, clean, comfortable, and the views were amazing! We have been coming to Ashe county over 15 years and this is the best view from a cabin we have ever had. We were skeptic about the driveway after reading other reviews but we drove a low profile Camry and didnât have a problem. Thank you Gary for sharing your beautiful cabin for our 24th Anniversary. We made some wonderful memories!
This home is beautiful! The drive up to the house was something in itself. Me, my husband and 2 kids stayed for the week and we didn't want to leave. Very cozy and homey. The hot tub was a wonderful bonus for us all. If you're wanting to get away and relax in the mountains, this is the place to do it. Can't wait to book again!
I found it exactly as described if not better. The pictures you see donât really do this property justice. The road leading up to it is a little rough but paved at the start of their property and the view at the top is certainly worth it. Stargazer is the perfect name for this place because you feel like you can see every star in the sky. They even have a telescope in the closet but I didnât want to chance breaking it. I would definitely stay here again.
Stargazer had everything you needed for cooking in the kitchen it was perfect. The views were
Incredible and very relaxing. I think the cleaning process needs to be a bit more throughly done. We found a lot of long dog hair throughout the cabin. Other than that we loved our stay at Stargazer and will
Recommend to others. Thank you very
Much.
Very special retreat and quiet time. Exceeded our expectations in many ways. View, comfort, quality of appliances, linens, firm mattress etc etc. Perfect getaway for a Senior Couple to relax and refresh.
Drive up the hill to the house was difficult. Best for SUV or 4 wheel drive I think. Wife's Lexus just did not like it.
The location is simply peace-inspiring. It has been a long time since I heard such quiet. The road could be better marked as we didn't really see any addresses. The road is ok, gets rough near end before the final pavement. Dirt rough road. We had Nissan Murano 2WD and made it without issue. It may bother some. The owner was very communicative. It is a very cute place on top of the mountain with expansive views. But, the quiet!!!! Nothing but birds and squirrels. Def recommend if you want to unplug (although wifi is great and tv has streaming services)
Great Views, Poor Cleanliness, and Uncomfortable Stay
The communication with the host was excellent, and the views were stunning, but the cleanliness left much to be desired. White dog hair was embedded in the couches and covered dusty surfaces in the living room. The bed linens smelled and were covered in clumps of hair, so we ended up sleeping on blankets from our car. We were pulling hair from most of the food we cooked, including our thanksgiving meal. We have a black dog, we understand there will be hair, but this was just everywhere. It was disappointing to say the least, and really affected our ability to relax. While the hot tub worked great and the place has potential, it desperately needs a deep clean. We were ready to go on by the second day but stayed for the view. Additional -This is bound to happen being in an open area, but be mindful if you visit with your pup. We saw four random dogs in the yard throughout our 3 day stay.
The cabin is just as pictured. The views are amazing...even though it rained every day....the house had so much to offer from a wood burning fire place for s'mores, games like air hockey and foosball, there was plenty of space to play corn hole (we brought) in the basement as well as an expansive back deck with adirondack rocking chairs to admire the view (rain or shine) with a partial covered deck also over the hot tub off the main bedroom. There was a 65" tv in the living room with very comfy furniture, super comfy beds and a fort-like loft where my nephew slept like a king! The kitchen had all the tools necessary to make a gourmet dinner, you may want to bring tin foil, plastic wrap, napkins and paper towels....with an amazing view from the dinner table. the Stargazer was spectacular!
We used to live in the Smoky Mountains, so we don't expect any mountain location to be spotless - a stray stink bug will always appear when you are going in and out of a beautiful deck/sitting area like the one on this property. BUT
But there were way too many bugs & large black ants that had invaded the kitchen (we actually saw one come out of a power outlet on the kitchen counter!) and we actually thought about leaving early. The beds were not made, and the linens in one room reeked of BenGay. A menthol smell that was gag-worthy - in the sheets and towels. All of which we had to wash and rewash to get rid of. So doing laundry and cleaning the kitchen (someone left sugar and a bunch of other non-sealed items in the cabinets!) was not the way we wanted to start our relaxing long weekend.
Additionally, we had 3 folx who needed to do some work while there (laptops) and needed a writing space in which to do it. In the photos on the listing (when we booked 4 months out) there was a desk in the upstairs loft which would have been a perfect work space for one of us. This was removed when we got there, so after cleaning the (sticky!) table we had to work on top of each other at the kitchen table. All of the furniture looked to have been changed since those photos, which would have been a factor in our booking.
The house is lovely. And a gorgeous location. We listened to wild turkeys and songbirds, we enjoyed the deck when the sun was out & used the fireplace two nights too.
